This has potential to be a phenominal event if the proper build-up for it is put into action.

Plant is doing his part, so far.

They must be working hard to hype it up since the most boxing fans wanted to see Canelo vs Bivol or Beterbiev fights. Business as usual. At the end of the day it's for the last piece of the puzzle, so it has to do some big buzz.

Realistically Smith, BJS and Plant were/are just some belt holders.

Callum Smith was The RING champion, the winner of the WBSS and also the WBA Super World Super middle titleholder.

The Brit was also considered the top dog at 168lbs by ESPN and TBRB prior to the Canelo bout.

And I can literally quote dozens of your posts excitingly clamouring to see Canelo facing Smith.

It even got to the point you passionately defended the Brit whenever others claimed he was overrated.

Are you a stereotypical critic, whereby you passionately claim Canelo “hasn’t got the balls” to face a certain fighter possessing an allegedly “fearsome” reputation, but as soon as he beats them with consummate ease, you immediately forget about everything you previously wrote and instantly start undermining the Mexican’s feat?

For the record, I accurately predicted that Canelo would dominate Call Smith with consummate ease, but I still applaud the Mexican’s achievement.

So you admit to being a fickle fan, whereby you’re willing to ride the hype train (accusing other fighters of ducking the target of your adoration), but as soon as it hits a bump in the rail tracks, you immediately jump off and start claiming the boxer you previously celebrated was never that good in the first place? :OhYes:

Canelo defeated the man you demanded he face. Callum Smith was universally regarded as the very best 168lb-er on the planet when the Mexican fought him.

chill chump! it's just a forum. Smith won the WBSS by beating a washed up version of Groves then Ryder exposed Callum. It is what it is.

This is true and I personally thought it was a good test and the top 168 lber. Although for many people on here the excitement dropped after that John rider fight, and fair enough too.

Callum smith was probably overrated pre Ryder fight, and that checked him down a notch to a more appropriate place by fans.

Americans are painful on the topic though, heard Lenard E saying look at who he has fought almost mocking it. In my opinion billy joe is better than plant. And prime smith is at least as good as benevidez has proven himself to be.

When canelo smashes plant they will say he avoiding charlo, bo bo and benevidez. Even though non of them are doing shit at 168…

the version of Lucian Bute (that beat Sakio Bika in 2007) would beat all of these belt holders like Smith, Plant and BJS, period :box:

A full powered Canelo on tainted beef stops Plant. I'm rooting for Plant though, even though he'll have to win every single round to get a decision.

Guessing your a kiwi.... as an australian i too know the pain of trash fights either not existing or being PPV. But im putting all my eggs in the Dazn basket (i have kayo too but its trash and 5 times the price)... If the AJ fight and the canelo fight can be on Aus Dazn that would be a massive win.

Sure. I'm not 100% on how I will get to watch it. I had DAZN, or as we call it locally DuZN, and quit it due to the lack of content and all thr stupid pommy Kiss n Cuddle they tried putting on a bloody boxing channel. I mean, who the feck is Ronaldo anyway ? Ronald McDonald's dad?

Even if Caleb Plant won every single round, he will not be awarded a decision. Canelo is the House fighter. An African American star like Tank would stand a better shot of beating Canelo on points but absolutely 0 chance a White American like Plant gets a decision over a house fighter.

Caleb Plant will not get a decision and would need a KO to win.

Coppinger is boxing’s most inside insider. He’s a beast at getting the scoop. ESPN covering other network’s fights is also awesome to see.

Here's my prediction from the 20th May.
Enlightened-One wrote: 20 May 2021, 12:23 Am I alone in thinking that Caleb Plant is an inferior fighter than Billy Joe Saunders?

The American may slightly bigger than the Brit, but he’s also less experienced and possesses a significantly weaker resume.

Caleb Plant’s entire reputation is reliant on his victories over Caleb Truax and Jose Uzcategui. He’s got a Demetrius Andrade type professional resume, minus Boo Boo’s amateur credentials.

The American is probably going to employ the shoulder roll, keeping his left arm low to bait Canelo (by giving an opening), and then rolling the shoulder to set the Mexican up with a counter right hands whenever Alvarez throws shots the the head. That's what he'll initially try to do, anyway...

However, Canelo’s seen it all before and will easily negate that tactic.

He’ll just use footwork and feinting to prevent Caleb from planting his feet to the canvas, whilst hammering away heavy straights to the chest (in an Errol Spence-esque manner).

Canelo might even employ the same tactic he used against Callum Smith, by targeting heavy blows to Plant’s left bicep to negate his jab.

And if the American feels he has to abandon the shoulder roll, which I’ve seen him do on occasion (as per the Truax fight), then he’ll be wide open for uppercuts and hooks to the body.

I’ll probably be proven wrong about this, but I feel Canelo will have a much easier time against Plant than he did for the Saunders fight.

It’s just that I’ve watched a few Caleb Plant fights and he fails my proverbial eyeball test. For sure, I’m not suggesting he’s “rubbish”, but I don’t think he’s as good as others claim him to be.

Plant is only rated highly by the media, due to a process of elimination (i.e. other fighters retiring, competing in different weight classes, or suffering defeats) rather than merit.

Prediction time: if Plant is negative and tries to survive, he may make it to the latter rounds. But if he’s ambitious and tries to win the fight, then he might get stopped before the sixth. Either way, I’ll be shocked if he manages to win a single round on the scorecards, regardless his approach.
