Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
probably just automatic at 18 months considering it just hit that
and i mean, this sh!t was scheduled months ago and never even happened, fighting is the real activity and they aint done it for a long time

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
Always been 18 months and your out i think. Fair enough too, should never hit 18 months without a fight unless your retired...
Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
Fair move. I can understand sanctioning bodies showing leniency due to Covid-19, but 18 months is lenient enough. At the end of the day Joshua will have defended his belt twice during the lockdown (who isn't exactly known for being the most active himself), and who knows if Fury v Wilder is actually going to happen in October.
Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
To be fair when most of your fights are against mandatories and single-digit contenders, you are not going to fight as frequently as compared to those fighting journeymen and maybe the occasional fringe-contender.
Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
Didn't it used to be 12 pre-covid? Maybe it will go back to that when things are more consistent at a domestic level.gregregegg wrote: ↑23 Aug 2021, 16:26 Always been 18 months and your out i think. Fair enough too, should never hit 18 months without a fight unless your retired...
Either way, i'm surprised they haven't changed the rules to keep Fury and Wilder ahead of Joshua like they did last time he overtook them.

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
I've not checked all these genuine top-ten world-rated names, but I strongly suspect most of them have been removed from the BoxRec ratings due to inactivity:
• Andrew Tabiti
• Sergey Kovalev
• Jean Pascal
• Ryota Murata
• Keith Thurman
• Rey Vargas
• Zolani Tete
• Eleider Alvarez
• Julian Williams
• Shawn Porter
• Mikey Garcia
• Viktor Postol
• Tevin Farmer
• Gary Russell Jr.
• Jessie Magdaleno
• Khalid Yafai
• Artem Dalakian
• Sho Kimura
• Luis Concepcion
• Wilfredo Mendez
• Knockout CP Freshmart
And those that haven't been from BoxRec's ratings yet, will probably be removed within the next six months or so, if they don't have a fight lined-up imminently.
BoxRec might have to consider temporarily revising their algorithm though, because there are a lot fewer fight-cards nowadays, which means they’re unfairly penalising many fighters for circumstances beyond their control (due to limited opportunities to compete).
Anyway, an example of BoxRec's silly rules:
• Mikey Garcia has experienced 543 days’ worth of inactivity. And he doesn’t have a fight lined-up, but BoxRec still regard him as the seventh best welterweight on the planet.
• Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder have experienced 549 days’ worth of inactivity, with both men facing each other in 46 days’ time. But BoxRec have decided, in their infinite wisdom, to recently remove both heavyweights from their rankings, despite the fact they're fighting each other very soon, with the official announcement of the 9th October bout taking place 40 days ago.
I'd love for someone to explain BoxRec's logic to me for that situation.

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
its an 18 month cut off (547ish days). Fury and wilder have exceeded it, so are pulled of rankings. Mikey garcia has not yet, however this week will get pulled from boxrec rankings.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 09:00 I've not checked all these genuine top-ten world-rated names, but I strongly suspect most of them have been removed from the BoxRec ratings due to inactivity:

The logic is to keep it simple, 18 month cut of from actual fight is incredibly easy to enforce. If they took into acount fights being booked and upcoming then thats an absolute fornicate around. and booked fights can get moved and caneled ect, much easier to just make the rule from fight dates that happened. 18 months is arbitrary, but probably about right in my mind.

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
activity....as in fighting
wilder and fury were scheduled to fight before and didnt. that's not activity. get their asses in the ring, at which point they wont have fought for 20 months, and they'll be listed active again.

The data will be stored in a database, which can be maintained by a trivial SQL script.

It's amazing how the allegedly Enlightened-One simply doesn't understand the world.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 19:41gregregegg wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 16:18 BoxRec have the dates relating to each fighters most recent outing and also their next bout.

Re: Boxers heavyweight rankings
They do. But what if hypothetically fury vs wilder got moved from July, to October, to April, to July, and then to December 2022. And the top ranked heavy hadent fought in nearly 3 years…. This is possible with a “booked fight” system, easily avoided with a “fights that took place” system.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 19:41BoxRec have the dates relating to each fighters most recent outing and also their next bout.gregregegg wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 16:18its an 18 month cut off (547ish days). It should not be a big deal, very very rare for top tallent to be going 18 months without a fight. And, when it does happens it is t exactly catastrophic. There name is just removed from the rankings till they fight, a suitable punishment for such pathetic activity.
