Filip Hrgovic vs. Marko Radonjic - September 10, 2021

Press Release

Unbeaten heavyweights Filip Hrgović (12-0, 10 KOs) and Marko Radonjic (22-0, 22 KOs) clash in a ‘Battle of the Giants’ on September 10 at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria for the IBF International Heavyweight Title, live on RTL in Croatia and DAZN in over 170 countries and territories worldwide.

Hrgović, the 29-year-old from Zagreb, Croatia, is one of the most feared fighters in the heavyweight division. He returns to action following a sensational knockout win over American heavyweight Rydell Booker on November 7 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist has his sights set on a World title fight with IBF ruler Anthony Joshua but knows he must first overcome Radonjic as he makes the maiden defence of his IBF International crown.

Radonjic, who is known as the ‘Montenegro Hammer’, holds an incredible record of 22 knockout wins from 22 contests. The 31-year-old from Cetinje, Montenegro, will face his toughest test against Hrgović, a man many are tipping as a future world champion, but is confident of maintaining his perfect record and taking home the IBF International strap.

“This is going to be a great fight between two top heavyweights,” said Hrgović. “I have a lot of respect for Radonjic for taking this fight when many wouldn’t. I’m excited to box at the Wörthersee Stadium. I expect a lot of Croatians to travel to support me and I look forward to fighting in front of the Austrian fans too. Radonjic has a good record, he has won all his fights by knockout, but he has never fought anyone like me. On September 10, he will feel my power and the ‘Montenegro Hammer’ will fall!”

“Filip Hrgović is a great fighter and I’m really looking forward to fighting him,” says Radonjic. “It will be an exciting fight between two big punching heavyweights. I know Hrgović is a good boxer but I’m confident I can beat him. I will take the IBF International Title home with me. The ‘Montenegro Hammer’ is coming to win!”

The IBF International Heavyweight Title contest between Filip Hrgović and Marko Radonjic headlines an action-packed event at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria promoted by Wasserman Boxing and Matchroom Boxing in association with SEH Sports and Entertainment Holding.

Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman, said: “We’re delighted to bring the ‘Battle of the Giants’ to the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt. This is going to be a sensational night of heavyweight action. Filip Hrgović is the most avoided heavyweight on the planet. He is the man no one wants to fight and for good reason! In the opposite corner, we have the ‘Montenegro Hammer’, another unbeaten fighter with a perfect record of 22 fights and 22 knockouts. This is a real treat for boxing fans. Two top heavyweights with dynamite in their fists. This fight is not going the distance. Expect fireworks on September 10!”

Matchroom Sport Chairman, Eddie Hearn, said: “Filip Hrgović is one of the most avoided men in the Heavyweight division and finding an opponent with the courage to step in the ring with him has been a challenge. Virtually the whole of the IBF top 15 turned down the opportunity to face him in a Final Eliminator. It’s great to see the Croatian contender in action against the undefeated ‘Montenegro Hammer’ Marko Radonjic. Both men hold perfect records and I’m expecting an explosive Heavyweight fight in Austria on September 10.”

Zeljko Karajica for SEH Sports and Entertainment Holding, said: “Filip has been training hard these last months and can’t wait to enter the Wörthersee Stadium. There are a lot of Croatians living around Klagenfurt who will be there to support him and many more travelling from Croatia. The fans can look forward to another explosive performance from Filip as he shows why he is the most exciting fighter in the heavyweight division today.”

Hearn says he's the most avoided HW. Since that moniker used to belong to Dil, let Hrg fight Whyte FFS.

Whyte’s not going to fight a relatively unknown extremely good fighter when he could probably get more money for less risk against someone like Chris Arreola.

Given the position he’s in the risk wouldn’t be worth the reward. It’s also not like Whyte’s been fighting bums over the last few years so I’ll give him a pass for a softer one next up.

Never heard of Hrgovic’s opponent but should be fun while it lasts and it’s good that it’ll be on DAZN.

Weird that it’s in Austria though. Wasserman have made minimal splash so far since starting up.

My post was a point about Hrg, not Whyte. I want Hrg to have a meaningful fight already.

Marko Radonjic is the modern day equivalent of Mark De Mori.

His record is very similar to Christopher Lovejoy's.

What an utterly disgraceful fight!!! :brick:

100 percent joke fight. he'll blast him out in maxx 2rounds.

due to the ballan rivalry serbia/croatia i guess croatian national tv pays hrg enough to make it worthwile for him.

they will hype it up for the clueless part bout boxing former yugoslawian public.

the rado guy if you look at his record is obviously a regional hype job, only lovejoys 0- unbeaten record could be called worse.

relevancy for hrg's career is zip/zero/nema/nulla/nischta!!!

sure his family/ hometown hardcore fans will get excited.

fucckin shame. he gotta step it up. nothing but a filler but again i guess they pay him enough.

thought bout lovejoy comparison too, but his record is objectively worse, like THE WORST EVER.

Marko Radonjic is unbeaten fighter with 22 victories on his resume.

His opponents have engaged in a combined total of 430 bouts and have failed to win 311 of them (a 27% win-rate)!

The average Marko Radonjic opponent has a record of 5 wins and 14 losses.

The six fighters that Marko Radonjic defeated during 2019 had only won 19 of their 110 bouts!

And here are some of the notable names he defeated during that glorious year:

• Bojan Teletina – 0 wins; 2 losses
• Fadil Pasalic (twice) – 1 win; 23 losses
• Milan Antonic – 0 wins; 2 losses

13 of Marko Radonjic's 22 victories came against opponents that have only won 3 fights or less (and 5 of them had never even won a single fight)! Those 13 guys have a combined total of 10 wins and 85 losses! :o

That’s astonishingly bad!

WTF is going on! Radonjic is significantly worse than the opponent Hrgovic faced when he made his pro debut!

Finally....staybuzzy fight, befor the real one with Bakole for the mandatory.
I think Hrgovic has some spar season with Radonjic years ago.

Every single time Hrgovic faces a garbage opponent, people keep defending him by claiming it’s only a stay busy fight until he faces someone decent in his next outing, but then he ends up engaging in another mismatch…

And people keep giving him free passes!

It doesn’t matter whether Hrgovic is good or not, because his choice of opposition is making him irrelevant.

Based on Radonjic's Boxrec record, he looks like the kind of opponent Frank would've got in for Dubios.

Not even taking the piss, hrgovics first year as a pro is as good as the next 3 years combined. That is some of the worst prospect progression iv ever seen.

at some point you have to stop claiming your ducked and start investing in yourself to get big fights even if it means giving up most of your purse to secure an opponent.

Ortiz, Wallin, Bakoli, Hughie, Takem, Hammer, Zhang, Makhmudov, kuzman, kabayal, pulev, sanchez, parker ect. All these guys are not doing much, and would be by far hrgovics best opponent to date (by varying margins). Throw some offers at them...

Or just go down this IBF mandatory path i guess, but fornicate how many years is he going to waste. bare minimum fight babic while you fornicate around.

Hrgovic is still a relative novice.

I don't have a prob with this matchup.
It's just a bit of fun, a large unbeaten padded record offering a sideshow frisson.

Should be a Ko win for Flip around 3 or 4.

No need to get too upset after all Deontay was still fighting retired Lt heavies and getting his mates to take dives way into 20+ fights.

Let's not lose our heads just yet

people got after wilder for his prolonged abysmal can crushing and its fair to get after filly too, its not just 1 fight, its a ongoing downward trajectory. he started off fairly well, but then his opposition has gotten worse over time and he's stagnated for a couple years now. who they hell's even heard of radonjic or kartozia? these are as random as it gets

when he steps it up and delivers, he'll rightfully deserve more respect

If he had fought even half the calibre of opponents as JJ has, it would be ok.. he’s younger fair enough..

It’s not like he’s fighting 4 times a year.

hrgovic is a 29 year old who has been boxing for 16 years, fought at a high level for 11 years, won an Olympic medal 5 years ago, been pro for 4 years while being regarded as one of the top prospects and is being called for IBF eliminators... That guy Fighting a guy that noone has ever heard of, who has recently stepped up from beating florists to beating bin men. This fight is a disgrace. Only way radonjic makes rounds is if hrgovic wants rounds.

when Wilder was hrgovics exact age he won the WBC world championship. He was 32-0 and had far less time in the sport of boxing.
