Massive announcement expected from DAZN, Matchroom and Golden Boy

Massive announcement expected from DAZN, Matchroom and Golden Boy

Image

All three are currently bereft of any confirmed United States itinerary, something fans and media took note of in recent weeks.

Looking at DAZN’s forthcoming boxing shows for their subscribers, you could get forgiven for being a little worried at what you see.

Apart from a few US daytime broadcast Matchroom offerings from England, there’s little to write home about.

Fighters like Mikey Garcia and Gennadiy Golovkin. Plus, Devin Haney, Gilberto Ramirez, and Ryan Garcia are all yet to confirm anything for the coming months.

As World Boxing News Lead contributor Dan Rafael reported, only GGG has something lined up for the New Year against Ryota Murata.

Rafael reported last month: “It looks more and more unlikely based on people needing to be healthy for December.” And “nobody wanting to risk a cut or an injury,” the source told WBN.

He added that they “were discussed for a scenario in which the two titleholders would either defend their titles on the same card or fight on the same date from different locations on a split-site show.” And that both “would be streamed by DAZN, which would carry the unification fight as well.”

Therefore, as possible interim bouts got scrapped, the prospect of fans seeing Golovkin before the end of the year has disappeared.

It will be another year without a fight for Golovkin. The Kazakh puncher has now fought only four times in three years. At 39, that’s far from ideal.

DAZN BOXING SCHEDULE

Between them, Matchroom and Golden Boy possess a host of stars who are yet to appear on DAZN this year. Mainly due to the pandemic but also because of the Canelo Alvarez issue.

The pound for pound king held plans to fight Caleb Plant on DAZN for a short while until negotiations failed. Canelo then agreed to a Premier Boxing Champions request to fight Plant in the undisputed unification on one of their Pay Per View platforms.

An official announcement on this should happen sooner rather than later. And also regarding the DAZN scheduling list for future and current subscribers to consider.

SEPTEMBER

Lightweight stars Haney and Garcia are reportedly close to naming their next opponents without facing each other yet again. At the same time, 43-0 “Zurdo” Ramirez is keeping his fingers crossed for a clash with Dmitry Bivol.

Lots to arrange and release by all. And by September, the fans and media should know considerably more.

lots of different sources saying thats what's happening, the article makes no sense because it says ggg and murata are inactive because they are saving each other for their fight next year, but their fight has always been meant to happen this year, not after the year end as the article suggests. obviously the year end show in japan will be the target, those are their biggest events

this article reads like a bunch of different articles randomly smashed together, and is the announcement entirely speculation based on dazn, etc not having fights scheduled (so the author assumes something big must be coming?)? or is it actually legit that a big announcement is coming? its not clear...

seems like the author is just assuming that a massive announcement must be coming since a lot of dazn, mr, and gb fighters dont have fights scheduled

I’m kind of expecting a big announcement with AJ linked to DAZN in the UK because with Canelo fighting elsewhere, only two DAZN shows in the UK until November and not much else going on Matchroom wise, I really wonder where this is all heading.

Eddie loves an announcement announcement. Announces negotiations and talks possibly starting instead of when fights are actually made. Give us a PBC-style roster rather than speculative fodder for Michael Benson.

I quit DAZN this month because there were no announcements, let alone a massive one.
As for GGG, he is old and covered in rust. We care more about his health and happiness than who or if he is fighting. Does anyone want to see a very faded ATG MW take more head trauma?
Not me.

Yes completely agree about GGG, although I haven’t cancelled DAZN yet as it’s only £1.99, and the Lara Warrington fight is a good un

Absolutely amazed that people on here value £2 so much. So instead of having Dazn for a month you can have 2/3 of a coffee instead. I understand the anger towards PPVs, its justified particularly when it comes to Chisora and Whyte but £1.99 month, how cheap can you get.

Looking at a recent YouTube advert for Dazn I saw there was a small shot from the DLH vs Mayweather weigh in....so I'm guessing Golden boy archive?

Yeah it’s bizarre. Even if there’s not much going on at the moment, I’m keeping my subscription going as cancelling and signing up again later is more effort than it’s worth. It’s £2 ffs

I'll watch this Saturday's fight and then cancel, I thought there would be a show at least 3 or 4 times a month but not it seems

I feel better paying for this than one off PPV, eg Joshua Usyk and Fury Wilder III.

Sky are charging nearly 30 euros for Usyk Joshua. And the undercard is absolute shite so it's just one fight. Will be a stream for me.

Fury Wilder well that's if it happens I expect a similar price and Yarde Arthur 2 tied in.Fury fight will be 4am though. Most likely a stream too.

On the other hand the issue with Dazn so far is there is so little content that you are practically paying for 1 or 2 max cards a month.

If you went out on Saturday night you'd miss Dazns only card or content of note in September. And pubs etc won't have DAZN in unlike Sky.

So far it isn't anything allegedly didn't do before and it failed with even more cards and better coverage.
