Cassamayor-Corrales III Oct 7

Post by Autobarn »

Can't wait. Joel gave him the beating of his life in the 1st fight, and was a bit unlucky in the 2nd one. Come on Cass! JC needs a big fight to get up for and this could be it. One of the most underrated in the sport, he barely lost to Castillo & was robbed v Raiymkulov.

Yes, could be a good one - thought (on a more recent viewing) that Casamayor was unlucky in the rematch... Although when shown without knowing the result I thought Corrales sneeked it.

Having said that, I've seen most of Casamayor's last fights - and he looks a very faded fighter. I don't think the move up has helped him at all, and I just give the edge to Corrales in this one. Although who knows how he'll react to the clean KO defeat last time.

I Think Cassamayor has his number. Obviously 'Cheato' will try and use along jab again. But that could only keep the little master boxer of him for so long. I felt with the KD that Cassamayor just nicked it. Would love to see him get up for a big fight like this & win

the beating of his life?!? better check that tape AGAIN, homie!! :TU: :TU:

altho corrales was down twice, he had casamayor down as well, had won the previous round and HE had the momentum when squeamish FORMER doctor margaret goodman stopped the fight in unprecedented fashion due to "bleeding inside the mouth"...the only lucky one in that series was casamayor having the overreacting goodman working the fight that night!! :TU:

if casamayor does win this time it will be due to all the punishment he absorbed from castillo rather than joel, for that is the punishment that may have shortened his career!! in fact the punishment chico took from light-hitting mayweather was worse than anything casamayor laid on him!!

any doubts you may have regarding that will be easily remedied by re-viewing ALL 5 FIGHTS IN THEIR ENTIRETY!!

thanks for keeping it real, stu!! one of the few big name fighters who has suffered more recent deterioration than corrales is casamayor, though for less obvious reasons (corrales=punishment, casamayor=?)...

still, should be a good fight & could go either way!!

ok, but it was quite a severe beating he was getting, despite that he managed to hurt Joel. Most of the way it was one-sided and Chico's mouth was all messed up. I doubt very much that he would have won that fight - Corrales was lucky it didn't go on and from viewing both of their fights, asamayor has the greater capacity to inflict damage. I have seen all those fights all the way through, and yes going into the late rounds Corrales kept falling like flies vs Mayweather - imagine what he would've been like if he could continue vs Casamayor I, who was hitting him with wicked flush shots most of the way through! Would have been even worse. Those shots were really badly jarring him and I've never bought into it that he would've won that fight.

Casamayor has appeared to slow down, but then again he can look subpar when he's not fighting elite fighters. Certainly Castillo was grinding him down in those last 3 rounds. We'll see, and I can't wait: I believe once he's in against a top fighter - one he cannot stand, whose number he appears to have - he will put in a really good effort.

Wow these 2 have some CVS, I'd like to see Casa win because hes 1 of the sports underated. Many argue hes never lost a fight, I had him beating Castillo, the way he took Corrales in the first fight was explosive. Maybe he can pull it out again, winner to face Diaz/Pacman :D

Did anyone see the Raiymkulov fight, I missed that, how'd he look. I saw his last fight and I must say he didn't look in prime shape but who knows.

Props to Corrales:

Castillo Twice (would of been 3times)
Freitas
Casa Twice

yet hes at 7th on boxrec. :o

'Cheato' is a bit much, I love Casamayor but he is a very cunning fighter who uses a few tricks himself. I also had him winning that second fight, I had him beating Freitas and I also scored the Castillo match a draw, a lot of the stuff Joel can produce gets under-appreciated by the judges.

Win, lose or draw both men will produce a good fight.
glad you picked up on my double meaning/irony. whether diego deserved that 2nd fight or not, it had got to the point where casamayor had mastered him after the inevitable slow start. diego's gameplan - to throw jabs - was a deferment. casamayor, who might have nicked some of the early rounds - at some point Corrales may have got too much credit just cos he was boxing - did figure him out and made things very tense for corrales fans

i think that Casamayor might have nicked the 2nd fight, but that Joel lost (barely) to Castillo. However, if I got out of bed the other side, I might decide otherwise on both fights as they were relatively debatable

i'm not saying corrales WOULD have necessarily won the first casamayor fight, but he definitely COULD have & after regaining the momentum in the round right before the stoppage, most of the crowd (as well as viewers at home) felt like both they & he were being ripped off by having a clearly winnable fight stopped arbitrarily like that. the controversial dr goodman had many detractors in vegas & is no longer a fight doctor in nevada due to a wide range of issues, including what constitutes a legit stoppage! after seeing her rob many fighters at many different levels of their chances to continue in winnable fights---many fans (myself included) say GOOD RIDDANCE!!

i had casamayor beating freitas as well & one of my puerto rican friends said it is not surprising that an old school puerto rican like joe cortez would penalize a cuban a point WITH NO WARNING & call a controversial "knockdown" against him as well...he says there has traditionally been a lot of bad boxing blood between puerto ricans and cubans, going back to the days when cubans still competed as pros!!

cortez' controversial calls against joel made enuf difference in the scoring to alter the outcome in acelino's favor!!

if it was an era of 15 rounders cass would have only lost one fight, castillo, who beat up up late

as to goodman, it's debatable, she certainly let leavander johnson go on too long but then again so did his own dad

underrated fighter, hasn't really had the breaks that others have had, that's the only difference between him and lower 5 p4p fighters
