Whilst not necessarily appropriate for this thread title - Ali's rematch win over Leon Spinks always amazes me. I always single that out, with all things considered Ali's greatest win. Lets be honest - the man had parkinson's disease in the early stages YEARS before the Spinks rematch and he shouldn't have been heavyweight champion by the first Leon fight.... then he loses one of the "worse" split decisions' I have seen vs Spinks - Leon won that by miles - then to turn back everything and put on the display he did in the rematch, yes Leon had partied hard, but he was still a quality boxer and Olympic Champion. The manner of his win in the rematch - that Ali was as good as anything in his second reign (thriller in the manila aside) - to do that with all the obsticles he was facing was amazing.

I would add that I have true admiration for his display against Berbick with that "all things considered" caveat. To even be competitive against a geniune top 10 fighter given his health at that stage was amazing - and yes Ali was competitive and gave a decent account and there was no way Berbick was holding back.

It was close and boring for the first 7/8 rounds, but the last 2/3 were all berbick. It wasn't pretty.

Yes - it was a clear win for Berbick, but the very fact that Ali was holding his own for most of the fight and was competitive given his clear cut health issues was remarkable. Berbick was a geniune top ten fighter at the time.

The Holmes fight was sorry from the first second of round one and from round 8 onwards of that one - Holmes was in full on carrying mode.
