The start was close. Lewis dropped Tucker in the 3rd, since then he got confidence, although remained cautious. Lewis was outboxing Tucker for round after another. In the 8th a tactical affair turned to a slugfest, Tucker ended up wobbled. In the 9th Lewis knocked down Tucker early on, but slowed down afterwards, Tucker made a sorta comeback, that's why I had it 10-9. Lewis blew the ending a bit, but still managed to win the final round confidenty. Overall, clearly Lewis' fight.

Lewis comfortably outboxed Mavrovic. There's a sorta myth, that it was a hard fight for Lennox, but he looked bothered only in the 7th round, when he missed several shots and was backed up to the ropes. Apart from that, it was hard to find more Mavrovic's rounds, I gave him only one more. The main difficulty for Lewis was in Zeljko's chin. Marvrovic was taking numerous clean right crosses and uppercuts, his chin was simply granite.

Total: Holyfield 115-114
A quite bad fight, lackluster to that extent, that there was no clear winner. I don’t understand, why the Showtime commentators were so obsessed with Ruiz and argued with the decision, which was close anyway. Holyfield was way past prime since this fight, but Ruiz was just a sh!t and a sissy. Ruiz was jab-and-grabbing in his trademark fashion, he showed some real aggression only before the 3rd round, where he was smacked and wobbled. Ruiz was spoiling the fight, while Richard Steele was warning Holyfield for throwing away the clinching Ruiz. It was a one of the worst bouts of Steele actually. Holyfield wobbled Ruiz again in the 10th, after what he hurt Ruiz with a body shot and Ruiz went down to pretend like a sissy that he had been hit low, while Steele counted that exactly as a low blow. It wasn’t a low blow clearly on the replay. Ruiz also arguably was down in the 12th, where Holyfield was generally overwhelming him, but there was no replay to be sure for 100%. Ironically, the moronic Ruiz’ coach was blaming Steele after the fight, as if Steele had allowed Holyfield to fight dirty, while Holyfield didn’t do anything really bad through the fight.

At first the fight was going better than the previous bout, as Holyfield calculated Ruiz since the first meeting and Evander was gradually beating the clinching sissy up. However, the ending was awful. In the 10th Holyfield hit Ruiz at the beltline and then to the head, after what Ruiz was hurt and went down for a long period of time, while Joe Cortez made a horrible mistake of not just counting it as a low blow, but deducting Holyfield a point. After the sissy Ruiz spent 3 minutes crying and resting, he intentionally hit Holyfield very low, after what Holyfield, of course, continued to fight like a man, while Cortez didn’t penalize Ruiz back. In the 11th Ruiz managed to catch Holyfield and knock him down, after what he finished strong and pulled out a win.

A nice bout. Larry Holmes, who was undergoing a kinda second youth, was in a good mood that night. At the announcement, when Buffer said, that Holmes had 15 title defences, Larry immediately interfered the announcement, came close to Buffer and shouted in the microphone: "Twoney!". Holmes did some good rope-and-dope. In the 2nd round Larry won it standing in the Holyfield's corner. After the round Holmes made fun of Lou Duva and Mills Lane, when he was refusing to go from Evander's corner for a couple of seconds. Larry was able to steal some other rounds, but generally Holyfield was on his punching range outscoring Holmes with combinations. Later in the fight Holyfield prefered to work from the outside. A good effort from aging Holmes against the prime Holyfield, but Evander was clearly in control, scored more and landed the biggest shots.

Pedroza started slow, he was doing very little in the first 5 rounds. In the 5th he could have even been given a count, as he sat on the ropes after absorbing a shot and was pushed back to his feet off the ropes. After that round he started to get back into the fight. Lockridge's aggression became way less effective in the second half of the bout. The 14th was terrible for Rocky. It was a very close fight, some rounds were dodgy, especially 6th and 8th. Pedroza finished better for sure. I feel him edgeing overall.

Very close fight, but Pedroza was fortunate to have the WBA's house referee Stanley Christodolou working that fight. There are many referees who would have taken points from Pedroza for those repeated low-blows. Christodolou just repeated throughout 'keep them up', which was pointless. Still, great fight.

A quite close affair. The fight was stopped too early, no one had established a clear dominance yet, but Cobb had a bit better start with effective aggression.

It should have been 4 rounds instead of 10. Both were way past prime, especially Leon. In the early rounds it was a fun brawl of bouncers. Cobb was aggressive and imposed a straightforward fight. Yet both tired by the mid rounds, since then the bout turned to a dull affair, a brawl of the drunken bouncers. There was slow swinging with no power in it, there was pushing and hugging. Cobb tired more because of the early aggression, he could barely stand in the late rounds, that's why Spinks was looking better there. Overall, Cobb did more through the fight. It was fun to watch for 3 rounds, it was an ugly contest in general.

Re: Post Your Scorecards
I disagree with your take on their first fight somewhat. I have Ward edging the 3rd and the 8th, giving me a 114-113 to Ward scorecard. When I rewatched it, I had it the same again except I gave Kovalev the 12th, making it 114-113 Kovalev. Definitely way close to call a robbery, except for the 10th round, which was a very clear Kovalev round, yet all three judges scored it for Ward, which is a bit fishy.DrDuke wrote: ↑22 Aug 2021, 14:57 Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward

Highly disputable bout and a close one before the final round. Kovalev fought like in the 1st meeting. Ward made adjustments. Ward's jab was sharper than before, his right hand was more frequent and powerful, his body work was better, but it was foulish on some occasions indeed. Yes, a lot of shots were borderline, but the last one was clearly low. Even if to count it as legit, the stoppage still sucked, Kovalev should have at least been given a count.

Again, I think it's too close and could reasonably go either way. Kovalev won his rounds more clearly, but he only clearly won rounds 1, 2, 4, 6 and 10. I was rooting for Kovalev, but still gave Ward all of the close rounds on my first viewing.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Nov 2021, 16:41 kov won the first fight, these dudes scoring for ward are giving him every benefit of the doubt and then some

Total through 11 completed rounds: 107-101 Moorer (actual scores: 106-100 and 106-100 again, both for Moorer and a 104-103 for Botha)
Before I start ranting on what a ridiculous call that last one was I should say in fairness to a veteran judge that there was a fine line on many rounds between Botha's big, wild thumps and Moorer's more refined punching. I personally preferred his cleaner sharper blows to Botha's big slaps that Moorer picked off many of. The fight was decent for a heavyweight fight and I got to see some of Teddy Atlas' ranting between rounds. I do see why he always needed to do that with Moorer. Man, he was like a Joe Bugner-type. You needed to set a fire under his stool to get him going.

Moorer wasn't so much like that before he got Atlas as a trainer. Teddy has to be one of the most overrated trainers of all time and a certified nut job of the highest order to boot.scartissue wrote: ↑23 Feb 2022, 22:27 The fight was decent for a heavyweight fight and I got to see some of Teddy Atlas' ranting between rounds. A nice and underrated fight from the era and division, which nobody cared about back in the day. Two limited fighters put on an action-packed showdown. Kobozev was an aggressor and he was making this fight, but he was often opened for counters of Dominguez, who was fatter and slower, but wasn't afraid to fight back and had enough of timing abilities. Kobozev probably edged this a bit, but he suffered two knockdowns, which definitely cost him a fight. The first one was in a round, which Sergey won clearly. The second one was in a closer round, but it was quite arguable, as Dominguez didn't hit clean then, while Kobozev seemed to be out of balance. After both KDs Sergey didn't really look hurt. There were a lot of hot exchanges in this bout. The 11th round was pretty intense. The rematch could be nice too. It's tragic, that Kobozev ended up like that after the fight.

A big robbery. It was competetive, but the outcome was clear. It was just a hometown dec for Gomez. The fight started as a slugfest, but Rocky was edgeing and by the middle of the bout it became utterly one-sided. Gomez looked ready to go at some points. Somehow in the last third of the distance Gomez found the second wind, while Lockridge tired, but Wilfredo was simply too late.
Now that was a robbery unlike the great Eusebio Pedroza fight in which Pedroza won outright.
