Mama says Edwards will run

Mandatory challenger Jayson Mama (16-0, 9 KOs) has accused IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards (16-0, 4 KOs) of running from an old man in his title-winning performance. After stepping aside so Edwards could challenge Moruti Mthalane for the title in April, Mama challenges Edwards for the world title at London’s Copper Box Arena on September 11, live on BT Sport.

Mthalane had been unbeaten for more than 12 years, but Mama wasn’t impressed with Edwards’ performance. “Mthalane was old. Edwards was running all night. I hope he doesn’t run when he fights me but I think he will run from me.”

Mama, 24, believes he can take over from Manny Pacquiao who is considering retirement as the Philippines next big boxing star. He has prepared at the Sanman Gym close to his home under trainer Ronerex Dalut and strength and conditioning coach Ronerex Dalut.

Despite being critical of Edwards tactics against Mthalane, Mama admits: “Edwards is a great boxer but I have trained really hard to bring back the belt to the Philippines. “I will be a world champion on September 11,” he vowed.

Edwards style not for everyone, doesn't carry pop or really plant his feet but there's no doubt he's a quality operator, great feet, excellent defence and picks some lovely punches, can switch effortlessly as well, really took Mthalane to school and exposed his age

Mama's record is paper thin , isnt this a mandatory as well?

The lower weights don't have the depth. Once it goes below super bantamweight I don't have any real interest. If that makes me a casual so be it.

I presume it's an injury picked up in camp and they've left it at long as possible. Can see Saturday's show getting pulled - doubt it's done too many tickets.

Warren's always tend to get "Injured" when they don't sell many tickets. Pull out, we'll say its an injury type, save the pennies

That's what happens when you have shitty cards with mismatches all the way down, put a fork in this card, there's plenty crap cards already this weekend

I’ll probably watch the DAZN card this Saturday now - at least it’s got an intriguing main event.

Frank needs more depth on his shows as if he loses a main or co main he’s buggered.

Compared with week 1 on Fight Camp where they lost Benn but still had Xu/Wood, Billam Smith/McCarthy, Yildirim/Cullen which were all pretty much 50/50 and at a good level plus the Fowler fight.

He does himself and his network no favours.

I thought he trained in Portugal or Spain now? But maybe.

Although he’s a bit outspoken and full of himself I’ve sort of been warmed to Sunny, though I don’t buy this ‘undefeated Twitter champ’ stuff…. He’s been rinsed a few times and also grassed up accounts….. plus his unbridled support of Joshua doesn’t fit well with his anti PED stance…. Anyone with a bit of brain and knowledge knows Joshua is worst perpetrator. INB4 “he’s never failed a test!” LMFAO

He was meant to be in Portugal - but he was in Monday picture with all the fighters.

The show’s now completely cancelled. Hopefully it was BT that pulled the plug as it may help in Frank putting on deeper shows.

My money will be on Johnson or maybe even Sunny fighting on the pre Fury show on BT assuming they can’t get Yarde/Arthur finalised.

It’s got to be too late to go October 9 now with anything other than a prospects type show at York Hall or something? What a joke, Warren needs to sort this mess out quickly or just forget about doing your own lead in. Just piggy back off of Eddie’s show and flood the socials with adverts instead on Fight week.

They shouldn't bother with a lead in, most will watch the DAZN Liverpool card and put on BT Sport after.

Do lead ins actually drive PPV sales?

Yep - that’s what I think he’d do but he’s probably thinking he can pocket a few £ by tying it in with a PPV. Who knows.

Despite him going ape shit in the past for Matchroom having shows on the same night he justified having a show on October 9th in the U.K. a month or so back when they announced the Fowler/Smith show as he’d already said previously he was intending to match Yarde/Arthur on that date. That’s despite nothing being signed, no venue being announced and Yarde having another fight in the diary.

He should be going all out at the moment to try and demonstrate he’s not past it to the strong crop of Olympians but he’s doing more to make himself look second rate.

Warren's shows are that poor most of the time, no undercard fight is capable of saving the day, can't say I'm disappointed
