obviously sunny for the career, but life in general? if we are comparing it to dave allen, who apparently , like every boxer, has a property empire. not to mention is very popular and is a tough guy for sure, i think hes got a good argument

I consider a journeyman someone that basicaly turns up to lose on every televised card. Then mabey sneaks a win or 2 vs trash but there job/ income comes from being durable but losing. Also with no title ambition even minor titles.

That’s not Dave Allen to me. That was Allen vs whyte, yoka and Ortiz. But the rest of his career he has turned up to win even if he hasn’t exactly trained to win. Now he has come back supposedly to continue fighting to his levle rather than getting battered…, that’s the opposite of what journeymen do…

I have seen plenty of ‘spars’ where some white collar type fancies himself, so pops down to an actual boxing gym. They always get schooled, by people right up and down the weights.

So Sunny is a world champion and been quite impressive. But despite his Twitter ‘celebrity’ he will never make big money. Also he’s 8 stone and 5ft3. So won’t get the respect a big man gets; he would be beaten to a pulp by the average pub fighter and would have no chance against a big bouncer.

So would you prefer to be a Heavy who will never be world champion and is somewhat of a gatekeeper to the world class fighters?

Say a Chisora. Or maybe a Dave Allen is a better suggestion. Obviously Chis has at least boxed for the world title and has earned millions which Edwards never will, so maybe that’s an unfair comparison.

Dave Allen will surely earn more than Sunny, so would David Price, even Nathan Gorman.

And who wants to be a 5ft3 8 stone man? I would hate it. However Edwards can always say he’s a world champion, but what does that mean when if he walked into a pub and declared ‘I can whip any man in the house!’ He would be going home in an ambulance?

Sonny edwards is a non punching title holder who no one wants to watch. His fights are painful to watch and he’s got a shit personality. He just gets stuck on the bill so frank can say he’s got a world title fight and can likely pay him peanuts.

Nothing against being little. I’d much rather be a Frampton or Inouie than an Allen or chisora.

If the question is "Would you rather be Sunny Edwards or Dave Allen / Derek Chisora?" my answer is "None of them".

If the question is "Would you rather be IBF Flyweight champion or a gatekeeper heavyweight?", my answer is:

- definitely IBF Flyweight champion once I've retired;
- narrowly IBF Flyweight champion while my career is live (with the only thing making it "narrowly" rather than "definitely" being the very hard yards on food and nutrition to make the flyweight limit rather than popping the odd packet of Mr. Kipling, Danny Williams-style).

Yes but that’s in sparring not a fight outside. Also Sunny Edwards is a non puncher. I’m sure Fogerty couldn’t lay a glove on Naz in sparring but outside he would just grab him and smash him into the ground. That’s not to say Hamed couldn’t chin many larger men outside no problem….. but Naz was an exceptional puncher, very different to Sunny. Also Naz is a heavyweight these days lol

He is not a journeyman., he headlined the 02…. As the a side and won. Allen is an anomaly. He has played almost a high levle journeyman a few times (vs whyte, Ortiz, yoka.) but that’s it. Every other fight he was booked to win.

He's right though, Allen is a bit of an anomaly. Good enough chin and defence (when he uses it) to go deep against real world-level fighters and enough power to snatch the occasional win at that level (shot Browne). Yet at the same time his speed and offence is so mediocre he gets absolutely battered by a long-past it Price back at domestic level.

that's not what qualifies a journeyman tho. a journeyman is paid to lose (usually on short notice and away from home) and take his opponent a few rounds. giving him a few valuable lessons on the way. Price has never been matched to do that. he's started as the favourite in loads of fights. not to mention headlined a massive card. how many other "journeymen" headline cards? It's a ridiculous thing to call him.

what you mean is, his talent doesn't warrant his success and that he's simply domestic level. Which is all true. But that doesn't make him a journeyman in any way whatsoever.
