Zorrilla-Cano, Crews Dezurn-Cederroos Set For September 14 TrillerVerz Show, Now In Hollywood, Florida

Danielito Zorrilla and Pablo Cesar Cano are on the move though with their rescheduled fight still intact.

The junior welterweight crossroads bout is officially set to take place September 14 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, Promociones Miguel Cotto—Zorrilla’s co-promoter—informed BS.com. The bout will headline the next edition of TrillerVerz, accompanied by another repurposed fight as WBC/WBO super middleweight titlist Crews-Dezurn (7-1, 2 KOs) faces WBA/IBF titlist Elin Cederroos (8-0, 4 KOs) for the division’s undisputed championship.

The event will serve as a split-site doubleheader, with the boxing action from Florida—which airs live on Triller and Fite TV beginning 6:00 pm ET—transitioning to a Verzuz battle between hip hip icons Fat Joe and Ja Rule. Their music battle will air live from Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City immediately following the boxing portion of the evening.

The boxing card was originally due to take place on the same date at Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, but moved to Florida with another Triller event making the cross-country trek. Triller Fight Club presents a Pay-Per-View event this Saturday, originally to have taken place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the TrillerVerz card to follow three days later.

Both shows moved once the PPV card needed a new home to accommodate the makeshift main event once Evander Holyfield replaced Oscar De La Hoya (COVID) in a scheduled clash versus former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort. Holyfield’s place on the show was not approved by the California State Athletic Commission, resulting in both the September 11 and 14 shows relocating to Florida.

Puerto Rico’s Zorrilla (15-0, 11 KOs) was left standing at the altar for a previously scheduled fight with Cano that was canceled on the eve of their planned August 14 meet on DAZN from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Zorrilla participated in all fight week events, including his having made weight only to learn that Cano (33-7-1, 23 KOs) was unable to obtain the necessary paperwork to travel from Mexico to the United States.

Zorrilla last fought in March, claiming a technical decision win over Ruslan Madiyev in a foul-filled affair in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The unbeaten 27-year-old prospect from Toa Baja, P.R. was the victim of several rabbit punches, resulting in a point deduction against Madiyev in round five before the bout was stopped midway through round eight. Zorrilla left with a split decision win, though acknowledging it was far from his best effort.

Cano (33-7-1, 23 KOs) has been out since November 2019, training knockdowns with countryman Roberto Ortiz before scoring a second-round stoppage in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The feat came ten months after perhaps the biggest win of his career, a stunning first-round knockout of Jorge Linares in January 2019 at MSG’s Hulu Theater.

The September 14 show gets a boost with the championship addition, as Baltimore’s Crews-Dezurn and Sweden’s Cederroos are set to pick up where they left off three months.

An effort to crown the fourth current undisputed champion in women’s boxing was previously attempted this past June 19. Crews-Dezurn and Cederroos were set to collide in the chief support of a Triller Fight Club PPV topped by lineal/WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. (16-0, 12 KOs) in a mandatory title defense versus IBF number-one contender George Kambosos Jr. (19-0, 10 KOs). Lopez was forced to withdraw at the start of fight week after testing positive for Covid, resulting in the cancellation of the entire twelve-fight card.

Crews-Dezurn last fought in January, picking up an eight-round decision win in a stay-busy fight above the super middleweight limit. It was her first fight since having her titles returned to her following a controversial January 2020 clash with Alejandra Jimenez, whose split decision win was nullified after testing positive for the banned substance stanozolol.

Cederroos (8-0, 4 KOs) has not fought since unifying the WBA and IBF titles in a thrilling 10-round unanimous decision win over Alicia Napoleon last January in Atlantic City. The fight was scored 95-94 on all three cards, with a 2nd round knockdown providing the margin of victory for Sweden’s Cederroos who made her U.S. debut.

Other bouts revealed for the show include: Tijuana’s Roberto Ramirez (24-3-1, 17 KOs) versus Puebla’s Juan Antonio Rodriguez (32-8, 28 KOs) in a ten-round battle of Mexican lightweights; Toledo-bred veteran Sonny Fredrickson (21-4, 14 KOs) versus Miguel Angel Madueno Angulo (24-0, 22KOs) of Orange, California in a scheduled ten-round junior welterweight contest; and the anticipated pro debut of highly decorated U.S. amateur Charlie Sheehy, who will appear in a four-round junior welterweight bout versus a yet-to-be-named opponent.

Pablo Cesar Cano is aiming to stop rising prospect Danielito Zorrilla tonight

Pablo Cesar Cano is ready to prove he is more than just a steppingstone for a rising prospect.

Mexico’s Cano will take on Puerto Rico’s unbeaten upstart Danielito Zorrilla in a rescheduled 10-round junior welterweight matchup.

Both fighters made weight ahead of their TrillerVerz headliner which goes down tonight at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in Hollywood, Florida.

“Unfortunately our fight did not happen on its original date but that didn’t stop me from training or deter me from my desire to win,” Cano told The Ring though a translator. “I stayed in shape and I feel stronger than ever.”

Cano and Zorrilla were initially set to meet on August 14, in Frisco, Texas, on the undercard of the welterweight showdown featuring Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

However Cano (33-7-1, 23 KOs), who weighed 139.7 pounds, ended up stuck in his native Mexico due to travel visa issues, which left him and Zorrilla without dance partners.

Zorrilla (15-0, 11 KOs), who is co-promoted by Promociones Miguel Cotto and Golden Boy Promotions, tipped the scales at 139.8 pounds and fights for the first time following a technical decision win over Ruslan Madiyev in Puerto Rico, last March. The bout ended prematurely when the 27-year-old took repeated shots behind the head from his Kazakh counterpart, who was deducted two points for his actions but was also lucky not to be disqualified.

The 31-year-old Cano, who has fought 214 rounds to Zorrilla’s 56, fights for the first time since a second-round stoppage of Roberto Ortiz in November 2019. Prior to that bout, he scored a massive upset when he stopped former three-division titlist Jorge Linares in the first round in January 2019.

From the looks of it, it appears Zorrilla is looking at Cano as just another fighter to assist in his development. But the former 140-pound title challenger warned the younger warrior to not get too comfortable.

“He can think whatever he wants. In the ring, it’s going to be nothing close to [a steppingstone fight]. Zorrilla will find out what kind of fighter I am in the ring.”

Cano also showed respect for his rival.

“Zorrilla is honestly very well-prepared for this fight. He is young, hungry and he is coming to win,” Cano added. “He is going to show everyone that he is ready to take on this fight and that he [has what it takes] to win.”

That said, if Zorrilla leaves himself exposed for two long, Cano plans to add a plethora of Zs to Zorrilla’s name.

“I love to fight and I’m looking forward to this fight. I’ll be looking for the knockout from the first round. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m prepared to go 10 rounds.”

Zorrilla: I've Remained Ready To Fight Cano, Beating Better Opposition Will Only Make Me Better

Danielito Zorrilla is ready to pick up where he left off just one month ago.

The unbeaten junior welterweight arrived in South Florida over the weekend ahead of his rescheduled crossroads bout with Mexico’s Pablo Cesar Cano. The bout takes place Tuesday live on Triller and Fite TV from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, exactly one month to the day of their canceled fight.

“I’ve remained ready to fight and to win,” Zorilla told BS.com. “This is a fight I’ve wanted, it’s good for my development. I can only get better by facing more experienced opposition.

“To be the best, you have to beat the best. Beating better opposition will only make me better.”

The bout headlines a split-site TrillerVerz event. The boxing portion takes place in Florida, before shifting to Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City, where hip hop icons Fat Joe and Ja Rule square off in a Verzuz battle immediately following the Triller fight card.

Zorrilla (15-0, 11KOs) has not fought since a technical decision win over Ruslan Madiyev (13-2, 5KOs) this past March in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The rough, foul-filled affair ended midway through round eight after repeated punches left Zorrilla unable to continue and ultimately hospitalized shortly after receiving the technical decision win.

By his own admission, it was not the finest hour for Zorrilla, a 27-year-old rising prospect from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico who is co-promoted by Promociones Miguel Cotto and Golden Boy Promotions. With that came an eager pursuit of the upcoming challenge with Cano (33-7-1, 23KOs). The two were scheduled to meet August 14 on a DAZN show from Frisco, Texas, only for Cano to have to withdraw after not obtaining a travel visa in time.

Zorrilla went through the trouble of participating in all fight week events, including the pre-fight weigh-in where he was 139.8 pounds, just under the 140-pound junior welterweight limit though without a fight to show for it.

Zorrilla and his team are already on site and have been given every assurance that the issues which plagued their fight last month are since resolved. Cano received his necessary paperwork one week ago, thus allowing Tuesday’s announced main event to move forward.

“I’m ready to fight,” vows Zorrilla. “I am coming to fight and it will be my night.”

Nahir Albright Drops Michael Dutchover Four Times, Stops Him After 6 One-Sided Rounds

Nahir Albright capitalized on the most meaningful opportunity of his career Tuesday night in Hollywood, Florida.

Albright dropped favored Michael Dutchover once apiece in the first, second, third and sixth rounds before their junior welterweight fight, scheduled for 10 rounds, was stopped following the sixth round. Danny Zamora, Dutchover’s trainer, instructed referee Christopher Young to stop their bout because a battered, bloodied Dutchover had taken too much punishment.

The 25-year-old Albright (14-1, 7 KOs), a Philadelphia native, has won 14 straight fights since he lost his pro debut in September 2016. Albright also beat an opponent with a 15-1 record in a second straight bout.

Dutchover (15-2, 10 KOs), of Midland, Texas, was stopped for the second time in his past four fights.

Albright’s big win was part of the TrillerVerz II undercard at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Junior welterweights Pablo Cesar Cano and Danielito Zorrilla are set to square off in the main event.

By the time Albright and Dutchover reached the second half of their fight, it appeared a matter of when, not if, Albright would win by knockout or technical knockout.

Albright’s jab, followed by a right hand, stopped Dutchover in his tracks with just over 50 seconds to go in the sixth round. Approximately 15 seconds later, Albright wobbled Dutchover with a right hand and sent him to the canvas with a left hand when there were 29 seconds to go in the sixth round.

A courageous Dutchover got off the canvas for the fourth time in their bout and made it to the bell to end that sixth round.

Albright buckled Dutchover’s knees with yet another right hand 35 seconds into the fifth round. Already ahead by an almost insurmountable margin, Albright continued to pick apart Dutchover throughout the fifth round.

A bloodied Dutchover stayed on his feet for a second straight round, but he took a lot more punishment in that fifth round.

Albright rocked Dutchover with a right hand that landed with just under 40 seconds on the clock in the fourth round and opened a nasty gash around Dutchover’s left eye. Dutchover backed off, but an aggressive Albright hammered him with several right hands and a left hook before that fourth round ended.

Albright dropped Dutchover once apiece in each of the first three rounds. The third knockdown was the result of a counter right hand that connected with just a few seconds to go in the third round.

After flooding Dutchover late in the first round, Albright floored Dutchover again 17 seconds into the second round, this time with a left hook. Dutchover got up again and remained upright for the rest of the second round.

Albright dropped Dutchover with 36 seconds to go in the first round after landing a right hand that landed to the side of his head. A stunned Dutchover took his time in getting up, answered Young’s count at nine and took several additional right hands before the opening round concluded.

Danielito Zorrilla Stops Pablo Cesar Cano In 2nd Round Of TrillerVerz II Main Event

Danielito Zorrilla passed what was supposed to be his toughest test to date very impressively Tuesday night in Hollywood, Florida.

Following a competitive first round, the Puerto Rican prospect knocked out Mexican veteran Pablo Cesar Cano in the second round of their junior welterweight fight at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Zorrilla (16-0, 12 KOs) caught Cano with a left hook to the body and then a hard right hand to his head that made Cano take a knee 23 seconds into the second round.

Cano (33-8-1, 23 KOs, 1 NC) popped to his feet quickly after taking a knee, but he soon went down again. He couldn’t answer referee Frank Gentile’s count in time after he took a second knee.

“Listen, I’m not playing around,” Zorrilla said, according to his translator. “To me, it’s all about being a champ. So, whoever wants to step up, I’m here. I’m in this to win the championships.”

Their scheduled 10-rounder, the main event of TrillerVerz II, ended 35 seconds into the second round.

Cano, 31, lost inside the distance for the third time in his 15-year pro career. The 27-year-old Zorrilla, who is promoted by Miguel Cotto’s company, has won five of his past six bouts by knockout or technical knockout.

“Let this be clear to everyone,” Zorrilla said. “This is a statement. This victory is me saying out there, ‘We’re going for everything.’ I am going to be the next big champ and this demonstrates that I’m on the road for it, I’m gonna continue fighting strong for you.”

Zorrilla and Cano were supposed to fight August 14. Their fight was postponed for one month because Cano had visa issues that prohibited him from entering the United States.

Before the fight ended early in the second round, Zorrilla connected with a left uppercut with just over a minute remaining in the first round. Cano came back with a left hook that moved Zorrilla backward.
