I guess Top Rank and the PBC only submitted token gesture bids, because neither side really wanted to cover the bout.
This is going to Beterbiev’s sixth bout in five years, which means he’s very inactive!

Artur Beterbiev-Marcus Browne On ESPN+ December 17 From Bell Centre In Montreal
Artur Beterbiev will return to his adopted hometown following a five-year absence for his next fight.
Boxing Scene has learned that Beterbiev’s mandated light heavyweight title defense against American Marcus Browne will headline Top Rank’s December 17 card from Bell Centre in Montreal. Staten Island’s Browne is the mandatory challenger for Beterbiev’s WBC 175-pound championship.
ESPN+ will stream Beterbiev-Browne and numerous undercard fights from the home arena of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.
Eight of the Russian-born Beterbiev’s first 11 professional fights took place either in Montreal or Quebec City. The 2012 Olympian relocated to Montreal from Russia after signing with Group Yvon Michel, a prominent promoter in the province of Quebec.
After agreeing to a co-promotional agreement with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. early in 2019, Beterbiev has fought in Stockton, California, Philadelphia and Moscow. His previous two fights took place in Fresno, California, and Chicago.
Top Rank won a WBC purse bid September 28 to earn the right to promote the Beterbiev-Browne bout. The winning bid from Arum’s company was $1,105,000.
The only other offer was made by TGB Promotions, which bid $1,001,000 on behalf of Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions.
Ten percent of Top Rank’s winning bid, $110,500, will be withheld by the WBC in an escrow account and awarded to the winner of their 12-round title fight. According to the WBC’s rules, Beterbiev, as the defending champion, is entitled to 70 percent of the balance of the winning bid ($696,150).
Browne is guaranteed 30 percent of what’s left of Top Rank’s winning bid ($298,350).
The 36-year-old Beterbiev (16-0, 16 KOs), who also owns the IBF belt, stopped Germany’s Adam Deines in the 10th round of his most recent bout, an IBF-mandated match March 20 at Khodynka Ice Palace in Moscow. Defeating Deines (20-2-1, 11 KOs) satisfied Beterbiev’s mandatory obligation with the IBF because visa issues prohibited the IBF’s original mandatory challenger for Beterbiev’s title, China’s Meng Fanlong (16-0, 10 KOs), from traveling internationally to battle Beterbiev.
The 30-year-old Browne (24-1, 16 KOs) has mostly been inactive since former WBC light heavyweight champ Jean Pascal upset him by technical decision in August 2019 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The 2012 U.S. Olympian out-pointed journeyman Denis Grachev (20-14-1, 11 KOs) unanimously in a non-televised 10-rounder April 21 at Shrine Auditorium & Exposition Center in Los Angeles. Russia’s Grachev is 1-7 in his past eight fights.

I do love the Beterbiev's one-sided polls..
No one ever even has him winning by Decision..
It's always a straight up stoppage win.

Beterbiev can't draw flies. Great fighter, but he's no Kovalev. Only hope for the division to start getting eyes is if Jose Ramirez becomes the #1 guy. Canelo/Ramirez would make a ton of money.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2021, 04:58Both Beter and Gvoz made $1.5 million each in their unification bout.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Sep 2021, 04:48Those seem to be small purses.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Sep 2021, 15:29 Beterbiev’s purse will be $773,500. Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Marcus Browne | ESPN - December 17, 2021
By the time Beterbiev steps foot inside the ring, he pretty much would have only fought five times within the last five years. That’s very inactive!
And Artur Beterbiev's victory over the mentally scarred Oleksandr Gvozdyk, coupled with hitting the deck during the course of his win against the European level Callum Johnson, are the only highlights of the Russian's professional career to-date.
Beterbiev's latest performance against Adam Deines was very lacklustre (his words). And people often say a fighter is only as good as their most recent outing.
And whilst I appreciate the likes of The RING, ESPN & TBRB consider Browne a top-ten world-rated light heavyweight, I honestly don’t understand what he’s achieved to gain such a lofty status.
Browne’s only career highlight was his decision victory over Badou Jack, but one could easily argue that the main reason why the American defeated his Swedish opponent, was due to that horrific injury.
The only other serious test that Marcus Browne has faced, was his upset loss to the past-his-prime iteration of the veteran Jean Pascal, where the American was decked three times and suffered a bad cut.
Perhaps the only reason why Marcus Browne is rated so highly by The RING, ESPN & TBRB, is due to the 175lbs division being one of the weakest in the sport of boxing.
Anyway, Beterbiev will only be a few weeks away from his 37th birthday when he faces Browne.
Even though the Russian is probably on the decline and also appears to be off-form, he should be capable of stopping Browne sometime between rounds five and eight.
If it takes him longer, or heavens forbid, goes the distance, then Beterbiev might be shot.
On the bright side, a huge silver lining for Beterbiev delivering another lacklustre performance against Browne, will probably result in him landing the Canelo bout!

Press Release
WBC/IBF unified light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev moved to Montreal nearly a decade ago to embark on his professional journey following a pair of Olympic berths for his native Russia. Sixteen fights into his career, he will return to his adopted hometown for the first time as a world champion.
Beterbiev, boxing’s only world champion with a 100 percent knockout rate, will defend his world titles against WBC No. 1 contender and 2012 U.S. Olympian Marcus Browne on Friday Dec. 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
"It is with great pride that we are going to offer this wonderful Christmas gift to Quebecers! Artur Beterbiev is probably the best boxer in the history of Canadian boxing, and it is a privilege to have him with us in this defense of his two world titles," said Yvon Michel, GYM President.
Beterbiev-Browne will headline a loaded world title tripleheader streaming live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+. Undefeated light flyweight contender Kim Clavel will challenge for the WBC title, while former IBF junior middleweight world champion Marie-Eve Dicaire will attempt to regain her crown. Full details regarding the Clavel and Dicaire fights will be announced shortly.
“Artur Beterbiev has built a tremendous fanbase in Montreal, and we wanted to give him the opportunity to defend his titles in his adopted hometown,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Marcus Browne is a worthy mandatory challenger, a big southpaw with a high boxing IQ. But I believe Artur is the world’s premier light heavyweight and, as usual, will end the fight before the final bell.”
“I want to thank Bob Arum and Yvon Michel for bringing this event to Montreal. It’s been a dream of mine to defend my titles in front of the fans who have supported me my entire pro career,” Beterbiev said. “I look forward to defending my titles in dominant fashion.”
“This is the moment in my life that I’ve been waiting for and I’m ready to take advantage of it,” Browne said. “I know exactly what I have to do to take the titles from Beterbiev and that’s what I’m going to do.
“Beterbiev is the most avoided champion out there. He’s a great fighter, doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and is super strong. But I’m the better fighter and I’m here to show that come December 17. So, to my fans, know that I’m back and I’m here to stay. No controversial losses, no distractions, just straight work.”
Beterbiev (16-0, 16 KOs) last fought in Canada in December 2016, a first-round stoppage over Isidro Ranoni Prieto. He won the vacant IBF world title in his next fight, which he defended two times before unifying titles with a devastating 10th-round stoppage over longtime WBC king Oleksandr Gvozdyk. After a nearly 18-month absence, Beterbiev returned in March with a 10th-round TKO over Adam Deines in Moscow. Browne (24-1, 16 KOs), a 30-year-old native of Staten Island, New York, won an interim world title in January 2019 with a unanimous decision win over two-weight world champion Badou Jack. After dropping a technical decision to Jean Pascal in August 2019, Browne returned to his winning ways April 20 with a shutout decision over Denis Grachev.

he couldnt beat 37 year old pascal, but who knows what bert's got with his age and inactivity
although browne aint been too active himself
if bert takes it lightly could be a serious fight
Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Marcus Browne | ESPN - December 17, 2021
Beterbiev will bash Browne out. Both were inactive recently, but Browne has never been on Beter's level. There's no signs of decline in Beter's game, he has never had such fights, which take a lot from a boxer.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Marcus Browne tickets on Sale this Saturday for Dec.17th fight
As officially announced last week, a mega boxing night is set for Friday, December 17 at the Bell Center in Montreal. Three world championship fights and four world belts will be contested there as part of this gala presented by Top Rank and Groupe Yvon Michel.
As the main attraction, unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (16-0-0, 16 KOs) will face WBC # 1 contender Marcus Browne (24-1-0, 16 KOs). The IBF & WBC light heavyweight titles belonging to the proud Chechen will be at stake in this explosive fight. A Montrealer by adoption, Beterbiev is at the top of his game. In a fight against him, no one has so far been able to reach the limit. His mandatory New Jersey contender is a 30-year-old southpaw veteran who is known for his superior skills and intelligence in the ring. Beterbiev-Browne is a fight that will keep all spectators on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
In the super welterweight division, ex-IBF World Champion Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-1-0) will have the opportunity to regain her title against the powerful IBF # 5 rated Cynthia Lozano (9-0-0, 7 KOs) from Monterrey, Mexico. Dicaire will be in her 6th career world championship fight. She will try to become the 4th pugilist in Quebec to regain a world belt after Lou Brouillard in 1933, Arturo Gatti in 2004, and Jean Pascal in 2019.
“I am absolutely excited to participate in an event of this magnitude. Three world championships on the same map, it’s an incredible evening, never seen before! Following my loss to Clarissa Shields, I mentioned that I was going to use this experience as a springboard, to come back stronger. Now is my chance and I guarantee I will take it,” DiCaire said.
Quebec light flyweight Kim Clavel (14-0-0, 2 KOs), who very recently captured the WBC Silver title, will try to dethrone WBC champion Yesenia Gomez (18-5-3, 6 KOs). Gomez will defend her position for the 5th time since 2018. Clavel could become the 19th Quebec pugilist to conquer a world boxing title, from Jack Delaney in 1925 to the GYM’s Joachim Alcine in 2007.
“At last! After 15 years of boxing, my dream is coming true. I finally arrive at the most exciting moment of my athletic life: stepping into the ring for a world championship title. I know that facing Yesenia Gomez, who has been the longtime WBC light flyweight champion, is a tall order. I’m ready mentally and physically, I have what it takes to emerge victorious from this fight with the WBC light flyweight belt around my waist,” Clavel commented.
This mega boxing night will be organized by Top Rank and Groupe Yvon Michel, a presentation of Mise-O-Jeu.
For GYM, it will be the 50th, 51st and 52 world championship fights in its history, which began in 2004.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Saturday, October 23), starting at 10 a.m. ET on evenko.ca. Group reservations can also be made by contacting GYM at [email protected]
Full details of this unique event will be unveiled in the coming weeks. It will be broadcast live on ESPN + in the United States and distributed on pay-per-view in Canada, by Bell TV, Canal Indigo, Shaw TV and FITE.TV, as well as certain authorized commercial establishments.
