Gavin looks like he could be Englands most talented boxer, but Alexey Tishchenko now at 60kg will put and end to the young mans hopes!

Yes, I checked the sites country participation and there is no sign of Crees.ABA Boxing wrote:Wales only have one boxer, and he went out!
48 kg NASIR MOHAMED (WAL) ABIEV JEYBUN (AZE) PTS 17 : 21
But BN this week had him down as going.
I have since heard he had an appointment to keep before he was to leave
I hope it was not anything to do with that

Am I correct in thinking only 2 English boys remain?
Looks a dead cert that the funding is going to be lowered, and will this now mean the commonwealth champions could be eager to cash in now and go pro before their signing on fee gets any lower...the more losses the less zero`s get added
I know this wasn`t an Olympic qualifying event but it doesn`t look good that the biggest names achieved nothing and some even lost their first bout :(

SMITH won beating BIARNADSKI 28-16
Scotlands MHURA will face Irelands O' NEILL later today.
In England the Commonwealth games are made to sound better than what it is.
Before the European Championships i would have given David Price a chance at getting Super Heavyweight medal, he pulled out due to a back problems & Frankie Gavin was another chance of a medal. I wouldnt have expected any of the others to get past the last 16.
Gavin was never going to get past the next round with Alexey Tishchenko now at 60kg.
Smith is Englands only hope and still has top class boxers like Alexey Shaidoulin, but will atleast get a Bronze

Wow
a Russian in every final...Mr. Rumen Ovcharov is Russian too
They really are taking over
Was Englands performance seen as underachieving or pretty much what they expected?
This really does put the Commonwealth championships in perspective
Are the UK boxers that far behind our European cousins or just our style more proffesional than amateur??

They did as well as Germany and France and a former amateur great nation like Romania only got 1 medal.. Its just that especially the russians are much better amateurs, and I dont think the boxers turn pro so soon as the west europeans do.tonyevs wrote:Wowa Russian in every final...Mr. Rumen Ovcharov is Russian too

So is the gap widening betwen the two codes??Freiheit wrote:tonyevs wrote:quote]

But east European boxers are emerging more and more on the world proffesional scene, and most do it the hard way also

The east europeans do stay amateur longer and they are better suited for the amateurs BUT they have a great pool of boxers and they will dominate the pros soon too. It's only some ten years they have had pro boxing in those countries. Of the top russians, only a few have turned pro. I'd like to have seen Alexander Lebziak, Alexander Maletin and Gaidarbek Gaidarbekov as pros. And I'd love to see Tishenko in the pro ranks as well.

Aaron Thomas lost his first-round welterweight contest 23-17 to Fundo Mhura who boxed for Malawi at the Commonwealth Games.Wales wrote:Did Scotlands MHURA not fight at welter in the commonwealth games? Sure he knocked out Aaron Thomas on points in their first round fight, interesting to see him doing so well for a different country up at middle this time out.
Mhura was disappointing in the first two rounds as the Welshman took the lead. Mhura pulled it back in the third and fourth rounds, eight points against four to trail Thomas 12 points to 14.
Mhura dropped Thomas twice in the last round, scoring 13 points against five in that round to win the bout.
So it is the same Muhra, he was fighting for Malawi out of Scotland during the c-games. Interesting to see him doing so well at the higher weight.ABA Boxing wrote:Aaron Thomas lost his first-round welterweight contest 23-17 to Fundo Mhura who boxed for Malawi at the Commonwealth Games.Wales wrote:Did Scotlands MHURA not fight at welter in the commonwealth games? incidentally he never dropped Thomas in the final round. Thomas may have gone over due to tiredness and wild swinging / hugging but he was never dropped by a punch.
Thomas has now turned pro.
