Edgar Berlanga ?

Post by ValMar »

Bob Arum ; "I don't think anybody beats Canelo, maybe in two years or a year and a half Berlanga (could)."

I don't know anything about Berlanga ? Is he really good ?

Berlanga is being lined up and groomed to be the $100m opponent for Canelo in a few years time. Until then he will be carefully rigged and protected until the Canelo contract is signed.

So, you think Arum was wrong, and Berlonga will not be a top class fighter.

I think he will be an illusion of a top fighter. He's going to be protected until the Canelo fight. They won't take any risks with him. Hence he won't improve.

Yup I think he's gonna be pampered up for Canelo. Good business.

If this was the 1970's or 80's, Berlanga would have 15-20 bouts over the next 3 years, but, in this pampered pooch era of Boxing, he will Probably have 5 bouts over that time-span. :-?

and Canelo will be 33 years old in 2 years...however...if he keeps the training steady and fights regularly, nobody will beat Canelo in 2 years' time.

Berlanga has done nothing to suggest he would be a chance vs canelo for a long time.

If you gave me even money odds now for the fight in exactly 5 years time i would 100% bet on canelo.

Death, taxes and one-punch knockout artists getting unheralded hype.

As he gets older he may pick his fights a little more wisely. I’ve been critical of him picking some opponents at the right time, like Kovalev. But then you have to back up and respect his decision to fight GGG when he did. The man was still a monster in their first fight, and Canelo was not ready for it any sooner than that. And his run at 168 has been simply incredible.

Oh. And on Berlanga. Yeah he’s good. Big puncher. Not really been tested at all yet.

This boy is fun, the last match was still easy against an average/durable puncher but even if he destroys the decent Coceres (who still obliged Billy Joe to light it up), he has not proven a lot. Maybe Canelo, maybe, in two years.
