10, 12 or 15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout
The Boston Gob would get the better of the Bayone Bleeder by jabbing and landing long and short distance to either decision him or stopping him with a late round stoppage. What do you guys think and who do you got?
Heavyweights: Jack Sharkey vs. Chuck Wepner
Re: Heavyweights: Jack Sharkey vs. Chuck Wepner
Sharkey was a more skillful operator, he definitely could outbox Wepner and score a decision win. Of course, he also could open Wepner up at some point and win on cuts.

Re: Heavyweights: Jack Sharkey vs. Chuck Wepner
To say that Chuck Wepner was nothing more than just a big, tough club fighter is inaccurate. The man had a legitimate top 10 ranking in the greatest era of heavyweight boxing.
People identify him with being a club fighter strictly because of the Rocky movies, which was loosely based on the Ali-Wepner fight. He had some solid wins against Randy Neumann, Terry Hinke, Ernie Terrell (albeit controversially), Manuel Ramos, and Pedro Agosto.
That being said Jack Sharkey is one of the more underrated heavyweights of all time. His only problem was he was a bit of a flake therefore his performances were inconsistent, but he was damned good.
He sometimes gets written off because people buy into the myth that he took a dive against Primo Carnera, which is absolutely not true.
Sharky wins a rather comfortable decision, unless he wants to turn up the gas and chop Chuck up which is a possibility considering Sharkey went toe-to-toe with Dempsey and others and no disrespect to Chuck he didn't have the firepower or the skills to really keep a guy like Sharkey off him.
