It serves a purpose but if I like the idea of a fight so much that I’m willing to listen to it on the radio then I’m going to want to see it as well.

Yes, whenever it's on PPV and now that I have cancelled DAZN. Mike Costello on FiveLive will take some replacing though. I think they used Darren Fletcher for Warrington-Lara II and I don't think he's a big boxing fan. He seemed to commentate more on the atmosphere and other superfluous stuff rather than the action in the ring.

Yes I remember the boxing on radio 2.
Des Lynam with "our enery".
Then later on Ian Darke took over from Lynam.

Occasionally. Listened to Mike Costello do the Kevin Mitchell Vs Jorge Linares fight and he did a wonderful job calling a great fight. I sometimes listened back to Mike’s calls on the radio after watching the fight live. That’s how good he was. Hope the transition to TV goes well for him. Genuinely good guy.

Listened to BBC radio Five Live's coverage yesterday of AJ v Usyk and they did a great job

They could have done without the presenter (don't know her name, but she was shit), however, Ron McIntosh, Buncey and Carl Froch were all excellent IMO

Was on the road last night so 5Live for us. Two of us for Usyk, one Josh and one didn't give a fcuk.

Not bad at all for Brit commentators, giving Usyk his due props and not making excuses for Joshua.
Watched it today, and all were on the money.

I knew Big Ron was in fine fettle early doors before the announcements with "This is Anthony Joshua's manor" and "as Anthony Joshua takes up residence in the blue corner"

Does McIntosh get paid by the word? Why use a sentence when a chapter will do.
One annoying trait is his insistence on using their full names in every instance. "Anthony
Joshua lands a straight right but Oleksander Usyk replies with a well timed counter, which
rattles Anthony Joshua's cranium and brings a huge smile from Oleksandr Usyk"

And, they all kept quiet during the breaks between rounds so we could hear at least AJ's corner.

To be fair the times i have listened to fights on the radio the fact you just sit back,relax and let the commentary paint the scene makes for a great atmosphere,and is enjoyable imo,same with the footy

I always watch a fight though to be honest,unless that isnt an option

I'm guessing that had high listening figures despite being on at 2 or 3am.

I had Joshua v Usyk on the radio. I tried a dodgy stream on the computer but it kept buffering.

I thought the whole radio presentation was really good. I like Buncey. Froch was very honest. Poor Jeanette Qhuashie seemed a bit out of her depth though. Big Ron was good in that he told us when nothing was actually happening. Some commentators make it sound like a war when all the fighters are actually doing is sizing eachother up.

I listened to it on 5Live. I listened to all the build-up podcasts on the BBC featuring Buncey so was really happy to listen to him calling the fight. Froch was brilliant too on the night. Just didn't feel like paying 25 quid for it, I get the live feeling through the radio (sat having a few cans with the earphones in as kids had the main TV on) then I'll watch the visuals of the fight for free at a later date when it's available.

To be honest, there's so many great boxing podcasts that it's become my main way of ''çonsuming'' boxing content so perfectly happy to listen to the fights themselves that way too if it's PPV (I have BT Sport and DAZN so watch free shows on those channels)

I had a radio watch, remember listening to Herol Graham vs Kalambay before they showed it on the box. Sometimes they make it seem more exciting than it actually is, you're often waiting for that sudden sharp change in tone where the commentator goes potty.

Eamonn on the mic is a bit before my time but he was a huge boxing fan and squeezed in as many fighters as he could on This is your Life. I was at York Hall in April 1983 a few days after Charlie Magri had won the WBC flyweight title and Eamonn surprised Charlie with the big red book on the night. The days of radio were a bit special to me at boarding school in the 1970s. I remember the combination as Des Lynham and and Henry Cooper and all the big London shows were covered and covered neutrally. Today, they are just cheerleaders.

To be fair, McIntosh, Froch & Buncey all did a good job last Saturday.

A few other all time favourite broadcasts of mine on BBC radio were : Duke McKenzie v Rolano Bohol, Tommy Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2, Denis Andries v Jeff Harding 1 and Carl Froch v Jermain Taylor.
