Joe Calzaghe poll
Joe Calzaghe poll
Has Calzaghe lost some of the momentum gained beating Lacy in March?
With the farce with his July opponent with all sorts of names being chucked around followed by pulling out of the Johnson fight the day after it was agreed I think he's definitely lost some of the kudos he gained in March.

Who said he doesn't deserve credit? I really hope he beats someone good and soon. But I can see it being a marking time fight next, Warren has already said Calzaghe may have to wait until 2007 for this superfight he promised (which is actually Glen Johnson hardly a superfight!).Max Molyneux wrote:I'll watch when some start giving him alot of credit again when he beats someone good.

Since when? Super Middle hasn't done much for anyones legacy. Big names create legacy which Kessler isn't yet. He wants to impress the Americans.stujones wrote:If Joe doesn't fight the Beyer vs Kessler winner then it will do his all time great legacy status much more harm.
Its a more meaningful fight for Joe than ANYONE (except Hopkins) at Light Heavy.
Yes he's lost some of the momentum, another good win will get it all back though. Even a good win for Lacy, against Tarver will help Joe. The Lacy fight is getting talked down alot now because Joe made him look like a total bum. Had Joe allowed Jeff to make it more competetive, there would be none of this Lacy was shit talk, kind of a double edged sword. If Lacy can come back from that beating and beat another top 10 SM Joe should get praise.
C'mon Lacy KO Tarver!
& Joe beat Kessler!

What better way than to have cleaned out the division beyond dispute?Max Molyneux wrote:Since when? Super Middle hasn't done much for anyones legacy. Big names create legacy which Kessler isn't yet. Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter no doubt....BUT his claim to fame is winning a shut-out over Jeff Lacy.... all the hype that surrounded Lacy was pathetic... in reality Lacy brought absolutly nothing to the dance other than a win over a SHOT` Robin Reid and a fancy nickname..... Calzaghe never made tomato can opponents look that bad.. guys like Pudwill, Ashira, Salem, Jimenez, Starie, Ferraya, Reid etc all done far better against Calzaghe than Lacy did.... was it that Calzaghe was so good or that Lacy was so bad?...
He has no all time great status thus far. He needs some major major wins to get him there.stujones wrote:If Joe doesn't fight the Beyer vs Kessler winner then it will do his all time great legacy status much more harm.

think of how much momentum joe has lost throughout his ENTIRE CAREER due to injuries & other issues!!nickd wrote:Has Calzaghe lost some of the momentum gained beating Lacy in March?

If Beyer wins it would be a superfight between 2 long time champs, If Kessler wins he will have proved he is the other top fighter at 168 along with Calzaghe.Max Molyneux wrote:Since when? Either way this is the best possible fight for Calzaghe that will make him go down as 1 of the best ever at 168 or at least top 3.

Yeah, but Super Middle isn't seen as a high profile division either way.Ben Keilty wrote:If Beyer wins it would be a superfight between 2 long time champs, If Kessler wins he will have proved he is the other top fighter at 168 along with Calzaghe.Max Molyneux wrote:Since when? If he had all 4 belts then he'd be the best ever being the second to unify all four since Hopkins and the first ever in Supermiddle.
He has to be aiming to fight either the winner of Woods-Johnson or the winner of Kessler-Beyer. There is pretty much no one else out there for him to fight at this point except maybe Winky Wright, and that fight isn't massively appealing. I suspect a fight with Beyer might be easier to make than a fight with Kessler, but what are the chances of Beyer winning? Pretty slim, I'd say. I just get the feeling that promotional bullshit is going to get in the way of a Calzaghe-Kessler fight ever happening.

Think Joe has lost the desire to be honest...i mean come on what can be more carreer defining than to op the bill at Cardiff Mill stadium in a major fight against a BIG NAME....he just wernt up for it...all that crap from Warren about not being able to scure a decent opponent and money issue...If Joe wanted it then im sure Franky boy would have delivered...he has earnt his money off Joe now so i think Frank would quite happliy let him go for the big fights so Warren can put on all his up and comers on the under card....Remember at 1 point Joe coudlnt give tickets away in Wales...even his big big fight against Old Let Down Lacey was i Manchester...The were srceaming out for the tickets for this one...
He really has let everyone down by not staying focussed for the fight...could be another 5 months until we see Jo again..mind you did you see his bird at the last fight?!?!?!?!? No wonder he aint getting for them killer morning runs anymore...
Does seem srtange that Warren put bids in For Woods Johnson....Joe for the winner perhaps??????
