Since I started on that theme, it frequently happens that I'm in discussion with someone and it ends abruptly. No problem. I assume the reason they didn't answer was because they had no answer, I might even derive some small pleasure from having the last word.
We are all different though and I don't usually do that, I feel that's a bit of a cop out. I won't say "You were right, I was wrong, and I humbly beg your forgiveness" but I'll normally drop a short post that anyone of normal intelligence will recognize as an acknowledgement that their point has been taken, and the argument has been concluded to their satisfaction. I will also comment if i see someone has raised a good point whether it contradicts my opinion or not.
I see it as a common courtesy to which the courteous response is either a friendly acknowledgement or to accept the victory with silent good grace. A desire to pursue an opponent who's on the ropes to a conclusion by count out is an admirable trait in a fighter. In a fellow poster on a discussion forum ... not so much
