Who else does Usyk need to defeat for Glory?

Post by halfamill »

He dominated cruiserweight and he beat the second best guy at heavyweight. He's already locked as a hall of famer and possible #1 pound for pound. He'll be 35 by his next fight so he doesn't have many years left. Who does he need to fight to raise his all time rating? Fury, Wilder, and Joshua 2x each? Or are there other fighters?

He is a legend already, but if he beats the winner of Fury/Wilder, he'll be one of the greatest ever.

He's already guaranteed induction to HoF in my eyes. If he wins Fury, then he'll overcome Holyfield.

If either of the obvious big names will fight him, he should totally go for 'em; if not, I'd enjoy seeing him stay busy, defend against Top 10 guys, and just show that he can handle being heavyweight champion for a while. He cleared out cruiserweight not just thoroughly but quite quickly as well.

If he beats Fury, he becomes the second post-1983 era fighter to be undisputed in 2 divisions, along with Holyfield. I'd say it's pretty important that he pursue that fight.

And he would of done it by clearing out the other top 2 for both weights himself. That’s incredible.

I seriously think he was a greater CW than Holyfield. The guys he beat are still ruling the CW division! His resume has insane depth. By the way, how fornicating good is Briedis if he is still Usyk's toughest fight.

He already has an exponentially greater legacy than Lomachenko.

The way I see it Usyk's next 10 fights assuming that there are no major changes in the Hw division (there always are) should be against:

1. Joshua
2. Ruiz
3. Whyte
4. Breidis
5. Wilder (victory or loss vs fury doesn't matter)
6. Ortiz
7. Eje Ajagba
8. Filip Hrgovic
9. Victor Ramirez
And 10. Tony Yoka

There is a misconception floating around that a certain Tyson Fury is the heavyweight champion and a force to be reckoned with at HW. This is like previously stated a misconception. Tyson Fury is the "Freakweight" champion of the world and he can engage in fights vs fellow giants or small foolishly brave guys but he doesn't have any claim to any heavyweight championship. Oleksander Usyk certainly can't beat him and he certainly shouldn't attempt to do so either.

I would love to see Uysk in with Parker. I know he would win, but still think it is worth watching for the action.

Next ten fights? He'll probably have 2 maybe 3 more and then call it quits.

I hope not Oogs, he is a joy to watch. Sweet science with bursts of aggression. You don't often see that combination in heavies

at this stage another 10 fights would take him 6-7 years at least

3 more seems about right, usyk has always been a quality over quantity guy, not much fluff in his career

Did he surpass Michael Spinks?

Spinks won against Larry Holmes twice.

Winning against Holmes > winning against AJ.

Granted Spinks didn't dominate Holmes like Usyk dominated AJ, and second fight was also very close, but still its hard to compare Holmes and AJ as well.

If Usyk wins the AJ rematch I would probably put him above due to being undefeated, though Usyk would get knocked out by Prime Tyson as well.

Usyk already has glory to me. By far the best cruiser weight run of all time. not even close. moving up and winning 3 heavyweight belts with ease.

I think usyk without injury could get something like this done... AJ, Joyce, Parker, Wilder, whyte, Ruiz, DDD, hrgovic, yoka, Jalolov and that would have him near goat status.. basicaly clean up 2 generations (except fury)... would need to fight 3 times a year but so its not really realistic, but just 4 or 5 of those anyway is epic.

I would like him to fight Fury, but dont really think its smart because think its a shocker style match up and fury could just hug and lean and make it terrible. If usyk takes that fight he is a monster.

Fury is big and has crazy intangibles against anyone, but people are forgetting he struggled against Cunningham and got dropped hard by him. I'm seriously starting to think Usyk will be a stylistic nightmare for Fury. His athleticism and movement will be hard for Fury to keep down. Fury has power, but it's not one-punch like Joshua and Wilder. Fury can bully and use his weight, unlike Joshua, but I don't think he's fast enough to grab Usyk.

I get so sick and tired of people bringing up Steve Cunningham  that fight happened so long ago, and even at that Fury got off the canvas and absolutely battered the much smaller man all over the ring. Usyk doesn't even hit as hard as Cunningham did.

id say they have pretty much similar power, as in not too much, usyk defo sturdier though, cunn's been down like a zillon times in his career, both plenty at cruiser and hw, and shaken many other times

usyk defo better than cunn, more fluid of a boxer and tougher. has more 'special effects'. though fury has improved significantly since he fought cunningham so people shouldnt obsess about that fight

Well there's a very relevant lesson to draw from that Cunningham fight -- but it is not that Fury struggled. It's that he showed that he knows when and how to turn to his size advantage to overcome a talented but smaller guy. When he wasn't using his huge reach advantage on Usyk from distance he'd be using his huge weight advantage on him inside.

The Steve Cunningham argument only works if Tyson Fury never improved--- and of course he has grown in leaps and bounds since then. I think it goes without saying that had Tyson Fury fight Vladimir Klitschko the way he did Deontay Wilder in the rematch he would have tore him apart too.

Usyk and Fury are similar stylistically but all the more so intellectually--- I have said it many times before that Tyson Fury looks lackluster on purpose from time to time (ie, Pianeta) as a kind of Jedi mind trick to lure people into a false sense of security, kind of like how the Ukrainian suckered many of us into believing that the Chisora fight was as good as it gets for him.

Both men are also unpredictable, but Fury is more unpredictable than the Ukrainian. That being said--- there is a world of difference between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. One was a pretender to the crown and the other is the real heavyweight champion of the world.

No matter how many Toys R Us belts Joshua held the truth of the matter was he never really was the guy. He just looked the part and had a very willing media to boost his image. Many people have said he was the second best heavyweight in the world but I personally never held that view of Joshua.

Not to say that Joshua is a nothing burger, he is very good, but he's basically Frank Bruno 2.0 and that kind of guy can be out fought and out boxed. I think everybody agreed prior to this fight that if the Ukrainian was ever going to win the title his best shot was against Joshua because of his flaws.

I wouldn't quite overhype the victory just yet. Joshua stood like a deer in the headlights not really throwing much and yet he still cut the Ukrainian up. Maybe the next time Joshua lets his hands go and Usyk gets dropped once or twice. Who knows.

Against Fury the size differentials would be all the more apparent as Fury fights on his toes elevating his height to roughly 7'0" and even if the Ukrainian bypasses the non-stop jab of Tyson Fury the much larger man is smart enough to tie him up and lean his weight on him. And there is nothing really to fear when it comes to punching power since Tyson Fury has demonstrated he can take the best Sunday punch from Wilder and get up and fight back harder.

Many people don't want to believe it but Tyson Fury is athletic and has great foot and hand speed as well as great head movement. They just don't give him that credit because he looks awkward on film because he is so big. It doesn't look as fluid or as pretty as Usyk but he basically has the kind of speed and mobility that the former cruiserweight champion has.

Don't get me wrong, I like Usyk. I love the fact that he thanked Jesus Christ Almighty God for the win, and he's humble and gives 100%. But I'm not sure he makes for a competitive fight with Tyson Fury. He can beat all the other heavyweights in the world maybe because they are either too one-dimensional or they lack discipline or they simply don't have the overall capability, but Fury would be problematic.

Even the biggest Tyson Fury hater has to admit that it would be no walk in the park for the Ukrainian to try to be undisputed champion.

the victory deserves big hype bruh, you yourself kept going on and on about how usyk wouldnt do it and basically pooping on uzzy and saying he wasnt even a serious contender. now the reaction is basically to just start going an and on about fury beating aj and usyk. basically all you've said b4 and after the fight is to discredit both usyk and aj as part of your inflexible , man loving defense of your boi fury.

clearly fury is still most ppls fave to win, not sure where the walk in the park for usyk sstuff is coming from, hardly anyone if anyone at all is saying that.

I admit the Ukrainian fooled me. I mean who the hell else but Tyson Fury has ever purposely looked like crap in matches in order to make his opponent believe he's a non-threat? I honestly did not know it was in his character. Had I had a clue that was in his repertoire I might've leaned towards Usyk.
