It would be astonishing if he gets close to that level
Right. Marvis was a decent Amateur who got to the semis of the US Olympic trials and I think won a National golden gloves title.
He lost only to Holmes and Tyson and beat Ribalta, Tillis, Bonecrusher, Bugner, Benton, James Broad in their primes.

A really decent career. Hatton will get kod by a non punching journey man.

Also Marvis was a likeable guy, Campbell seems arrogant plus he still says he won that fight! LOL

Scary stuff. Using the fact it was only his 4th fight as a potential excuse. Martinez was in his 7th. There’s no way anyone who watched that could seriously believe he won that fight. Except him and McDonnell it seems...

Going by Campbells post fight interview he’s on the same narcissistic path.

Regardless of who he is he would not have been paid more than a few grand - his opponent about £1500 to 2k

I watched fight and other than the first round he lost the other 5 - I would say he got schooled by the journeyman

It was an absolute disgrace giving him that W

Too much about "marketability" over talent and ability. The fans even the casuals aren't that easily mugged. Get him on undercards of small hall shows at best.
too many novelty acts in my opinion. And we wonder why boxing is dying in the UK. Of course its all about the coin but you can't keep serving up sub-standard products and expect people to pay top dollar. I just feel as though Eddie is heading for a reality check sooner rather than later. Joshua's stock has dropped dramatically and both Benn and Hatton Jr do not look like stars of tomorrow able to prop up a ppv event.

There must be a limit to what you can be paid for a 6 round fight I’d imagine. 50k seems high, that’s proper title money.

Martinez a hefty 2-4 actually looked decent. But I think Hattons dismal performance enhanced that.
But being so high on the bill… do you think 10k? Or as much as 20k?
nowhere near.

Not at the moment mick .Foriegn fighters are having a field day knowing theres a shortage of opps we have been paying more than that for four rounders on none tv shows for foriegn lads. Some english lads have been getting that for four rounders at the moment.
Thats good money, fair play Jon. Good to see the less celebrated hard-working pros earning half decent money

Ricky is so deluded, he probably looks at Tyszu/Benn and Eubank Jnrs and thinks Campbell can be as good as them.

Hate knocking a youngster, but he is completely devoid of any talent other than guts.

Hes getting smashed around already and hes barely at entry level - I fear this may end badly.

Yeah unfortunately I fear that is right. Which is going to be really hard on the young man.

Best way forward is, if he wants to be a boxer, is they get him off the TV and he serves a proper apprenticeship. And that's only if he really, really, really has to do this, because frankly I wouldn't bother if I was him. I don't see a decent amateur let alone someone who is going to achieve anything as a pro.
:salut:
He isn't TV worthy just yet. He also won't win Brit fans by sliding onto PPVs just because of his name.
He could make a career for himself a bit like Eubank Jr, who has had a good work ethic and desire, despite having much in the way of what could be described as natural talent.
Thing is, Campbell gassed yesterday, so is he training hard enough?
Gassing too soon can also mean being over trained. important point to remember.

:TU: true. Although the experience of the team around him would make that a little less possible perhaps?

Everyone who follows amateurs in the north of England. Same with Khan.
I don't think he achieved the national recognition until he was 14
he won the nabc class a finals,

Not sure if someone’s already commented but I imagine the hefty signing fee offsets the relatively low early purses ?

I saw “Richard Hatton” win the NABC’s in 1994 at Leicester

We went down to watch James Rooney from Hartlepool Catholic Club fight

They both won but Hatton was the only one to win by stoppage that night across all of the weight classes

I thought Danny James beat Rooney. But, yes, Hatton was brilliant.

Saw the fight live and didn’t score it.
Just watched it back and I give Martinez 4 clear rounds and Campbell 2 close rounds that could have gone the other way.
Could easily have been 6-0 Martinez.
McDonnell is an embarrassment.

saw a headline yesterday where Ricky H is defending his kid against " the keyboard crew " insinuating that people who have questioned this result dont know anything about boxing .
If they really think that he won then given all the controversy they should run it back with 3 judges and show some feckin respect .
