Press Release

Italian star Daniele Scardina continues his hunt for a World Title fight when he takes on Juergen Doberstein for the WBO Intercontinental Super-Middleweight Title at the top of an action-packed night of boxing at the Allianz Cloud in Milan on Friday October 1, with all of the action shown live on DAZN.

Scardina (19-0, 15 KOs) produced a dominant performance to extend his unbeaten record at the expense of Cesar Nunez last time out in February, stopping the Spaniard in eight rounds to claim the vacant EBU European Union Super-Middleweight Title.

‘King Toretto’, who trains out of the 5th Street Gym in Miami, currently sits at No. 11 in the world with the IBF, No.13 with the WBO and No.15 with the WBA, and the 29-year-old can take a step closer to his dream of a World Title opportunity in the 168lbs division by defeating Doberstein (26-4-1, 7 KOs).

In the chief support bout, former EBU European Lightweight Champion Francesco Patera (23-3, 8 KOs) looks to extend his six-fight winning streak against Italian veteran Devis ‘Boom Boom’ Boschiero (48-6-2, 22 KOs) as they battle for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Title.

‘The Good Boy’ Nicholas Esponsito (14-0, 5 KOs) puts his Italian Welterweight Title on the line for the first time against Emanuele Cavallucci (12-4-1, 4 KOs), former Team GB standout Sandy Ryan (1-0) looks to build on her debut win at Fight Camp last month, undefeated Super-Welterweight talent Samuel Nmomah (15-0, 4 KOs) steps up against Ireland’s Craig ‘The Iron’ O’Brien (12-2, 1 KO), ‘The Albanian Bear’ Reshat Mati (10-0, 7 KOs) sees action for the second time this year and undefeated Super-Bantamweight Vincenzo La Femina (9-0, 4 KOs) looks to go 10-0.

“Italian boxing’s flag-bearer Daniele Scardina headlines an action-packed card in Milan as we continue to deliver on our long-term commitment with DAZN to grow boxing globally,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Scardina vs. Doberstein quickly follows on from our European Title double-header in Barcelona on September 11 and is another great addition to our busy upcoming schedule as we cement our position as the No.1 promotional company in world boxing.”

“We are very happy to finally have fans back at the Allianz Cloud in Milan,” said Christian Cherchi of OPI Since 82. “This is a stacked card featuring three title fights with Italy’s rising star Daniele Scardina topping the bill as he goes for the WBO Intercontinental Title against Juergen Doberstein. Francesco Patera against Devis Boschiero is a great fight for the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Title and Nicholas Esposito vs. Emanuele Cavallucci is a great battle for the Italian Welterweight crown. Samuel Nmomah steps-up against Irishman Craig O’Brien plus there’s action for prospects Vincenzo La Femina, Reshat Mati and Sandy Ryan. Don’t miss it live and on-demand on DAZN!”

Francesco Patera will face Devis Boschiero for the Interim WBA Lightweight World Title on the same night that Gamal Yafai challenges Luca Rigoldi for the EBU European Super-Bantamweight Title at the AGSM Forum in Verona, Italy on Friday March 27, live on DAZN.

Patera (23-3, 8 KOs) has been in red-hot form since he claimed the Vacant EBU European Lightweight crown against Lewis Ritson on away soil at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle back in October 2018.

The 26-year-old has made three successful defences of his title since, outpointing Marvin Petit in Belgium before stopping Paul Hyland Jnr in six rounds at The Allianz Cloud in Milan and most recently earning a unanimous decision against Domenico Valentino in October.

Gamal Yafai has almost become the forgotten man in the British Super Bantamweight division. Been over 2 years since he had a meaningful fight (which he lost to Gav McDonnell) but he should win seeing as Rigoldi drew his last tuneup fight against an opponent with a 4-12 record!

Francesco Patera Positive For COVID-19, Boschiero To Face New Foe

EBU lightweight Francesco Patera (23-3) has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of the defense against Devis Boschiero (48-6-2) - a fight that was booked as the headliner of the OPI since 82 / Matchroom Italy show in Milano, Italy, on Thursday December 17. DAZN will be streaming the card,

Boschiero is still to fight on the show and will now take on Samuel Gonzales (22-7).

Headlining the show is now EBU super bantamweight champion Luca Rigoldi (22-1-2) defending the title against British challenger Gamal Yafai (17-1).

Interviewed by DAZN journalist Marco Russo, the fighters spoke about their fights.

Boschiero: “I feel very good because I did a very long training. I want to wish the best to Francesco Patera who tested positive to Covid-19. I hope to fight him next year. Changing opponent at the last minute is not a problem for me because I have had a long career as a professional and I am used to any situation. A well trained boxer can face anybody even on short notice. I am sorry that the WBC Silver belt won’t be on the line as I want badly to win that championship”.

Gonzalez: “We are both pros with great international experience and both warriors. I saw Devis Boschiero’s fights and he always comes forward like I do. That’s the guarantee that it will be an entertaining fight. Who’s smarter in the ring will prevail”.

Rigoldi: ”I am very motivated and well trained. I improved after winning and defending the European belt. Like all the challengers to the Euro title, Gamal Yafai is a top boxer. I am ready for the worse and therefore in the ring can only be much better. To put up a great show, you need two fighters who want to fight. Gamal Yafai is confident to win and so am I”.

Yafai: “I have been waiting this fight for too long and can’t wait to enter the ring Luca Rigoldi is a good opponent, I will do my best against him.”
