Press Release

Italian star Daniele Scardina continues his hunt for a World Title fight when he takes on Juergen Doberstein for the WBO Intercontinental Super-Middleweight Title at the top of an action-packed night of boxing at the Allianz Cloud in Milan on Friday October 1, with all of the action shown live on DAZN.

Scardina (19-0, 15 KOs) produced a dominant performance to extend his unbeaten record at the expense of Cesar Nunez last time out in February, stopping the Spaniard in eight rounds to claim the vacant EBU European Union Super-Middleweight Title.

‘King Toretto’, who trains out of the 5th Street Gym in Miami, currently sits at No. 11 in the world with the IBF, No.13 with the WBO and No.15 with the WBA, and the 29-year-old can take a step closer to his dream of a World Title opportunity in the 168lbs division by defeating Doberstein (26-4-1, 7 KOs).

In the chief support bout, former EBU European Lightweight Champion Francesco Patera (23-3, 8 KOs) looks to extend his six-fight winning streak against Italian veteran Devis ‘Boom Boom’ Boschiero (48-6-2, 22 KOs) as they battle for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Title.

‘The Good Boy’ Nicholas Esponsito (14-0, 5 KOs) puts his Italian Welterweight Title on the line for the first time against Emanuele Cavallucci (12-4-1, 4 KOs), former Team GB standout Sandy Ryan (1-0) looks to build on her debut win at Fight Camp last month, undefeated Super-Welterweight talent Samuel Nmomah (15-0, 4 KOs) steps up against Ireland’s Craig ‘The Iron’ O’Brien (12-2, 1 KO), ‘The Albanian Bear’ Reshat Mati (10-0, 7 KOs) sees action for the second time this year and undefeated Super-Bantamweight Vincenzo La Femina (9-0, 4 KOs) looks to go 10-0.

“Italian boxing’s flag-bearer Daniele Scardina headlines an action-packed card in Milan as we continue to deliver on our long-term commitment with DAZN to grow boxing globally,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Scardina vs. Doberstein quickly follows on from our European Title double-header in Barcelona on September 11 and is another great addition to our busy upcoming schedule as we cement our position as the No.1 promotional company in world boxing.”

“We are very happy to finally have fans back at the Allianz Cloud in Milan,” said Christian Cherchi of OPI Since 82. “This is a stacked card featuring three title fights with Italy’s rising star Daniele Scardina topping the bill as he goes for the WBO Intercontinental Title against Juergen Doberstein. Francesco Patera against Devis Boschiero is a great fight for the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight Title and Nicholas Esposito vs. Emanuele Cavallucci is a great battle for the Italian Welterweight crown. Samuel Nmomah steps-up against Irishman Craig O’Brien plus there’s action for prospects Vincenzo La Femina, Reshat Mati and Sandy Ryan. Don’t miss it live and on-demand on DAZN!”

Press Release

On October 1 in the event promoted at Allianz Cloud in Milan (Italy) by Opi Since 82-Matchroom-DAZN unbeaten Italian welterweight champion Nicholas Esposito (14-0 with 5 KOs) will defend for the first time his title against Emanuele Cavallucci (12-3-1 with 4 KOs) on the 10 rounds distance.

Esposito is coming from a terrific performance against Tobia Loriga whom he defeated for the championship: a Mexican pelea that stole the show and made the fans go crazy.

After that fight, 27 years old Esposito is considered a talent who can go far. That’s what he said about Cavallucci: “He is a good fighter who can fight both in an orthodox stance that as a souhpaw.

“In every round, he fights at least two minutes as a southpaw. I have already defeated southpaws and I know what I have to do to beat Cavallucci. In life I am a southpaw, but in the ring I always fight orthodox.

“I train twice a day, for six days a week, in the gym operated by my father Enzo and my brother Mattia in a small town not far from Milan. Since becoming Italian champion I dedicate all my time to boxing, before I worked with my father. I am well prepared and I know that I will beat Cavallucci.”

32 years old Emanuele Cavallucci already won the Italian championship and wants it back. He is coming from two consecutive losses in Belgium and Finland and need a win to get his career back on track.

“What losses? In Finland they stole the virdict – said Cavallucci – and all the people who saw the fight agree with me. They said that I won at least 6 of the 8 rounds against Oskari Metz. Anyway, these things are part of boxing. I respect Esposito, but I am sure to beat him. I am training in Chieti, Abruzzo region, at the Tullio Di Giovanni gym operated by my coach Davide Di Meo.

‘Tullio Di Giovanni was his grandfather and a pro fighter famous in my city. Since I train with Davide my career started going the right way. I had 14 fights and won the Italian championship. Now it’s time to geti t back.”

About their future, both Esposito and Cavallucci said that they go one step at the time. “I am proud to be Italian champion – said Esposito – but I also would like to fight for an international title. Me and my father will talk to the Cherchi family of Opi Since 82: they have the experience to give us the right advice.”

Same thing for Cavallucci: “In boxing business comes first. If I win the Italian belt and they offer me a lot of money to defend it I will do it. If a foreign promoter offers me more money to fight abroad, I will accept.”

In the main event of the October 1 card, Daniele Scardina (19-0 with 15 KOs) will challenge Jurgen Doberstein (26-4-1 with 7 KOs) for the vacant WBO International super middleweight title on the 10 rounds distance. For the same belt, but in the lightweight division, Francesco Patera (23-3 with 8 KOs) will face Devis Boschiero (48-6-2 with 22 KOs).

I will attend this event, my first live after COVID. Looking forward to seeing Reshat (my brother also is coming just for him) and obviously all of the card, I am personally hyped for Boschiero vs Patera.

I thought Scardina looked good against Nunez last time out, got a tough rugged guy out of there, he's not the quickest and not that strong despite the decent KO ratio but puts his shots together alright, Doberstein been in with Braehmer and Krasniqi , stopped by Braehmer but all his other losses close

Couple of thoughts

1) They’ve not sold many tickets
2) Mike Costello needs to talk less. This TV not radio.

That's a shitty ending to a nicely brewing fight, Doberstein started off sharp and elusive moving pinging Scardina coming in,, he just reacted badly to a nothing right hand at end of 2nd so thought he might be pretty frail, Scardina pressured 3 and 4 and Doberstein wilted but still caught Scardina with plenty himself before the end of round, did he quit

Scardina still crude and slow

Doberstein had the movement to trouble Scardina and certainly the better handspeed of the two but his engine failed him quite quickly, was a decent watch while it lasted. Still think Scardina is an accident waiting to happen if he steps up, pretty ponderous and very easy to hit clean but keeps coming to be fair to him.

I was there live, due to COVID limitations only half of the tickets have been sold but still, there wasn't that much of a crowd, despite being loud.

Scardina vs. Doberstein was a dog fight, the german did not offer much but gave it all and took Toretto's game plan down. The Italian is still not ready for a serious fight, though.

Cavallucci/Esposito for the Italian title was a sprint, quick, durable southpaw against timing and solidity, they put a great show on. Boschiero was getting some steam but Patera deflected every shot and injured him with his razor-like precision.

Nmomah/O'Brien was short but scrappy, Mati looked his usual. Enjoyable event, especially for the non-glamorous Italian boxing scene of today.
