AJ’s Cardio routine - What can he do to improve it?

Post by SAPFO »

Stamina is stopping AJ using his best asset, which is his power. He can’t press the button, because he fears emptying the tank which he did against Ruiz, and has not been the same since.

What does he currently do for cardio? I see a lot of fancy stuff, but no basic roadwork, swimming, high alt training as many top fighters do these days. I’ve not heard the words ‘Big Bear’ for a long time.

And what CAN he do?

He CAN get cardio fitter. It’s not impossible. It’s the only way to maximise his biggest asset.

He should probably employ a triathlete as his cardio coach.

Maybe Fury was bang on. Joshua is just a bodybuilder and doesn’t do ‘beyond the limit’ cardio as it will affect his physique. AJ needs to decide whether he’s a 250lb banger… balls deep, ect box-fighter or a 230lb mover who boxers and can sustain a high-work.
He’s in-between at the moment and he’s lost an identity.

Stamina isn't his biggest problem. He's big and strong guy with polished basics and punching power, but that's it. His style is exactly basic. Joshua lacks fluidness and the ring IQ. A big stiff idiot, you know.

All this fall out from the fight is hilarious  AJ is very good as he is. Usyk is just masterful and a level above. End of.

Joshua is good, but he is like a bit improved version of other all British boi Frank Bruno. He should praise the lord for The Gypsy King having a coke vacation. Frank didn't have that much of a privilege in his times with all them tysons and lewises, so his triumph was way shorter.

He is a fast twitch monster. Dude could probably run 10.xx for the 100 meters with a bit of specific training.

With that muscle composition he is always going to struggle with endurance. That’s the genetic card he had been dealt.

Could he do more to improve his endurance… dropping down from 250 to 240 was a start but maybe the genetic gifts that helped him to develop so rapidly to elite level (power and explosiveness) also limit him making that transition from elite to greatness.

No idea how he trains of course…but you would like to think with the set up he has had over the last 10 years they would have figured it out.

As others have said Usyk is a master and he gets stronger throughout a fight ( see his cruiserweight championship run) so that amplified Joshua’s shortcomings.

There’s no chance in hell Joshua is running sub-15sec 100m, never mind 10sec

I'd say Sub 15 isn't unlikely.

I ran 12.3 as a 16 year old and I wasn't exactly an athlete

He ran 11.5 as recently as 2012 so unlikely he's lost that much speed

That was always a really interesting benchmark because of how heavy he was. Like Geoff Capes back in the day.

It was so impressive for his size and sport I thought it a mistake to not train to maintain it, but then as he added weight he was smashing through his opponents on the way up, so it felt less of a priority until recent events.

are you mental. AJ could borderline jog sub 15. id say AJ could run a sub 12 today with nothing but a warmup. dont know if he would have the start technique at 6'6 to ever go sub 11, mabey with lots and lots of dedicated start training but sub 11 is very tough for anyone, and 6'6 is far from ideal sprinting height.

Maybe AJ, Wilder, & Fury can have a 100m race. My money is on Wilder for the gold, AJ, a silver, and Fury the big slow dosser, the bronze.
