Eubank Jr "A big name or a world title fight is waiting for me in December", WHO? :)

Post by apollo creed »

"Nothing like this has ever happened in my career. First opponent gets COVID, second opponent fails a medical the day of the fight. It's surreal. It doesn't seem real," Eubank Jr. told Sky Sports.

"Everything happens for a reason and the plan now is to fight in two weeks' time. We're still on route. The plan is still to fight this month, so we're OK. Listen, I'm back in the gym tomorrow morning. I'm going to continue like this never happened and then I'll prepare for the next fight, which will be in a few weeks' time. There's plenty of opponents and it will be a good fight. It will be the right fight."

"The plan was and still is to fight in December," Eubank Jr. said. "We need to fight this month, so that I can have enough time to rest and then have a new training camp for a fight in December.

"It's vital that I get out this month and fight, because a big name or a world title fight is waiting for me in December."

@ BS

It could be Lara, Andrade or Charlo ?

But I have the feeling it would be 38 y/o Lara for his wba regular strap, so Eubank Jr could get GGG-Murata winner.

Andrade’s fighting Quigley in Nov.. so it’s probably Williams.

Sam Eggington? He was very recently offered the bout, but rejected it (due to small payday).

Chris is already the mandatory for the WBA title (apparently he tells everyone he is), so he doesn't really need to take any risks.

All he needs to do is wait for the outcome of the GGG-Murata bout.

I think he'll probably fight someone with a Lewis van Poetsch record!

When has the WBA announced Chris as mandatory? Doesn't Erislandy Lara have a regular belt.

It was mentioned in a Sky Sports interview with Chris Eubank Jr.

I also believe regular champs are rarely installed as the mandatory challenger to the WBA super champions.

No idea. It’s the rancid WBA.

If you look down the WBA rankings, you’ll quickly discover it’s very rare for regular champs to face their super titleholder counterparts.

No idea why. It’s just the way it is.

I’d give Eubank Jr. an excellent shot at dethroning the past-his-prime iteration of Erislandy Lara, but the Cuban isn’t a big name, and neither is the British domestic level Liam Williams (who was dominated by Demetrius Andrade during his most recent outing).

The Saunders rematch would be big though, but they’re aligned with rival promoters and networks.

And by Billy Joe’s own admission, he’s out-of-shape and gained a fair bit of weight, because he hasn’t been training. December is probably far too soon for him.

I really can’t help thinking that a “big” name for Wasserman would be considered disappointing for most knowledgeable fight fans.

Hopefully I’m wrong, and we’ll see Eubank Jr. face a decent opponent, but I strongly suspect I won’t be.

Kalle Sauerland mentioned Demetrius Andrade's name as a potential opponent.

The American would beat the Brit if they ever do fight.

Boo Boo will initially look impressive, but will inevitably resort to excessive clinching, making things scrappy and awkward for Eubank Jr, as soon as the American's chin is tested.

I'd be very surprised to see Eubank Jr. facing Andrade.

High-risk, low-reward.

Losing to GGG is far more lucrative, entertaining and profile-raising than being beaten by the stylistically displeasing Andrade.

There's no shame in Eubank Jr. losing to a dead-cert first ballot Hall-of-Famer like GGG. He'll be able to come again.

But losing to the anonymous and horrible to watch Andrade would essentially end his career.

Yup. But Eubank Jr has no notable win since DeGale to warrant a GGG fight. I mean he should fight a decent fighter like Chenko, even Lara would be a good scalp if Eubank would T/KO him or Andrade.

Chris Eubank Jr. is a commercially popular name in the UK. His resume doesn’t justify the status he holds on British shores.

He’s currently considered one of Sky Sports’ flagship names. And most agree he hasn't earned it!

GGG is definitely not going to reject a low-risk high-reward payday, by demanding that Eubank Jr. jumps through all sorts of hoops in order to “earn” the right to face him!

And let’s be perfectly honest, even Golovkin’s most fervent die-hard fans can’t seriously pretend the likes of Vanes Martirosyan, Steve Rolls and Kamil Szeremeta actually “earned” the right to face Gennadiy.

You actually approved of GGG’s participation in all three of those mismatches.

But for some reason, you believe that Eubank Jr. must “earn” the right to face GGG, by beating the likes of Andrade, Lara and Derevyanchenko.

Why do you feel that way?

If Eubank Jr would beat a decent name like Chenko, Lara or Andrade then a potential fight vs GGG would be even bigger and make more sense. It's about fairness and share of contribution. :TU:

The why did you choose to approve of the Vanes Martirosyan, Steve Rolls and Kamil Szeremeta bouts?

I mostly agree with your opinion, but I’m curious as to the reasons why you’ve applied different standards to GGG’s most recent mismatches.

I’m not being derogatory either, since I feel that (from purely a sporting perspective) Eubank Jr. hasn’t earned the right to fight GGG.

But I also believed that Vanes Martirosyan, Steve Rolls and Kamil Szeremeta didn’t earn that right either.

And before you labour over Szeremeta’s mandatory status, Tom Loeffler and Eddie Hearn admitted to lobbying the IBF to grant that status, to allow GGG to engage in voluntary defences afterwards.
