He’s in-between at the moment and he’s lost an identity.
You cannot come into Rocky music and not be prepared to pull the trigger out of fear for a counter.
This is such garbage. AJ is an elite level boxer with a big S&C team and will be training for boxing... he just happens to have more fast twitch muscle fibers than slow...
Thanks mate, I appreciate that. AJ just got beat off someone who weighs significantly less. Quite handidly. What do you suggest for the rematch; 240lbs and just try to engage more? He will just gas quicker even with his world class strength and fitness coaches. If he stands off… he gets outboxed. I don’t think Joshua can beat Usyk at 240lbs unless Usyk makes a mistake and gets cleaned out.
230lbs and try to force the pace or 250lbs and lean on him, then try to bang him.

I don’t think he can do much at this stage in terms of changing but against someone like Usyk he’s gonna need to throw more punches, lots of em every round, to prepare in training he’s gonna have to throw more punches, lots and lots and lots of em, forget all the other stuff and just concentrate on volume punching, failing that he’s gonna need to learn how to use his weight to wear the other guy out.

I think that AJ's fundementals are flawed. It's not about stamina or chin or whatever, his fundementals are all messed up.

It's like a building with a bad foundation. The fancy crap ontop of it will come crumbling down sooner or later because the foundation simply can't handle the weight. That being said it's amazing that he beat Andy Ruiz who is a fighter with great fundementals but then again Ruiz probably just has a cruiserweight frame under all that fat so size does count.

Yes, couldn't close the distance effectively. No comparison whatsoever with Usyk's mobility.

I'm no AJ fan but people are being harsh on him on this thread. Can only think of two British heavies who've had better careers than him, good going to say his fundamentals are crap etc.

He's a good fighter, at his best, very good, but he's not adaptible enough in fight. The best fighters can tear up their plan A, or in fact have no plan they can just make it up as they go along.

Joshua can't do that, he's mentally rigid.

He has good punch technique, but he has slow feet, he goes in and out in straight lines, and his lateral movement is very predictable.

Any guy as big as Joshua is somewhat one paced and likely to be one dimensional. And reliant upon hurting smaller, more mobile opponents.

The issue for Joshua was that Usyk was fit enough to stick to his plan, determined enough to boss Joshua and obviously possesses a rarified level of both skill& discipline. And creative enough to throw those surprise left hands that stunned Joshua.

Add to that being a southpaw, which most heavyweight champs in history had the luxury of not having to deal with, until the likes of Moorer and Byrdcame along in the’90s. Considering also that Moorer was complete flat footed, and that Byrd usually backed upon the ropes, or was unable to continually adjust positional AND use upper body movement like Usyk did.

(I could imagine super sized heavyweights Lewis or Bowe looking very clumsy & off balance until catching up & imposing themselves on someone like Byrd. Even Vitali had issues, tearing his rotator cuff during the fight vs a dexterous lefty. Wlad got it right, although a very fussy and for some overly technical boxer.)

Usyk is basically extraordinary. Great fighter beat a good fighter. But great opportunity for Joshua to show something new, next time out. If he can. The clue would surely be the body punching, although that would open him to taking more head shots…

It’s easier now to appreciate why Joshua is no Lennox Lewis. I think Lewis would have commanded centre ring, and controlled Usyk with his jab and the threat of the huge straight right. I think he would have made Usyk very passive. I just don’t think Joshua has those sort of tools to hand.

Yeah, Lewis was very smart. As somebody posted above, Joshua doesn’t have that level of savvy (or confidence).

Lewis could win fights with the jab alone, it was like a battering ram.

i thought it was kinda obvious what i meant. To clarify....AJ is clearly a mesomorph, who should probably retain a body fat percentage closer to 15% rather than his 10%≤ range hes currently sporting. His game is not build on speed, but more power, so he should have a bigger (although less muscled) physique, like a whyte or chisora, or the heavy's akin to era's back in the day. He almost looked physically smaller than Usyk. He seems to cut for aesthetic purposes.

Mesomorph is just a generalism, these are not scientific terms, they are just classifications, genetics is a lot more complicated than that.

Joshua looks to have a naturally low body fat percentage, and when in training, this is lowered even further, a lot of west africans have similar genetics.

It wouldn't make any sense for him to be cutting weight like a bodybuilder as a professional athlete for obvious reasons.

Joshua is actually naturally fairly slim, you can see that in his early bouts as an amateur, but has built up a lot of muscle tissue through resistance training.

Usyk is quite barrell chested, but his legs were definitely a lot skinnier than Joshuas.
