Yeah - as a I said previously he was floored heavily several times in the Commonwealth final. and he was stopped several times albeit at a good level. Still achieved an awful lot as an amateur,

Wish they gave him a lovejoy like opponent headlining this Liverpool card as a goodbye. But glad he is retiring befor being fed to prospects. Truely one of the most likeable (and watchable) guys in boxing.

He was stopped a few times, which can happen to any boxer in the am's , but it was more the nature of the stoppages , proper wobbly and hurt. Take the loss to Camerelle in the Olympics, gone from one shot.
But fair play to Price, he didn't go for a slow build up in the pros, the gamble against Thompson didn't work out, and for me his corners lost confidence in him after that.

Way back in my first couple of years posting on this forum, I got totally schooled by a knowledgeable poster (it was either Carlos in one of his guises or Ilikebeer) who pissed on me thinking Pricey was better than he was by accurately predicting he was a KO waiting to happen, and it would occur sooner or later and they didn't really care when.

He's a rare beast though- a likeable scouser! And he seems like he should be able to carve himself a career as a pundit or something? If the insufferable Bellew can end up in Hollywood and get multiple pundit gigs, then surely the infinitely more affable Price can do something after boxing?

I'm glad he's retiring. Too nice a bloke to see keep taking damage.

A good fighter and yes at one stage I bought the hype - remember him and Wilder beating Harrison in similar fashion at a similar time - imagine if they would have fought by then.

But in hindsight - he made a good career but possibly shouldn't have turned over. He was just perfect for the amateurs but didn't seem to have that true spitefulness for the pro's and it was apparent after Thompson that he found his level - I'd don't think I have ever seen a fighter with such a lack of a poker face. You know when he was knackered or hurt.

Price is likeable. Just became gunshy after Thompson. I think Thompson tested positive as well. I’m not sure how much money he has made, but he can do some punditry which I thought he was quite good at.

Nothing particularly funny, Frank Maloney sent his tailor round to measure Price up and as he was in camp and on weight he asked him to make a suit with a bit of room in it for when he’d put on a few pounds.

Pricey was the sort of guy in fights that had that unfailingly tense feel to them, usually because I had money on them but also because of his tendency to knock someone out or (usually) get knocked out himself.

His losing performance vs Povetkin was actually his best showing IMO. Imagine if he’d followed up on that crunching left hook he landed flush!

I wonder how much he made in his career, you can’t imagine it’d be that much to be able to retire on… not sure what he’ll do next
