The 1st fight
The 1st fight
So when Fury was laid on the canvas in round 12 of the 1st fight, what do we think was happening:-
His head was clear he was just showboating
His head was clear but just needed time to come round
His head wasn’t clear thus why he took the full 8 or 9 seconds to clear it

Re: The 1st fight
The last, he was struck senseless until his incredible recovery abilities kicked in, after about five seconds.
It’s an interesting one, because it could easily have ended as a devastating KO loss for Tyson.
In one sense, he’s lucky that he had Jack Reiss as ref that night, a referee known for not stopping fights unless the other guy is half dead.
6 out of 10 referees prob would’ve seen his head bounce off the canvas, then that vacant stare, and waved the fight off immediately, then called for the doc. If not right away, then maybe at the count of 3/4…
Thank God he didn’t, because that round became one of the great boxing moments in recent times.

He was out. He was also lucky the way his back broke his fall and he was already half way down after the right hand in my view, to prevent a further impact on his head.
God only knows what is happening from the count of 5, but I will never forget the little jog he does when he is instructed to get to the corner.
Just one of the most incredible things to happen in a boxing ring in my lifetime. And I know it wasn't the most entertaining fight in the usual way these things are judged, but given the back story and the importance, I had found the previous 11 rounds utterly enthralling.

Re: The 1st fight
I think everyone knows what happened, he was knocked out, came to and then got up.
Re: The 1st fight
Yeah - similar to Shannon Briggs a couple of times vs Lennox. He was out but when his head cleared it was pretty instant. Although contrary to how people have commentated on it since - it wasn't an instant as soon as the ref said "fight on" Fury pushed Wilder back and threw punches - there was still a 10 second or so period where he was still clearing his head - but WIlder was also pretty knackered.
However - showcased amazing legs as he didn't looked wobbled or groggy as he got up.

He was gone. No one could’ve complained if Reiss waved it off.
Will never forget Fury putting his hands behind his back and chin out mocking Wilder soon after.

Re: The 1st fight
Any other ref waves that off even Smoger probably and nobody could've really complained, Fury was flat on his back motionless for a good few seconds, most refs would stop the count halfway, especially with Wilder's punch reputation, it was a bit like Groves in the Froch rematch where he sprung into life just as ref waved it off
Re: The 1st fight
when i see it i fought night night looking at it not sure if it was tiredness as well, ive been ko i dont how long it was for,but i got pulled back up straight way from regain consciousness so he could of been ko out there
Re: The 1st fight
Legend
Wilder couldn't have hit him any harder
Fury broke his heart just by getting up
And Fury clearly won the rest of the round and the whole fight

I don’t think that knockdown was as bad as it looked (it looked dramatic). When you watch in slow motion, even though he was hit, he was riding the punch, which helped soften the blow. It wasn’t an Ortiz/breezale type shot

Re: The 1st fight
left wasnt flush
someone who is terribly hurt doesnt steady himself and fight back successfully so quickly

Re: The 1st fight
That's the whole point, despite being hurt, he showed amazing recuperative powers to get up(did you see Wilders face?)margaret thatcher wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 19:52 left wasnt flush

Still needed time to gather himself, rode it out and then won the rest of the round.
The fact he wasn't knocked out or terribly hurt was a testament to his chin and balls.
No other heavyweight around at the moment would have got up from the same shots.
Re: The 1st fight
He was out, just recovered fast and good enough to beat the count and not to wobble around.
Re: The 1st fight
The result still irks me. Knockdowns or otherwise, Fury clearly won the fight overall on points.
As far as I’m concerned it’s Fury 2-0 Wilder going into a dead rubber this evening.

Yes, definitely up there with the best. Holmes v Shavers was similar, except holmes said hitting his head on the canvas woke him up!Coco wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 20:14That's the whole point, despite being hurt, he showed amazing recuperative powers to get up(did you see Wilders face?)margaret thatcher wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 19:52 left wasnt flush

Re: The 1st fight
It must have woke Holmes up because he didn’t spend long on the canvas
