Wilder Vs …. ?

Post by bobcatbox »

Who are the most likely next few opponents? How would he fare against… ?

Otto Wallin

Robert Helenius

Carlos Takam

Efe Ajagba

Trevor Bryan

Frank Sanchez

Michael Hunter

I think he knocks all of them out to be honest. Maybe Sanchez could get the best of him.

Wilder v Joshua or Wilder v Whyte would be interesting.

I don't think we'll see Wilder in the ring again though.

The Usyk-Joshua bout loser (Joshua) for the Bronze at the ranking and for completing the history they have.

I'd say an Al Haymon fighter if he's fighting anyone. Probably Charles Martin or Helenius. Frank Sanchez would be a logical pick for any HW trying to climb back up the ranks, but I don't think I would advise him. Sanchez is too fast and would school Wilder.

Can't see Wilder fighting again, he took his previous loss to Fury very badly, I can only imagine the psychological damage last night has caused him.
I've never been his biggest fan, but he has had an entertaining career and made a lot of money.
I just hope he can recover fully and enjoy the fruits of his labour with his family.

Look at Charles Martin's IBF ranking, looks like it's being kept for someone else :OhYes:

And Luis Ortiz ain't fighting anyone, being kept on ice for Wilder or Ruiz

Bit early, isn't it? I'm not sure he'll fight again. He doesn't take losing too well, and he used every conceivable (and almost every inconceivable) excuse for the loss last time. He also took a serious beating and doesn't seem like the kind of guy that's happy knowing he's 2nd best.

The only excuse Wilder can have for not winning tonight, whilst simultaneously maintaining that he's the better man, is to either blame it on his age and convince himself he would have won in his 'prime' or to blame it on the will of God. Either of these make it difficult for him to fight again.

That fact he still does not stop trying to win while absorbing a beating makes makes it easy to believe he may not be ready to call it a career yet.

Boxers who have realized they are at the end of the road usually let the corner stop it between rounds, go "safety first" to avoid a KO or choose to stay down if they get dropped.

Yeah but he put himself in a difficult position after sacking Breland for pulling him out.

He left himself with no choice but to go out on his shield.

Which, to be fair, he did.

Joshua or Whyte would be fun fights.

IMO He should have steered clear of Fury in 2018 and fought them first IMO but too late for that now.

Entertaining career?
Your easy pleased.
What about all the years after winning the belt from Stiverene?
No he won't fight Wlad to unify.
No he won't fight Povetkin, just pretend to.
No he won't fight Joshua.
No he won't take a proper mandatory and fight Whyte.
But he will fight fat Fury, and lose 3 times.
It was a protected, poor reign. It only came unstuck when they picked another easy beat who turned out to be quite decent. And then it was over.

I know it’s unlikely but to support his legacy he needs to beat a few from other promotions, otherwise he has a super inbred list of wins.

Whyte should be top priority (know he is ment to fight fury but who knows if that happens), AJ, Parker, chisora ect.

Given the current state of play it's hard to imagine Hearn (Whyte, AJ, Chisora) working with PBC for any of those fights unless it was mandated by an alphabet body

I think he should continue if he wants. Plenty of fringe guys he can beat for good money in US.

If Wilder wants to keep going then the initial opponent is pretty irrelevant. Just get a KO or 2 over anybody to get going again and then shop for the bigger fight. It would be a mistake to go right into another big fight without dropping back down to optimal weight and knocking a head or 2 off.

Chauncy Welliver would be a great match. The most HW rounds without going down king vs the hardest puncher alive. If Wilder got back to 215 or so and managed to knock Welliver down or out there would be no question that he was back in business as a man to be feared. Knocking Welliver down is humanly impossible. If Wilder accomplished it he would be on the super human plane.

But it could backfire too. I would expect Welliver to take him all 12 rounds easily unless he took a bad cut or injury. :bag:

I'd like to see Wilder vs either Ruiz or winner of Whyte vs Wallin. Even loser of that would be good.

I still wouldn't mind seeing him fight Ruiz if he decides to continue.

We all know he can't beat Fury and Usyk is too skilled for him, but there's still some fun fights for him just below the elite level.

he was talking about retirement before the fight so it wouldnt surprise me if he did call it a day, he took a sick beating and got brutally ko'd

as for who he should fight if he continues, maybe ruiz or even helenius, then if he wins that back aiming for a last big fight

True, I found that defeatist, and prior to the second fight, wholly out of character.
He may retire, but from what we have learned about him, he is not exactly frugal with his money...
So if he makes some life changes and can buget his earnings, he will retire for good. If he burns through it (the most likely scenario) then expect a come back at 38 years old against some even older name like Ortiz, gawd help us
