Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
Of course Lewis is #1.
Have to give Fury a lot of credit outboxing Wlad in Germany & outslugging Wilder in America.
To have a one sided win over an all time great heavyweight, and then to get the better of the biggest puncher, p4p, in the world in an amazing trilogy is high level stuff.
But he has many side dramas which seems to prevent him from having fights vs top contenders. Just need to see a little consistency, now.

Yeah he looked like he trained a couple of weeks. Incredibly he had enough to wear down Wilder. Seems to have transformed, in style & physique, in order to manhandle Wilder. But will this prevent him from being adaptable vs other challengers?KiwiRider wrote: ↑10 Oct 2021, 14:39 Fury has some work still to do.
2 good opponents so far. Maybe beating Del Boy counts as well, but I believe Del wasn't at his peak then either.
Thing is, will he do it?
The guy is so unpredictable both inside and outside the ring. I don't even think we saw the best Fury last night. Will we ever see the best Fury?
Will he go off the rails?
Retire?
Open a kebab shop and get wide on his own supply?
I can guarantee he will continue to stuff the HW division around though.

I’d imagine Fury will take another year to get back in the ring. If it’s the highly skilled Usyk the just turn up weighing heavy approach might come up short this time.Autobarn wrote: ↑10 Oct 2021, 16:08Yeah he looked like he trained a couple of weeks. I think coming in heavy, climbing all over him and roughing him up will work well.
However with his reach advantage I think he could outbox him from the outside too.
In reality Fury will be hoping AJ wins the rematch, a much more sellable fight.

lennox is defo #1
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
He's second obviously.
He's a threat to anyone in history on his best night - size, skills, will, chin, engine and a real boxing brain.
But at the true elite ATG level I think he's still a bit of a gangly giraffe that punched himself in the face.
Lennox on his best night too fluid and big enough. Wins by dec all day long, maybe even with a KnockDown or too.
No other Brit heavyweights are in the ATG conversation.

Who are Lewis's top five wins?
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
Being the only man to stop a rising Vitali - when expecting an easy Kirk Johnson retirement showcase - is better than Fury's win against an aging Wlad on an off night.

That's a good comparison. Lewis looked poor, but that was Vitali in his prime, and Fury's never fought anyone as tough as him.
Holyfield and Tyson were past their best, and we can always mention Bowe's bin, but Rahman II was some really classy boxing. Mason and Bruno gave it their best and fell short, Briggs was a threat at the time, and obviously Tua. Tucker, Ruddock, Morrison and Mercer were respectable names. In terms of Lewis' record, Ibeabuchi's the exception that proves the rule.

Vitali likes to whinge about that one, but the amount of nasty eye injuries we’ve had in boxing lately. A couple more rounds of that and I bet he’d have ended up blind in one eye and not had a career.

fornicate off.
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
There's no one around that Fury can/will beat that puts him in LL's class. Sorry, but Lewis is Britain's all time best HW.
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
Lewis is overrated. He's absolutely more stiff than even a fat Fury.
Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
A true statement.

Nah, hopefully you produce enough drool to water your house plants.

Re: Is Fury best ever british heavyweight ?
It's fair to question how Lewis would've fared against the mid-'90s Holyfield, and whether the younger Tyson would've got to him. Ditto Ibeabuchi when Lewis was winding down. Lewis was super-wary of Tyson for the two rounds he was able to maintain his old pace.
But Holyfield and Tyson were as close to their primes as Wlad was when Fury beat him, and better than Wlad in their day. And Lewis beat them. If you could teleport the rest of Lewis' best opponents, they'd fill most of today's top ten.
