AJ isn’t there yet, but who knows what his career will look like in 5 years.

As for fury, eye test he might be the best, but is a 39 year old kilt, chisora twice, and wilder 3 times (nearly got stopped in 2 of them) good enough to surpass Lewis, no. If those two were to of fought prime vs prime I’d have it as a pickem.
AJ won't have another 5 years at the top. I strongly suspect Usyk gives him a pasting in the rematch.

He already seems gushy, and the aura of danger is gone. I think he's done as a major force now.

I don't see Usyk dominating the division, surely he can't give fury 50 pounds and win?

Fury simply can't beat the level of competition big Len did in the time remaining.

A win over Usyk and Joyce leaves him a respectable 2nd on the all time Brit list.

I suspect Fury wouldve caused Lewis some problems due to his size and awkwardness - see Akinwande and Mavrovic. Unlikely it would have been enough to beat Lewis who I reckon would come out the winner in a hard fought points victory.

Akinwande was like a bloody octopus in that fight. Mavrovic was a right hard bastard and awkward as hell.

Fury leaves enough openings for Lewis to land some bombs, and lennoxs punches were landed with full weight behind them. I think a prime Lewis stops him. Easy to forget how hard he hit. For me his right cross was the biggest weapon of any Heavyweight champ. His jab was also rock solid, fast and hard.

If you watch a young Frank Bruno beating him, he wasn’t that bothered by Frank’s punching power. I think the ref could have let it go on and it probably would have gone the distance. Maybe with Frank hanging on a bit in the end. Who knows?! Nearly made the commonwealth games discus team for Australia when in his early 40’s. Probably a little known fact!
I saw that fight a few weeks ago. My conviction was that the prime Bugner (from the 1973 to 1977 years) would have handled Bruno. The sluggish, aging (36 years old), and semi-active Bugner of 1987 gave Bruno enough trouble to make that impression on me. A young Bugner would have done that much better.

But I don't think Bugner would have stood a chance against the likes of Tyson Fury or Lennox Lewis. That's because Joe was never comfortable except on defense. His punch output was low. Under pressure, Bugner tended to shift into his defensive shell, and often he stayed there. That's when opponents could outhustle him and steal the fight on points.

Best I can say about a prime Bugner is that he was evasive and durable, and for these reasons, he could have lasted the full 12 or 15 rounds against Lewis and Fury.

Also, I don't believe Bugner could have beaten Anthony Joshua for the same reasons that Lewis and Fury would have beaten him (too defensive). I question if Bugner could have handled Derick Chisora and Dillian Whyte as well.
Bugner was a very good fighter, just not good enough at top level. I agree he wouldn't have beaten fury or Lewis. I don't see him being able to hang with Lewis though, as Lewis had skills and serious power.

Yeah the pundits saw that Tua came in heavy and like you say never gave Lewis much credit. I’m pretty sure neither Fury or Joshua would’ve have got through quite so unscathed.
Overweight 5'10 Tua is posing no problems for Fury.
How much would you have dared bet on that one? Not your house I’m guessing.
For Fury to UD Tua? I'm going all in. Easy money.

Don't act like the whole UK didn't nut themselves over Joshua and speak of the era as a mini-golden age post Klitschko.
Now it's back to the same garbage tier commentary that this era was never good since AJ is dethroned and Fury is on top. All predictable, standard revisionism from the boxing community.

Where does Tyson Fury rank ?
Lennox Lewis then Fury imo, prime Lewis, the one who beat morrison fortune golota beats Fury imo but it's just an opinion, who knows though, fury could find a way
Random to pick out Fortune. From memory it was the first post-McCall, Manny Stewart fight. Lewis was pretty tentative trying out some new skills, but did finish the fight was a nice uppercut in the 4th. Fortune was just an Aussie bodybuilder who could barely win a fight back in Oz. 2nd Rahman fight had Lewis in pretty determined mood. Reckon Fury would have gone splat against that Lennox.
His first fight post mcCall 1 was levi billups,I mentioned fortune because I remember that fight I was about 17 and it sticks in my mind lol.

There’s been plenty of good matchups, lots of surprises, rivalries, a genuinely great fighter stepping up from cruiserweight and putting in a masterclass, contenders fighting one another, dramatic comebacks.

This era has been superb, and many boxing fans are ungrateful. I suffered through that terrible era of Audley, Sprott, Skelton and Danny Williams, and this era has delivered so much by comparison.

Also I recall Buncey in an old article on heavyweights (think it was in Boxing Monthly) made a great point that we never really had a good era of British heavyweights (barring Lennox), at least not for a very long time.

At this point Fury is in 2nd spot behind Lewis, but only due to the lack of longevity of defences & at this point not being undisputed, to cement his legacy and put him in that No.1 spot for me Fury would need to fight his mandatory (winner of whyte/wallin) next defending his title and winning, then fight the winner of Usky/Joshua 2 for undisputed championship and win that becoming undisputed champion, then maybe defends his undisputed against either the loser so in a rematch in there fight or move on and fight the loser of the Joshua/usyk fight and give them a shot again defending his undisputed titles, so he’s fought them all, then for me with their wins and in achievements it puts him has not only the greatest British fighter of all time but greatest heavyweight in history and in the top 2 if not the the greatest boxers ever in history. He will be the only heavyweight to beat 3 Olympic champions, plus other Olympians & medalists, in his head count, to win every title there is to win, went away from home and dethroned the man who was the man and the longest reigning champion in Klitschko, then going away from home (not even taking into account his personal struggles & comebacks) and beat the long reigning, biggest puncher in boxing history, he will also be undefeated which is another amazing achievement to add to the long list & beat current champions, past champions, and the future champions after he’s retired cementing his legacy.

Love him or hate him there is not a single person that can argue or play down any of those facts or be able to rate anyone higher, in any department or achievements, also in the past who beats him ? IMO no one, the closet would be Lewis, has he was a skilful, solid punching, big man who could throw combinations (something today’s heavyweights other than Ruiz don’t and can’t do) but for me the movement, size & ability of fury hedges him IMO to beat Lewis, I can understand there may be the argument the division isn’t as solid has the 90’s era and that’s true, but the size of the modern day heavyweights along with all the Olympians has champions/past & current & coming into the division makes it a close second to that era and the best it’s been since & even prior to that era which again stands fury in the definite No.1 spot in history full stop if he can complete them achievements I laid out in his next 3 fights above

Sometimes when they do the 100 best movies of all-time, you always end up with a sprinkling of films that came out that year. People have such short memories. I think the problem with getting to carried away with Fury's abilities is that if Usyk widely outpoints him or Joyce wears him out and stops him, then he immediately overnight drops well down any all-time ranking list. Plus Wilder is quite poor and in no way the biggest puncher of all-time. That's just really silly!

Usyk's a threat but I sure as hell don't understand the rationale that people have when it comes to Joe Joyce. He hasn't demonstrated to me that he is a legitimate threat. He takes a damn good punch and he hits hard but that's it. The man is slower than molasses.

A close, if not controversial, win over an ageing but undisputed champion in Wlad is still his best win. People have acknowledged Wilder as a poor boxer for years.

Fury is obviously a very good heavyweight but still has a while to go to overtake Lennox. A win over Usyk and a convincing victory over Joshua/Joyce/Whyte, while remaining undefeated, would be enough to overtake him though in my opinion.

Fury certainly can’t be faulted for winning the biggest fights, outboxing the boxer Klitschko and battering the puncher in two of three fights. Doing all that away from home, as well.

The only thing missing, is can he turn back challenger after challenger? In serious fights vs a big schedule of contenders gunning for him?

Like I say Fury has the big wins, but between, he seems to go through various side dramas and issues. Apart from Wallin, who wasn’t ranked at the time, his other fights since winning the championship (Seferi, Pianeta, Schwartz) were not serious opponents & felt like tune ups or even sideshows.

Can Fury maintain focus and fend off determined efforts by, for instance, Whyte & his peers?

My thoughts, more or less, also. I think Fury would lose to a lesser opponent if he fought often enough, but he'll always perform well against his toughest opposition.

Mavrovic was compared to Usyk, but even Povetkin is leagues more accomplished than Zeljko, who lost to all his contemporaries in the Amateurs and beat nobody in the Pros.

So exactly what I said, he if beats usyk, Joshua, whyte, the next best 3 heavyweights (2 of which are former world champions & Olympic gold medalists) then there is no argument, and I think what is really silly (in your words) is the fact you disagree with the proven, statistical facts that wilder is in fact the biggest puncher in heavyweight history & most probably in the history of boxing as a whole 🤷🏻‍♂️ And As far has being technically poor, well that goes without saying, no one can deny that about wilder, hence I never mentioned his actual boxing ability from a technical point Of view just his punch power, and the fact he was a medalist Olympian and long reigning world champion, I will say again he must defend, unify & beat those 3 names to cement his legacy and take his position has being number 1 and achieving things that no other heavyweight has ever done, and not many boxers in any weight division for that fact, & non from these shores at all, beaten longest reigning world champion away from home, defeated long reigning world champion who also was also former Olympian medalist & biggest puncher in boxing history, again away from home, beat 3 Olympic gold medalists ( something no other boxer has done ) will retire unbeaten, unfied the division, defended, 2 x lineal heavyweight champion, won every title there was to win all the way through, beat the old guard, beat the current guard and beat the new up & coming, so much to list, but again only if he beats those 3 names, defending in the process & unifying, that’s then cements him firmly has numero uno, no argument at all

Fury has a lot to do to be on the same level as Lewis yet. Beating a worn Klitschko and Wilder is just not going to cut it. Lewis went against some of the best heavies to lace the gloves.

Fury needs to beat Whyte, AJ, Usyk and Ruiz, maybe more. Then we can start talking about being the greatest British heavyweight. But for now Lewis is still far ahead. His resume is nothing short of remarkable really and will be hard to beat.

Tucker, Ruddock, Mccall, Morrison, Mercer, Golota, Holyfield, Briggs, Botha, Rahman, Vitali, Tyson, Tua

This resume shits all over Fury currently.

I’m just not sure there is the opposition now to adequately judge him against heavyweights of the past.
