Women's boxing taking over

Post by peter barlow »

Hearns next 2 UK cards (which are poor already) have women's boxing chief support. They're way up the card everytime now

And supposedly Savannah Marshall is main event on Sky Saturday.

They clearly way overestimate the interest in this stuff. It's starting to downgrade Hearns cards big time.

Early days on Sky but it seems they may even outdo Hearn in this regard. They want to put Savannah Marshall Vs Claressa Shields on Sky Box Office ..... :brick:

Won't be getting my money for any of this shit.

Somebody in boxing is eventually going to step up and tell people women's boxing is total garbage and has no business being on PPV cards with men. It's a gimmick designed to appease the woke masses.

Hearn and Sky say world title fight on the card.. Guaranteed it's a womens fight.

Last time there was a triple header world title fights..

Two of them was womens..

Why are British boxers (males) not winning world titles?

They're getting opportunities aren't they?

We have what 2-3 world champions?

It's the same with SKY and football, talk about the Premier League and it is the Women's Premier League. Are there any female fans of women's boxing ? Or just a few guys knocking one out over seeing women have a scrap ?

I gwt more notifications from my Sky SPORTS app on my mobile about Womens Prem league than I do about mens.

The you have Adam Smith cheerleading for netball.

DAZN cant get anything else, so they have Womens Champions League and are advertising that every day..

Its certainly a gimmick, and cheap filler which is why Hearn is pushing out this crap. The old wise guys allegedly, Arum etc know there is no interest or depth so don't have anything to do with it.

Its the younger promoters trying to appear progressive. But it doesn't do tickets or views yet gets pushed hard.
Hearn and Sky think theyre being smart but how long until calls for equal pay, demands for women commentators etc

Sky are pathetic since Comcast took over. They destroyed SSN with all this crap. They will start talking about Man City beating Chelsea and won't even mention its womens. Same on the website and other broadcasters copying now.

They even do Player of the Match now in mens football not Man of the Match....

How many tickets does she sell? As far as I'm aware Galahad doesn't sell tickets, and the rest of the card is unconfirmed with TBA's

From what I understand the main British promoters have all dismissed it to people behind the scenes at one time or another. Sky demanded it from Hearn. Hearn hadn't much interest. These days though hes likely looking at how he can put cheap title fights on. Much like his WBA Regular stuff, or his new found fascination with Mexican light flyweights.
Sky though will likely push it even harder.

I have only ever enjoyed or been into 2 women's boxing matches. Both were to see Shannon Courtenay's head get panned in.

You should have the right to veto certain things if you don't want kids being taught it. Mind you the internet is probably even worse for kids these days than anything they'd do in school.

When you have women world champions as bad as Shannon Courtenay and Ebony Bridges - and even the better regarded ones facing the likes of Alycia Baumgardner, then you know women's boxing has a very long way to go.

For its own good it should be allowed to develop away from sight - because it's not doing itself any favours how bad it is at the moment.

I think the problem is some of these boxing promotions are trying to do what WWE did they had nothing but women pay-per-views and the ratings started to tank a bit.

I don't mind women having more opportunities and bigger platforms but it's not pay-per-view worthy unless it's the absolute biggest women's fights available.

I'm trying to think of women's title fights I've enjoyed.
Rachel Ball vs Shannon Courtney and Katie Taylor vs Delphine Persoon 1.
Except I thought Persoon won that fight. Maybe a Shields fight.
So I really enjoyed those two, and a few others have been watchable, but in general the standard is not the best for title fights, and it's hard to make an impact in 2 minute rounds.

Yes also the UFC, although I'm not sure how popular it is anymore with MMA fans.

But think about the demographics of boxing fans. It's 99.99% men and mostly working class ones same with the boxers themselves.

I just don't see the demand there for this to be so prominent from fans. It's getting to the stage now it's stealing opportunities from male boxers, and most women's fights are mismatches in divisions with no depth.

I enjoyed Taylor Vs Jonas. There's a place for fights of that magnitude but to have multiple fights on every show is a different thing. Especially when we now are having to pay extra subscription which is increasing in price rapidly.

At least womens football is a seperate event. Womens boxing is being thrown on mens cards watering down the quality and pushed to top of the card.

We have a womens fight headlining a Sky show this weekend that is 1/100 on. Then Hearns doing 2 chief supports plus others on those cards.
