Thank God I can still find some sanity here on the good old boxrec forum. Several years ago I remember a line from one of my favourite journalists Rod Liddle when he talked of “the feminisation of bbc sport”. Everywhere you look there’s a blonde presenter or a female pundit or a screeching female commentator.

Now not only do we get these over promoted under skilled women on the presenting side we get women’s sport foisted on us. There’s a reason why for example my team Man City average 50k crowds each week while our women’s team are lucky to draw 1000 people in yet the broadcasters chuck vast sums at them to secure the rights to the womens game. Why ?

And womens boxing, Jesus where do I start. There’s something not quite right about seeing girls punch each other in the face. Add to that the fact that you’ve never heard of most of them and that the vast majority are way less skilled than any amateur in any abc up and down the country and it makes me seethe to think this rubbish is being shoved down my face by virtue signalling ppv broadcasters.

Give em their own channel, let them sink or swim by their own popularity and give us back our fight cards

Spot on

If only Hearn and his minions and the circus act at Sky would take note. With Katie Taylor retiring soon and now getting his fingers burnt with Courtenay and Jonas, his enthusiasm may be waning.

It doesn't help that they've selected Courtney as their female fighting flag bearer. She's as likeable as cancer.

Do an all female fight card and see how many tickets it sells and show the viewing figures.

I think Terri Harper is the one Eddie is hoping develops into something that will move women's boxing forward.
Terri appears to be likeable, and also young compared to the other established women boxers.

Her next opponent is terrible though as expected!

Female boxing is another nail in boxing's coffin ..

I miss the 70`s and 80`s so badly.

I saw that the Canadian president, a WOKE twat if there ever was one corrected someone in the audience and said "we dont say mankind anymore, we say peoplekind, its more inclusive"

When did all this nonsense start and where will it end. I heard that "Master Bedroom" is not used anymore, It sickens me to my stomach.

I blame social media. Id like to go back in time, find the numptie who invented the mobile phone and smash his noggin off

Somebody in boxing is eventually going to step up and tell people women's boxing is total garbage and has no business being on PPV cards with men. It's a gimmick designed to appease the woke masses.

The thing that amuses me is the Guardian writing articles about the ‘exploding popularity of women’s football’ (which is wrong, domestic women’s football is actually declining in popularity across Europe) and every time you see highlights there is an entirely empty stand behind the goal

Listen if women want to play sport they should obviously have every opportunity to, but nobody has a right to expect a living from something with so little interest.

Also if the folks investing in this think that commercial success in sport will be driven by social justice they are sorely mistaken.

By the way I don’t think it costs that much to acquire the rights to women’s games

£15m Sky are paying for the rights to show 44 womens PL games. Works out as £340k a game.

Surely there’s a cheaper way to fill 2 hrs of airtime that gets higher viewing figures than whatever they get for these games ?

fornicate me, that seems like a fortune, although I’m definitely no expert on this

Why would they pay that much? Surely there wasn’t a bidding war?

In comparison with the vast sums splurged on the mens game then I suppose it’s small beer and the only commercial reason I can think of for them doing so is that it’s a relatively cheap yet very publicly visible way of virtue signalling :maybe:

Woke idiots with money to burn. Women's football is nearly as bad as women's boxing. The women's PL teams aren't even the level of the average Sunday league football side. In fact any PL under 15's team would murder their own clubs womens team. Yet Sky think this garbage deserves public display? And for 340K a game.. :brick:

I can see better players in my local Powerleague games for free..

You’re spot on. Famously the all conquering USA women’s soccer team lost to FC Dallas’ U15 boys team a couple of years ago.

gold medal womens hockey team also lost to 14 year old boys 6-2 or something

there are some decent womens fights, but for the most part its just a buzzkill, often totally kills the momentum on a card

I’ve been thinking what the average gate must be at these games assuming an average turnout of 1000 or so (which may be generous) You’ve got to assume some are free too. Tickets are £9 at many grounds just having googled. So let’s say 7-8k or so coming from the gate per game. No clue what the home viewership is but you can’t imagine they’re going to be that emotionally invested

Do the broadcasters investing in the rights to this seriously have confidence in turnouts/home audiences improving? What do they think the market is? Or is it literally just that it’s a relative punt on some sort of hipster/social justice audience developing in places like Dalston where it’s cool for the sort of people who document their pronouns on LinkedIn to sit in microbreweries and watch the women’s game … seems quite a limited market

For this to have happened you have to believe that the people signing cheques genuinely don’t understand the difference between the emotional investment and tribalistic mentality of an average premier league fan that spreads through decades and generations vs the mentality of someone who watches non-league level stuff or watches out of curiosity

I’m genuinely fascinated

For me its the standard. Women’s tennis is a high standard and I enjoy watching it, also women’s MMA, it’s a strong standard. Women’s boxing aside from a few, is still very low in comparison. I think it’s more a tick box than a genuine believe in putting on a woman’s fight for hitting a wide audience

And yet female footballers and boxers (among many other sports) are demanding equal pay to their male counterparts.
Commercially it simply doesn’t make sense….or as the woke virtue signallers will tell us ‘it’s toxic masculinity and the patriarchy holding the women back’

Hang on, are we allowed to call them women anymore?

Yeah I was aware of this but the US national team situation is slightly different and more complicated than the financials of domestic competition which is what I was referring to

As far as I’m aware no one is talking about equal pay across domestic sports

Fair comment but let’s have it right, if we paid them what they were worth commercially they’d be on less than the minimum wage yet evidently some players are on big bucks
