Fury-Wilder 3 does 600k US PPV buys

Fury vs Wilder 3 PPV buys fall well short of pre-fight goal

The domestic pay-per-view buys for Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder in the United States reportedly came in at just under 600,000.

The dust has officially settled on the trilogy between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder with Fury, after an epic contest last Saturday night, coming out on top after a decisive knockout in the eleventh round.

As you’d expect, there were some pretty high expectations for what this bout could achieve given everything they’ve gone through – but in the end, it fell short of the mark with just under 600,000 buys in the United States.

There was also said to be 300,000 overseas buys with a large chunk likely coming from the United Kingdom on BT Sport.

Bob Arum may wind up being disappointed with these figures given the fact that he thought it’d do far better than the rematch but either way, there’s a lot to be said for the PPV price of $79.99 and how much that may have thrown fans off the scent of buying it.

So the event has made $48m in US PPV revenue alone, excluding live gate receipts and income from overseas?

I realise that half the amount goes to cable providers, but the remaining $24m is more than enough to pay the purse guarantees and also the undercard.

Plus an additional $10½m from UK viewers that paid to watch the event via BT Sports.

I don’t think anyone truly expected the third bout to achieve similar commercial figures than the pre-COVID second fight.

I don’t know what to think.

I can understand the reason why some wouldn’t be impressed about those numbers, but they’ve exceeded my personal expectations, especially considering it was a bout that no one really wanted to see, since everyone was originally clamouring to watch Fury face Joshua instead.

I fully agree with you.

600k buys for me, that's decent numbers.

Considering no one really wanted the 3rd fight. Purses were also lower than the 2nd fight I believe..

The second one had much higher expectations.

It was a great undercard on paper. That is what compelled me to buy it. Ironic how it was the main event that was so terrific and the undercard was, well, underwhelming.

The undercard did end rather quick as well it seemed.. then we had a 30+ min wait before main event.

Exactly!
You know how much I was looking forward to the return of the all action, all face Kownacki
That didn't go well :verysad:
Then Efe and big Frank- I even had a flutter on (and won) turned out to be a lame duck vs a dolittle
Then the trilogy no one asked for was a bloody cracker!!
And yes this Kiwi paid for it and got his money worth, although it cost about 1/3 what they charged our American friends  $80 what a rip!

Sanchez against the effortless and clueless Ajagba wasn't much entertaining, but Helenius provided a decent beatdown of fat boi Adam.

You left off the 2 round beatdown by Anderson. Nothing new to see there. but that main event! Wow!

there wasnt nearly the same hype and advertising for this one and the promo time was short. the fight came about very quickly this time once it was clear 3 was happening due to the legal ruling

600k actually seems decent based on that, but of course it comes down to how much they paid out vs took in

Considering how easy Fury beat Wilder the second time I don't think too many people thought it would be worth buying. Nobody was interested in a rubber match, especially when most people got tired of hearing Wilder's excuses.

Everybody wanted the fight between Fury and Joshua but unfortunately between covid and the litigation, etc--- we got stuck with a fight nobody wanted and ended up getting a fight that was more exciting than expected.

And the price of the pay-per-view was pretty damn steep. My family and I bought it, but after that fight I can't complain about the price. I do think pay-per-views in this day and age ought to be no more than $30, $40, or $50.

Not mad at 600k. Boxing has to drop its price point if it wants to attract new fans.

Absolutely. 80 bucks is mental. I'm just glad that American fight fans who paid it got a fight that justified paying good money for.

I was in two minds whether to pay the £25: Firstly I was not expecting a competitive main event, then I was still furious at being deprived of undisputed, and wanting to protest with my wallet. On the otherhand I was excited by the stacked undercard and I was wavering.

As it turned out the decision was taken out of my hands, I wasn't going to pay once I already knew the result. I couldn't have got it more wrong: The main event exceeded all expectations and the undercard not so much.

You guys can make excuses, but those numbers are terrible. No one was talking about the third fight being unnecessary outside of boxing forums, and casuals DGAF what happens on here. All people knew was Wilder was a KO-artist, and he got "upset" by Fury in their second fight. If you want to get an idea of casual mindset, listen to how Brenden Schaub said he scored the fight for Wilder... or a draw (I forgot which).

The only thing that makes this good is that they gave the fans a show. Even saw Jimmy Dore talking about it on his stream and said it was the greatest fight he ever saw.

Anyways, they did a little over semi-retired Pacquiao fighting nobody (to casuals) Keith Thurman coming off a long layoff.

i guess it depends on how it stacks up to the payouts of course

but.....there was hardly any promotion on this that i saw. like, a fraction of the previous fights. the 2nd fight especially was just non stop in your face type promotion.

and the 3rd fight just crept up suddenly too. 600k seems okay given that. and considering the 2nd fight was a total one sided beatdown

Fight 2 sold more but was a dismal failure given the promotion, date of the fight, and guranteed money

I forgot the 3rd fight was happening until i saw a rbr thread but ive been fairly distracted lately so i thought maybe it was just me nd not a poor promotion
