Maloney Promotions Press Release
After nine years together Graham Earl and myself have parted company after being unable to agree terms for a new deal.
His contract expired with me on the 17th July, three days after he was due to fight for the European title which unfortunately didn't happen due to an injury received by the champion.
We have been unable to agree terms to extend our countract and Earl tells me he has been offered great terms by Sports Network to fight for a World title (WBU) and join their ever increasing stable.
We all understand that boxing is a risky business and boxers have to do what they feel is best for themselves, Many sportsmen think the grass looks greener on the other side, just ask some of the footballers who signed for mega rich Chelsea.
I wish Graham Earl all the best under his new promotional team.

Money talks.....be fair tho who ever fault it may have been Earls carreer has been full of up and downs and he has never really ever been looked after....Think earl has a few outside boxing interest that may occasionly take his mind off the job but seeing him train a few times with Eames i can see he is a modal pro when given the right fight that motivates him...all chinese whipers but its plain to see that at this stage in his career he cant afford to weight around for Maloney to keep giving him tough fights or meanigless eight rounders for shit dough (BURNS HONEY)
Good luck Earl...hope it works out

I do not call fighting for the EBU title a shit fight and for thr record burns and honey fighters were on sportsnetwork shows, Funny when i work at sportsnetwork and asked then to make Earl for the wbu title they said no, is funny now they can wait to make him for it i wonder why ?? But than the worlds biggest underpants title is far better the the ebu title only if you want an easey way to call your self a world champion, Yes i hope it works out for earl not a bad kid a little mixed up but who not in this world today. As may father saids the grass all ways looks greener on the other side ask danny hunt.big bad bill wrote:Money talks.....be fair tho who ever fault it may have been Earls carreer has been full of up and downs and he has never really ever been looked after....Think earl has a few outside boxing interest that may occasionly take his mind off the job but seeing him train a few times with Eames i can see he is a modal pro when given the right fight that motivates him...all chinese whipers but its plain to see that at this stage in his career he cant afford to weight around for Maloney to keep giving him tough fights or meanigless eight rounders for shit dough (BURNS HONEY)

Easy money? It's easy for us to sit here and say the WBU is shit. But if boxing is your bread and butter, and you're offered a lot of money for 3 defences a year of that bauble, what are you going to say?nickd wrote:Earl has made a mistake, why settle for the WBU when the EBU title would have put him in line for a crack at the WBC belt. Unless he doesn't fancy his chances in real world class that is? Can't think why anyone would choose that terrible title over the European.
Doesn't excuse it, of course, because the WBU is shite. But, whilst all of us who can be arsed enough to know that argue about it on here, how many people actually care? We're a minority.
yeah but have you ever heard the expressionstates wrote:Easy money? It's easy for us to sit here and say the WBU is shit. If so, then fair points, a lot of fighters these days aren't that arsed about world titles, so they see the WBU as a way to get a belt, get on TV and make money. The EBU route can take longer, look at how long Jr Witter's been waiting for his title shot to come around, despite being in the top 5 of all the sanctioning bodies for the last 2 years or more.
Boxing has always been about money, but there seem to be fewer and fewer fighters who are driven by a sense of pride in REAL achievements. That's why I have respect for people like Carl Froch, despite his big mouth and bravado, at least he seems determined to go after real belts against the best men in the division, although whether he is capable of doing so is another matter.
Boxing's changed for the worse in many respects, but it's a change happening across many sports where every decision is driven by money, and the majority of the participants are no longer interested in sportsmanship but only the almighty dollar.

Shame Earl's gone this way, even without a Euro title, he's rated No 7 in the WBC.

these shit belts really lower the profile of british fighters. stops the top brits from fighting each other. basic criticism i know. imagine if minter and finnegan fought today? would they have fought even once, never mind three times against each other? belts like the WBU really get in the way and help make the best brits quite 'faceless'. ppl like eubank, benn and watson were defined in combat with one another. the WBO gets a lot of stick (or used to) but at least in the 1990s the top fighters could find common ground.
what was it that Buncey said, 'lots of unknown guys fighting for worthless bling', or something like that? i confess i'm starting to like it when these quality african imports knck our guys off. there seems to be something more authentic abut guys like Asiku (pure class), Tunyai and Olusigan
