Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin | DAZN - October 16, 2021

I didn't even know this fight was today. Crazy that Miley got upset by a Euro level dude. As I said, most frustrating career of all time.
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin | DAZN - October 16, 2021
97-97 score to me gets that Ahole in the unemployment line. Impossible score unless you’re a crook. Get these idiots out of Boxing for once and for all.
Garcia won 3 rounds maximum. Max. There’s no other way it could have been scored. What a chump Garcia is. His career has been a head scratcher. Blah blah with the division belts…take a look at who Garcia defeated for them plus he lost belts on the scale. Overrated and this will clearly pull him down closer to where his legacy should really be.

@mexi-box there was no ego risk in losing to spence, health risk yes, but now ego risk as if he won he was david vs goliath if he lost no problem to legacy.
His psyche though never recovered from that fight, but his bank account did..

Jarvis/Frias - really good fight. Jarvis throws big with every shot but is pretty wide open. Seems tight at the weight but did well to make it through the second round after he was clearly hurt. All his work was on the inside and he’s too open to just do that. Needs to box more on the outside and combine it with the inside work to move on. Good learning fight for him and another Mexican ‘journeyman’ we’ve seen really bring it. Early stoppage, particularly after how Jarvis was in the second but I think the stoppage was coming.
Rodriguez/Burgos - good performance by Rodriguez. Excellent combination for the knockdown in the 4th and then didn’t rush the finish.
Gonzalez/Soto - thought Gonzalez deserved it although at times Gonzalez was making a big deal out of small issues. Soto just couldn’t cut off the ring well enough.
Castro/Luna - Not sure how Luna went the distance with Farmer. He was really poor, feet and head were stationary and barely threw a shot. Castro looked good though - picked his shots nicely.
Garcia/Martin - Garcia shouldn’t be fighting above 140. Looks soft in there, without power and not sharp at all. Martin looked good and boxed as well as he could. I’m surprised he got it - probably wouldn’t have if it had been in the U.K.

Very good scalp-win for Martin. He boxed very well. He was countering with crisp shots Garcia and evade from the ropes very well. Even on the ropes Martin was countering Garcia. Very good defense, ring movement&countering skills from Martin.
Inactivity is a bad, bad enemy for a fighter.

Haney doesn't want that smoke but they're probably trying to hype&build up a future "grudge" match.

Mikey taking a stay busy fight was the first clue that he was having trouble coming out of mothballs.

I think Jarvis is going to be in a lot of fan friendly fights.maverick23 wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 04:10 Jarvis/Frias - really good fight. Jarvis throws big with every shot but is pretty wide open. I thought Gonzalez deserved it too but it was tough.
There is a fine line between outright running and good ring movement. Gonzalez was on that line most of the night imo.
Ref should have taken two points from Soto for intentionally twisting Gonzalez arm. Gonzalez was playing it up but the foul happened and it was clearly intentional.
I hope Soto did not have a rematch clause, no need to see that again.
Garcia needs to move on from boxing. He's got plenty of talent and skill but he doesn't really want to be in that ring anymore. Martin had a great performance, got the upset thanks in part to Garcia turning in minimum effort.

Good job by Martin. Garcia is a one of the biggest wastes on the higher level. Inactivity after inactivily, effortlessly cashed out against Spence instead of Lomachenko in order to have a more 'respectable' loss. The fight wasn't MD-esque at all, Martin won it clearly. Side A got some biased judging again. Yet eventually everything turned out to be like it should have.

Inactivity and lack of desire/complacency. He's had some big purses. Not sure will get back to previous heights. Isn't he involved in property market and doing well?
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin | DAZN - October 16, 2021
He's also around his family who really loves to eat. That annoying dude that follows around the Garcia family clan was doing an interview at a restaurant. I think they were interviewing Brandon Rios who was going into a big fight. They were eating tons of greasy food and barely breathing between bites. I don't think Mikey follows a proper diet in the off-season, and add that to being completely disinterested in boxing, recipe for disaster.peter barlow wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 12:26 Inactivity and lack of desire/complacency. Ellie Seckbach the YouTube guy? Yeah and the likes of Brandon Rios loved to fight and throw hands. He was in some incredible fights. Mikey doesn't seem to have the same instinct.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 22:00He's also around his family who really loves to eat. Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin | DAZN - October 16, 2021
Mikey was good/could have been great south of 140, he just doesn't have the frame to move up to the higher weight classes. This really isn't a shock to me at all. A undersized, blown up lightweight who's inactive to boot fighting guys 2 weight classes outside his best weight. He barely scraped by Jesse Vargas FFS. What a waste of a potentially great career.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin | DAZN - October 16, 2021
Mikey Garcia’s time being considered a top-tier world-rated talent is essentially over.
Here’s what I wrote back in July:
Mikey’s lack of professionalism and discipline not only cost him a massive payday against Regis Prograis, but it also resulted in him needlessly suffering an upset loss.
Now he has to rebuild, which isn’t easy to do at his age, hence the reason why I feel his career is essentially over.
As for Sandor Martin, I’m not sure what to think about him at this point in time…
I suspect Mikey “lost the fight”, rather than Sandor “winning it”, if you know what I mean.
Here’s what I wrote back in July:
Mikey obviously couldn’t make the 140lbs limit against his super-lightweight opponent, hence the seemingly undisclosed 144lbs catchweight stipulation.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Jul 2021, 03:50Mikey hasn't "grown" into the weight in a sporting manner. He's currently carrying some excess timber, hence his hamster cheeks. He's in his mid-thirties and he'll struggle to lose a lot of weight at his age.
Not campaigning below 147lbs for three years is a lot of time.
