I think fight 1 is getting as mythical as Fury vs Klitchsko in that people think it was a clinic by Ruiz - fact is, it was about 2 seconds away from being AJ's dream US debut with pretty "perfect" display and we would all be slagging off Hearn for bringing in a fat late replacement who beat nobody as a pro.
AJ apparently used the ‘Froch vs Abraham’ blueprint in the rematch, but it was nothing like.
He was so terrified it was worrying.
AJ was saved by the bell against Usyk too. He is finished now. Shades of David Price coming into his psyche.

On the flip side, 41 year old Klitschko let him off the hook, Whyte hurt him badly, 39 year old Povetkin hurt him early and some refs might have disqualified him earlier in his career for punching opponents on the floor.stujones wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 17:48

I think it started with him totally punching himself out against Wlad.

I think that was half the problem, he wasn't giving him anythingFrostieballs wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 18:26 His best bet would be to just listen to McCracken and not everybody else in his corner.

At the end of the 10th he said "Jab. Jab. Then step to the side."Weirdyman wrote: ↑18 Oct 2021, 07:23I think that was half the problem, he wasn't giving him anythingFrostieballs wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 18:26 His best bet would be to just listen to McCracken and not everybody else in his corner.
That was McCracken not "other voices".
Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
Reynoso would be interesting for him to work with. Hunter not so much, he seems like somebody who will overcomplicate things which is probably the last thing Joshua needs right now.

Agree think Reynoso would be a better fit. Hearn would like it too, anything to get him closer to Canelo lol

There are a lot of shouts being attributed to McCracken that weren’t him, but from other less experienced team members.BigDoofus wrote: ↑18 Oct 2021, 07:40At the end of the 10th he said "Jab. Jab. I didn’t hear this exchange, but he was probably fed up of trying to get his message across.

are there? pretty sure we'd identified the dude responsible for the endless 'brilliant boxing AJ*' shouts during the rounds as that Joby lad from Wolverhampton.Frostieballs wrote: ↑18 Oct 2021, 10:21There are a lot of shouts being attributed to McCracken that weren’t him, but from other less experienced team members.
* gets more cringe every time i hear it. He goes mental over Joshua, like, successfully taking a step out of range....
Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
It was clearly McCracken's words at the end of the 10th. No urgency and seemingly wanting Joshua to stay out of harm's way. Perhaps he knew that if Joshua was more aggressive he wouldn't have made the final bell?Frostieballs wrote: ↑18 Oct 2021, 10:21There are a lot of shouts being attributed to McCracken that weren’t him, but from other less experienced team members.

McCracken was saying something at the every round I heard, it’s just it was always the same cautious simple advice. Never anything about stepping it up or changing the game plan- to hear him talk you’d think it had all gone according to plan.

The problem is, Usyk can probably win utilising two or three approaches.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 22:42totally agree, aj fought stupid, got wild after hurting ruiz, and then once he was hurt it changed everything. it wasnt ruiz putting on some masterclass from start to finish. aj won the first 2 and then had ruiz down in the 3rd. its why it was easy for me to pick aj in the rematch, as long as he kept it long and measured he was always going to have far too much for ruizstujones wrote: ↑17 Oct 2021, 17:48Add also the fact that in fight 1, Joshua for the first 2 and bit rounds was boxing well vs Ruiz - it wasn't a punch from the gods I know, but clearly the worst thing Joshua did was hurt Ruiz. but vs usyk, usyk really had him from the start, aside from a few of the middle rounds, aj was controlled, outboxed, and by the end even getting a bit of a beating
usyk is someone who has shown elite boxing and discipline his whole career, and as an amateur and wsb fighter too. and the ability to adapt to opponents on the go. ruiz on the other hand doesnt have a single impressive win vs anyone of note, outside the aj fight, and entering that was known mostly for fighting uninspired and out of shape
reversing the result vs usyk is going to be a much tougher challenge than the ruiz 2 was

Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
I don't know whether Joshua can win without the confidence installed by someone shouting " brilliant boxing! Brilliant AJ!" Every 10 seconds
He needs to keep that guy.
Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
I think by then they were trying to just get him to the finish line. Can't remember where it was reported but AJ apparently freaked out at the end of the 9th about his eyeBigDoofus wrote: ↑18 Oct 2021, 11:20It was clearly McCracken's words at the end of the 10th. I heard that too, and was yelling from the comfort of my couch:
"Just let your bloody hands go you pussy !!"
I was pretty into it

I think Sugarhill would be a good coach for AJ, maximise his assets as a mid-range boxer-puncher. Bit of a conflict issue though..

better fighter than ruiz, much better conditioning and discipline.....gonna be a much tougher loss to avenge for aj

Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
I can’t imagine any trainer will fix Joshua. He seems broken. But I guess Wlad did it…… but I do think Joshua’s got it in him
Re: AJ Scouting Out New Trainers?
Where does Joshua go if he loses the rematch? Much would depend on the type of loss but he would very much be on the outside.
A new trainer would certainly help imo but only with the right person. AJ is dedicated and professional If nothing else. Shame he can’t get Sugar Hill training him because he needs to get back to using his physicality and strength.
