WBC Franchise to show on Saul Canelo Alvarez and Teofimo Lopez

Post by 576823 »

Why isn’t the franchise title on either fighters’ records when the WBC president has declared the WBC Franchise title as the supreme belt of the organization? Please update this accordingly.

Plus, BoxRec decided not to put the Franchise title into our titles list. It may be won and defended, but in that case, you will find it in the fight's wiki entry. :TU:

Teofimo is still the WBC Franchise champion. Why wouldn’t you guys put the Franchise title into the titles list? That is completely discrediting someone that has the prestige belt in a major organization. If I earned something and put my health at risk, I’d be mad if someone didn’t acknowledge my accomplishment. There are videos and press out there where the WBC president calls Teofimo the supreme champion and undisputed. You guys did it for the WBA Super title, so why not for the franchise title?

I do not know, that was not my decision. Plus, the WBC's October rankings from two days ago do NOT show Téofimo López as Franchise champion anymore...

Who could I write to about this? It’s stirring up a lot of controversy because Boxrec isn’t acknowledging it, which isn’t right. It has gotten so out of hand that there are racial narratives thrown out there and it could easily be resolved by Boxrec acknowledging the Franchise championship, which is the supreme belt of the organization. I don’t know where you’re getting your rankings from, but there’s videos that recently came out last week where Mauricio Sulaiman of the WBC says Teofimo is their champion. It’s also on the WBC website.

The WBC Franchise belt should be ignored by every self respecting boxing fan and I applaud Boxrec for doing so.

Why should it be ignored? They elevated the previous WBC champion. They don’t just hand out the belt unless you had the regular WBC title. They created the belt so that fighters with multiple belts can manage them better and go for undisputed without mandatory interruptions. Imagine having a mandatory for 4 sanctioning bodies? Imagine not being able to go for the missing belt you needed to become undisputed because of a mandatory? That’s the problem that the franchise title resolves. Also, a fighter can jump up and down in weight without getting stripped of the title. Remember Sergio Martinez? He had the 154 and 160 title and the WBC only let him keep one so he had to vacate. That’s another problem that the franchise title resolves. If Martinez had the franchise title, he wouldn’t lose his championship in either weight class.

If you go to the WBC's website and download the rankings, you'll see that Teofimo Lopez is still the Franchise champion at 135. You'll also see that he's also listed as such when you go directly to the rankings for the lightweight division.

Who do we go to about resolving this on Boxrec? They acknowledge the WBC Super and WBC Diamond Belt - Teofimo also holds the WBC Super, which is why he has two belts.

There's no WBC Super title unless you're referring to the Franchise title. The WBA has Super World titles and the WBO awards "Super Champion" status (that's not a title that is defended).

Exactly. Oh, and I just saw that the WBC added López as Franchise champion again in their October rankings. They must have forgotten him the first time around. :TU:

So how do we get that fixed? Even DAZN has Teofimo as undisputed and as WBC supreme champion.
