This would have been interesting. Tunney had great foot movement, but overall Johnson was a shade better. almost certainly would have went the distance. Would go with Johnson by decision in a competitive, high quality fight.

Hmm... Gene was faster, and in my view had just as good a resume if not slightly better than Johnson. P4P better than Johnson.

Somehow I think it would be a very dull and boring tactical battle with Tunney not getting psyched out by Johnson's mouth, and probably ends up being a draw or 15 round split decision, where the punch rate is so incredibly low that it's difficult to gauge.

I'm going with Gene Tunney. Johnson is one of those people in heavyweight history who has taken on mythic proportions, when the vast majority of his wins were against men who were well passed their best or were much smaller than him or were simply too limited.

Don't get me wrong he was good especially for his time, but everything Jack Johnson knew Gene Tunney also knew and looked far better doing it too.

Tunney was much better than Johnson. Faster, more agile, more technical, polished and elusive, with a better chin. He would move around Johnson, outbox him behind the jab and combinations.

Tunney by wide dec.

Two great boxers would have a war of chess, but Tunney would out-box and out-counter Johnson with sharper jabs and combinations to take a decision.
