Lol, she’s like Rapinoe, doesn’t understand what commercial value actually means.

I think Natasha Jonas comes across more like what most female athletes will be thinking on this though. It’s blatantly obvious in some sports the interest is lacking and I reckon many of them are secretly just happy they can get paid at all

CaptainSpacerod wrote: 13 Oct 2021, 17:33 Thank God I can still find some sanity here on the good old boxrec forum. Several years ago I remember a line from one of my favourite journalists Rod Liddle when he talked of “the feminisation of bbc sport”. Everywhere you look there’s a blonde presenter or a female pundit or a screeching female commentator.

Now not only do we get these over promoted under skilled women on the presenting side we get women’s sport foisted on us. There’s a reason why for example my team Man City average 50k crowds each week while our women’s team are lucky to draw 1000 people in yet the broadcasters chuck vast sums at them to secure the rights to the womens game. Why ?

And womens boxing, Jesus where do I start. There’s something not quite right about seeing girls punch each other in the face. Add to that the fact that you’ve never heard of most of them and that the vast majority are way less skilled than any amateur in any abc up and down the country and it makes me seethe to think this rubbish is being shoved down my face by virtue signalling ppv broadcasters.

Give em their own channel, let them sink or swim by their own popularity and give us back our fight cards
better get used to it as its not going back in the bottle !

lol other than tennis, nobody gives a flying fornicate about women's sports, and especially women's boxing which is a joke.

The number 4 heavyweight has an 8-8-3 record ....

The 10th best middleweight is 1-10-1

The main thing in womens sports is women don't support other women. It's men funding just about all of womens sport.
Then they complain about men.

Women also sell f all tickets and get a pass and preferential treatment. Male fighters that don't sell tickets get treated like dog shit unless they are world level and even then sometimes.

Just looked at the women's middleweight rankings, there is no WBO rankings for the belt Marshall has? So she is a champion with no top 10 in WBO.

And in the other orgs there is only 4 or 5 women ranked at MW. Presumably because the depth is so low they can't even rank 10 fighters?

I mean when is someone of note going to call this shit for what it is. A combined virtual signalling con job + pandering by the woke broadcasters.

Are we just a bunch of sexist dinosaurs? No I don't think so, we are just calling out the nonsense being sold by boxing promoters.

Right. If the quality was there we wouldn't mind. As it is people just watch women's boxing to see Shannon Courtneny get beaten up.

Don't think I've ever seen Chantelle Cameron fight. Now Whyte has pulled out it looks like I'm not going to either.

no serious amateur accomplishments, not particularly good, not particularly good looking, not very likable or articulate .......yet an entire career from the start being pushed and supported on tv by a major promoter and now getting these celebrity show appearances.

does she have some sort of evidence on ppl or something lol, she's living an absolute dream. you hear the horror stories of the talented guys never making it due to promotional issues, then you get shannon courtney at the other end.

They probably signed her up when she was world champ. She turned pro at the perfect time when there were few female boxers on televised shows and she got a serious rub from it.

Somebody in boxing is eventually going to step up and tell people women's boxing is total garbage and has no business being on PPV cards with men. It's a gimmick designed to appease the woke masses.
Its certainly a gimmick, and cheap filler which is why Hearn is pushing out this crap. The old wise guys allegedly, Arum etc know there is no interest or depth so don't have anything to do with it.

Its the younger promoters trying to appear progressive. But it doesn't do tickets or views yet gets pushed hard.
Hearn and Sky think theyre being smart but how long until calls for equal pay, demands for women commentators etc
There should not be ANY calls for equal pay for female commentators because they should be treated the same as men .If they can do a job as well as a man or their knowledge, experience and popularity is equal or better then then they should be paid accordingly imo

It's a big step forward, that some promoters have decided to set women's fights on top of the cards.
Why? Why not?!!!
We are serious boxers and good fighters too. Not only pretty decoration.
Our fights may increase the attractivity of such events.
So, why banish us to our own channel?

By the way, the Marshall vs Muzeya fight was short but intensive. I'm already very excited to the Marshall vs Shields event.

Jesus, where do I start ...
First of all, your post is a self-fulfilling prophecy. You are not interested in women's boxing so, you don't know female boxers.
I'm not interested in cricket - so I don't know any cricket player. But regardless, more than one billion people are crazy about cricket.
What I mean is, give us a chance - even when you won't like to see women punch each other in the face.
Don't worry, we can stand it.

At one topic I agree with you. Some bouts are one sided fights.
But this is not a problem of us women.
It's a problem in pro boxing in general, that a lot of bouts are one sided - talented fighter against less skilled.
Such fights are only to create an impressive fight record for the more talented.
Nobody want's to see such a slaughter. Not between women and not between men.

Recent boxing superstars like Claressa Shields, Seneisa Estrada, Mikela Meyer, and Katie Taylor have shown the boxing world that you don’t have to wait on the men’s division to finally decide when they want to fight each other to see good fights. Women’s boxing has all the good fights to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Yeah. Now ALL of Boxing is a Fringe Sport that most of the public don't want to see.
