bruh, ppl were plenty disappointed when aj activated the rematch clause,, it even triggered a thread saying they should be banned and most people agreed. aj triggered the rematch clause because he lost and needs to win to re establish himself, utterly bizarre to think he did it to spite fury, do you realize how weird that sounds? you need to put down that fury outrage koolaid for a second mate

start a poll on what fight ppl want to see more, usyk-fury or aj-fury 2, guarantee you it would be usyk-fury

It's interesting in retrospect people's views on the first fight, which I think have been affected by the Fury/Wilder classic.

I enjoyed the fight. Good spectacle, utter expose of Joshua and a display of just why Usyk is so good. But at the same time, Joshua had a couple of rounds of success and there was the expectation that he would do something at some point (which turned out to be to gas and almost get stopped). .

But other people I've spoken to have said just how dull the fight was and compared Joshua's performance with Wilder's.

I'll take the rematch. I'll take each of the top guys fighting each other twice a year.

Looks to be March 22

“I think March is realistic, yeah March, around March,” Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn told IFL. “It’s a huge fight and there will be a lot of people wanting to stage it, but I would like to do it back in the UK.”

“Team Usyk is very happy to take the rematch. They’re going to make a huge amount of money and they believe they’re going to win the fight. For AJ, there is no other fight. He’s seen comments from people,” said Hearn.

“‘Step aside this, step aside that. Absolutely not in a million years. He’s fit, and while he’s fit, strong and focused as he is, there’s only one fight [Usyk] that he has his mind on.”

Anyone know the rematch splits/ pay situation? im guessing 50-50, but i wouldent know, seeing as usyk didnt have to give them the rematch clause mabey he gets the big slice, but i think AJ would of just not fought usyk if he negotiated too hard, so mabey AJ still has the big split still. In summery i have zero clue.

The last pointless rematch turned out to be a Classic For The Ages.
There is some point to this rematch. Or, it's less pointless at least.

Not quite true, Spud. Loads on here had him winning. I remember my good friend from hull said he travelled back from Latvia with you after watching Usyk. He's doing good things in the pros and ams now.

Nobody doubted he was a class act, the question was whether or not the skill gap would be enough to bridge the size and power gap between him and Joshua.

It will likely be in the UK, and Usyk will be happy because he makes more money that way. Joshua will still be the A side financially, but not by a huge amount.

Hearn Throws Cold Water at Talk of Joshua Stepping Aside To Allow Fury-Usyk

Eddie Hearn, promoter for heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua, says there is no chance that his boxer will step aside from a planned rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Back in September, Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA titles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In the aftermath, Joshua exercised an immediate rematch clash - with the second fight targeted for the first quarter of 2022.

However, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury would like Joshua to step aside in order to allow a full division unification with Fury.

In a recent interview, Joshua mentioned that he might be wiling to step aside - “if it made sense for business”.

But, Hearn indicates that there is no possibility of that happening, with Joshua 100% moving forward with the second fight.

"I don’t think that’s a consideration,” Hearn told IFL TV when asked about Joshua’s comments. “I think at some point if an offer was presented to someone that would be a situation where it would be difficult to not discuss Joshua stepping aside.

"At the moment, the only focus is on the rematch. Anthony Joshua wants to fight Oleksandr Usyk. Until that is presented to him, and it hasn’t been presented to him in terms of stepping aside, that’s all the focus is. I haven’t seen the interview, but speaking to him, all he wants to do is rematch Oleksandr Usyk."

Fury saw action in October, when he overcame two knockdowns to score a sensation knockout of Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round of their trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The next fight for the 'Gypsy King' will likely take place in the early part of 2022 - with dates in late February and early March being explored.

Question..

When a boxer takes a step aside fee... Does the boxer give a cut to their trainers/manager/promoters?

I take it they don't, but I don't know.

Well, they're not training or boxing so no. Manager, yes. And I do understand AJ on this. Wharton got £50,000 for stepping aside for Benn. He thought it was Christmas. Its money for nothing.

Yeh, Eleider Alvarez received like 2-3 step aside's from Adonis Stevenson..

Must have received more money in step asides than he did for fights he DID take in that time.

surely it would make sense business wise to step aside as long as hes guaranteed next shot at the winner for all the belts? Millions not to have a fight and then fight the winner, highly likely to be Fury IMO which would absolutely pay fortune more than an immediate rematch with Usyk

If Usyk beats him up again, which there's a big chance of, he won't have anything to go to the table with against Tyson. Half of the casuals have already switched.

Or what about if Josh came back agasint a stiff, get his confidence back, then fight Tyson?

The mirror have run a story saying AJ might be willing to step aside but would want at least £40m! He best just get training for his rematch then as there is no fornicating way that is happening.
