As for those guys who perceive him as being closer to 5'9" or 5'10", then there must be some rational explanation to the contrary. But I don't know what to say.
Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
This is a terrible way to be at the best of times but when you also have lethal fists it's so much worse
Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
Minter had to be restrained from attacking Hagler at the W.B.C. convention in Spain back in the mid 90's. Of course, he was very drunk.

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
I wonder ,how tall did Carlos Monzon look standing next to his opponents ?
Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
boxstat.com has Monzon listed at 5'9.4" and Minter at 5'7.4". I'd love to know their sources for fighters' heights because they list guys at very exact heights and, in most cases, much shorter than any listed heights that I've ever seen.

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
there was another minter height thread at another forum
a couple posters say they met him........one dude says minty was about 5'10, and another who is 5'8 said mints wasnt much taller than him. tons of athletes have inflated height listings, it could just be that minter really is around 5'10 and his opponents were mostly shorter than listed, hence a bigger height difference than the listings alone would suggest

Can be difficult judging heights. Some people slouch and others stand up straight. Some wear thick heels so look taller. Mike Tyson wears really thick trainers. Minters son is on social media, why not send his son a message and ask?

"How tall in standing is..."
Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
I watched the fight yet again last night and Minter was simply pummeled and overwhelmedJoe.Kelly wrote: ↑26 Oct 2021, 10:41I remember reading about that. Alan certainly had his demons when it came to the bottle. On top of that, Minter may have nursed a grudge against Hagler because of alleged head butting in their 1980 London tiff. Immediately after the fight, Minter claimed that Hagler would "head butt" him and then "punch in the same spot where the butt" occurred. You can find this interview with Minter on Youtube. It takes place in the dressing room after the fight.
And if he tried attacking Hagler in the 90's it speaks volumes for Hagler as he still paid his respects when Minter died

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
Joe.Kelly wrote: ↑28 Oct 2021, 12:39No it's not. That's because Boxrec needs to have accurate information about fighters' heights. Right now, there's reason to believe that Boxrec's profile on Minter lists the wrong height (5'9").
Boxrec has replaced the Ring Record Book as the penultimate, most trustworthy source of fighters' records and other key information, such as stance, height, weight, and reach. Therefore, Boxrec should strive to maintain the highest possible standards of accuracy.
As for Ross Minter, I'm not going to contact him on social media. But if anyone else can do it, I suggest they go ahead.
It’s terrible that Boxrec may be out by an inch, prospective opponents could be undone by the extra inch height. Hell mend them if they get the reach wrong

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
my guess from looking at the photographs and various video's.
Alan Minter was approx. 5 ft 10 and one-quarter inch tall (in his socks).

minter's stirring in his 5'10 grave about this injustice of a 5'9 listing

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
When you get a license you have a medical and it seems those stats are used for boxrec.
Some of those measurements could have been wrong and also if you went pro as a teenager you could have grown a bit too!

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
I don't believe boxrec goes round measuring boxers!
The only time I got measured was in my medical, and that height then magically appeared in the yearbook and boxrec
