Joe Joyce is Awaiting Ruling From WBO, Says allegedly

Hall of Fame promoter, Frank W, says they are waiting on a decision from the WBO before deciding Joe Joyce’s next move.

Warren announced on social media in July that Joyce became the WBO mandatory challenger and is on course for his maiden world heavyweight title shot.

Unified world champion Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the WBO belt as well as the IBO, WBA ‘Super’ and IBF titles, is set to rematch Anthony Joshua next year after dethroning the Brit in September.

Usyk was the WBO's mandatory challenger at the time of the first encounter - which indicates that at some point the sanctioning body will order the winner of the second bout to face Joyce in 2022.

The rematch is being positioned for a date in the month of March, according to Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom.

Warren says the winner will face the ‘Juggernaut’.

“We’re waiting for the WBO to decide what they’re going to do regarding their mandatory for [Oleksandr] Usyk,” Warren told Pro Boxing Fans.

“They’ll probably allow Usyk another fight in between. They’ve called for a rematch with AJ. But the winner of that will have to fight [Joyce].”

The 36-year-old has not fought since a 6th round TKO victory over Carlos Takam in July.

Asked if the Londoner would fight in the interim, Warren replied: “We’ve got to wait to see what they say.

“Then when we know what they say we can then make our decision.”

There shouldn't really be such a thing as a automatic rematch. Not even if the fights a draw. If the champion loses, tough titty get back in the queue. Of course these days rematches generally make a lot of money for ALL concerned so it's hardly surprising commissioning bodies allow it.

The WBO mandatory has just been dealt with so I’m not sure what Frank is waiting to find out.

If the belts stay together then the WBA will have their mandatory, IBF and then the WBO again.

Joe’s not getting any younger and there’s no reason at all for him to have only fought once this year - bit of a joke really.

I think when a world title fight is a draw the sanctioning body should order it again. Cant earn your title shot, be equal to the champ and join the back of the que.

I think Joyce has a better chance in the Pros, although I still think he'd be up against it, seeing that Usyk handled Joshua with relative ease.

I'm sure Joyce would employ different tactics to Joshua, but think Usyk's good enough to adapt.

I agree that Usyk easily outboxes Slow-Joe, as would Fury. Although I feel Slow-Joe`s persistent plod forward would wear Joshua down - styles etc.

I think if it’s the AJ who fought Usyk then you may be right but I think a more aggressive AJ would take Joe out. Joe’s defence was decent against Dubois put awful in other fights (particularly his last one against Takam) and if AJ’s landing decent shots on him then I think he takes him out.

Could be a long wait as Joshua only just fulfilled his mandatory obligation vs Usyk and Joyce has not long been installed mandatory (well it was after Usyk fought Joshua) - surely there will be the WBA and IBF next.

Indeed and Joyce is 37 next year. Not sure what FW game is here, Joe Joyce has very limited time now to make any impact he needs to fight regularly until retirement.

If the plan is just sit around and cash out in 2 years then it's hard to get behind it.

Anyone know is Sam Jones gone from Joyce's manager now he's with Probellum?

Yeah - he’s gone. Joyce is managed by S-Jam which Sam is no longer a part of. They seemed to get on well though so I’m sure he’ll still be giving him his thoughts on things.

This is where we are at, Joyce in a holding pattern. How long for?
Well Uysk waited a few years after stepping up as a cruiser champ to the #1 spot for his chance, Dillian Whyte is still waiting on his shot after how many years?
Joyce is 36, he should get as many fights and paydays in as he can. Waiting on a proper belt is a fools errand. Just because your mandatory means very little in the world of rematchs and unifications and random challengers.

It seems a very very risky strategy. Joyce could easily piss away what's left of his career, he will already be deteriorating physically at this point.

No point sitting on the sidelines waiting for a shot, if nothing else, he should be having keep busy fights to keep focused and in fighting shape, and to build more of a case for a title shot.

If he's pulling in punters, he's more likely to get a shot at the title.

It's the money aspect too - at 36 he can't afford financially waiting around.
I'd be looking for paydays rather than title shots, because as said, they can take a very long time to come around.

True James, I hadn't thought of that.
The challenger needs to bring punters in as well for the big payday. No point sitting on the bench waiting when you can go out and raise your profile and earn £££ as well.

There's a lot of fighters out there Joyce could turn in a good performance against, he absolutely ruined Dubois, so he's operating at a high level, get him in with some crude pressure come forward types who will give him some highlight reels to excite the punters.
