The Fightzone cameras head North of the Border on November 12 on what promises to be a top evening of ‘small hall’ boxing.
Headlining at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom will be exciting Scottish prospect, Dean Sutherland, who will be looking to move to 12-0 against Italy’s Michele Esposito. The pair will square up for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver Welterweight Title, which has previously been held by notable British fighters including Sam Eggington and Michael McKinson.
Sutherland, 23, from Aberdeen, lived up to his hot prospect tag last time out in July, stopping Mexican fighter Jose Antonio Delgado Velazquez in seven exciting rounds. Velazquez came to the UK with a promising record having lost just once in 11 fights, but was no match for the accurate, heavy hands of Sutherland, who eventually wore his man down.
Esposito will prove another decent yardstick for the local fighter. Far more experienced, the 35-year-old has lost just four times in 23 outings and is a former Italian welterweight champion. Ahead of the show, promoter Sam Kynoch is predicting another eye-opening performance but says that Sutherland needs to be on his game or he could suffer an upset.
Also appearing on the bill will be Macduff’s Billy Stuart, 10-1 (3). The super bantamweight suffered his first loss fighting on the same July show as Sutherland’s victory over Velazquez, coming unstuck against another Mexican import Alejandro Jair Gonzalez. Billy will get another runout on this Aberdeen card, with Kynoch still predicting a bright future for the 23-year-old.
“This is Fightzone’s first visit to Aberdeen, and it’s a homecoming for Dean Sutherland who’s from there. Dean’s Italian opponent is really solid. I’ve watched him, he’s aggressive, and is a 35-year-old man, so he knows his way around the ring. Dean stopped his last opponent, but I think he’ll do well to stop this guy. This Italian will ask questions of him and be a great opponent for his development. It’s a terrific one for the fans because it’s a proper live fight. Esposito is not a guy to take lightly in any way, shape or form.
“We’ll ease Billy [Stuart] back in on this show to get him going again. He showed a lot in that last fight in terms of his durability. His style was perfectly suited for the Mexican and it made for a great fight with a lot of fireworks. We’ll get him back to winning ways, we want someone lively for him to get his confidence back. He was asked a lot of questions in that last fight and some of the shots he was hit with, lesser fighters wouldn’t had withstood them. He was rocked to his core at times, but rallied back and showed serious guts. I think Gonzalez will go on to some serious success and it will put Billy’s loss into context.
“We’ve also got Callen McAulay on the show. He’s trained in my gym and appeared on my promotions before. The fans will enjoy seeing him, he’s got a really good skillset.”
Kynoch Promotions in association with Fight Academy present a top evening of boxing at the Aberdeen Beach Ballroom on November 12. Also appearing will be Renfrew’s Callen McAulay; Macduff’s Billy Stuart; Nairn’s Luca Micheletti, Edward Donovan from Limerick and Kelty’s Craig Morgan.
