All tale of the tapes are made up and most measurements are exaggerated.

Does that mean we don't have to talk about measurements and weight ever again?
We could then talk about stuff that we used to, like speed, power, jab, left hook, chin, defense, etc. You know, stuff that actually matters.

yeah, I remember reading in Joe Frazier's own autobiography where he gave his reach,
but it was not the one listed on boxrec.
They said there's was the "official" reach.

Re: Who here met Alan Minter in person?
maybe boxrec wont change it to 5'11.5 because they saw that none of the people who met minter on this forum and others thought he was as tall as youre suggesting. this is several people now, not just one guy, and they all say pretty much the same thing
it's stuff like 'a couple inches under 6 feet', 'im 5'8 and he was barely taller than me' etc

There was a similar discussion about this on another forum, some said he was a lot little taller than 5'8" and others who met him guessed he was between 5'10" to 6'0"
People can be bad at judging heights though

He was quite tall for the weight from what I remember, maybe just over 6’0”
I think Minter was around 5’10” maybe a tad over
Bennie how tall you reckon Cable and Minter were?
.

I don't think it matters when the guys fought. Have seen saying that on this forum for since the early 2000's.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 16:09or the ultimate trump card.........the era when the guy fought and whether he is still activeAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 16:04 Does that mean we don't have to talk about measurements and weight ever again?

Sometimes a guy from long ago was better than someone recent' sometimes not. Sometimes guys who fought way before my time was better, sometimes not.
I wish everyone was like that. That is the way the Boxing History Forum (formerly Boxers of the Past) used to be.
In the last few years, we now have a lot of people that think the sport began the day you became interested in it. They just come on the Boxing History Forum to shit on the old timers. They really don't care about Boxing History before they became interested in boxing.

Nothing wrong about being factually correct. We just need to stop being so obsessed about the tape measure and the scale.Joe.Kelly wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 16:18What's the big deal about striving for accuracy in stats such as height and reach? In cases where Boxrec is egregiously wrong about a fighter's height and weight, patrons of this board should raise the issue. Nothing obnoxious or anal about that.

Cable was just over six foot tall at 6ft and half an inch. Minter was always tall for a middleweight at 5ft 11ins.

Didn't mean specifically on this thread.Joe.Kelly wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 16:24Arguing about a difference between 5'9" and 5'11" is not "getting obsessed." Curiously, why are posting on this thread if you find it to be ridiculous and "obsessive?"
