Jake Paul to fight fellow undefeated boxer Tommy Fury on Dec. 18 in Tampa

One of the knocks on Jake Paul has been that he has not fought a "real boxer." That criticism will be mostly addressed at the end of this year.

Paul, the YouTube-star-turned-prizefighter, will fight fellow undefeated boxer Tommy Fury on Dec. 18 in Tampa, Florida, it was officially announced Friday. The bout will be contested at 192 pounds and is contracted for eight, three-minute rounds.

Fury, 22, is the half-brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson and is 7-0 in pro boxing.

Paul, 24, rose to fame on the back of online content creation and has parlayed it into the fight game, where he holds a 4-0 record as a pro boxer. He's one of the world's most popular social media influencers. Fury, meanwhile, is a celebrity in the UK due to his appearance on the reality show "Love Island."

Last month, Tyson Fury joked in an interview with Boxing Social that if Tommy lost to Paul he should change his name. Paul then proposed a wager: If Paul beats Tommy Fury, then Tommy will have to change his name temporarily from "Tommy Fury" to "Tommy Fumbles." If Tommy wins, Paul will give him an extra $500,000 of Paul's fight purse.

On Friday, Paul told ESPN that Tommy Fury agreed to the name-change wager rather than a straight-up money bet.

"I offered Fury to change his name to Tommy Fumbles or put up $500,000 of his purse if he loses," Paul said. "He chose to agree to change his name. Guess he puts more value on money then he does his own family name. Maybe he knows his family is disowning him once he loses, so money and [Tommy's girlfriend and UK TV personality] Molly [Mae-Hague] is all he's going to have left."

Amanda Serrano, ESPN's No. 3-ranked female boxer in the world, will compete in the co-main event on the Paul vs. Fury card, sources said. Her opponent has not been set. Serrano, who is promoted by Paul's Most Valuable Promotions, sports a 41-1-1 record with 30 knockouts.

Paul is coming off a split decision win over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley on Aug. 29 in Cleveland. This will be Paul's third fight this year. He knocked out Ben Askren, a former Bellator and ONE champion and UFC veteran, in the first round back in April. Paul also owns knockout wins over NBA veteran Nate Robinson and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.

Fury fought on the Paul vs. Woodley undercard, defeating Paul sparring partner Anthony Taylor by unanimous decision. He has stopped four of seven opponents by knockout. This will be Fury's first fight going past four rounds.

Paul vs. Fury will be promoted by Paul's Most Valuable Promotions with Showtime Sports and in association with Tony Holden Productions.

Press Release

International superstar Jake “The Problem Child” Paul will face undefeated professional boxer and U.K. reality TV star Tommy “TNT” Fury in a sanctioned eight-round cruiserweight bout after months of heated back-and-forth between the two men. Paul and Fury will headline a SHOWTIME PPV event on Saturday, December 18 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The main event bout will be contested at a 192-pound catchweight, as Paul continues to challenge himself and deliver on his promise to disrupt the combat sports industry.

On the heels of an impressive performance against former mixed martial arts world champion Tyron Woodley in August, Paul looks forward to his fifth professional boxing match as he takes a sizable step up in competition and puts his undefeated record on the line. Paul, the social media sensation, has garnered unprecedented attention for a young boxer since he entered the ring against NBA star Nate Robinson and defeated him with a show-stopping knockout that made headlines around the world. Paul is now taking the next step in his young career as he goes after Love Island reality TV star Fury, the younger brother of WBC Heavyweight World Champion Tyson Fury.

Paul and Fury will meet for the first time since their fight was announced on Saturday, November 6 in Las Vegas and will make an additional appearance in Tampa on Monday, November 8. More details on both events to follow.

Titled #PaulFury: One Will Fall, the event is produced and presented by Most Valuable Promotions and SHOWTIME PPV and promoted in association with Tony Holden Productions. The pay-per-view telecast begins live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and is produced and distributed by SHOWTIME PPV and it will feature other exciting high-stakes, professional boxing matches which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for the live event will be available for purchase on Wednesday, November 10, at www.amaliearena.com.

The 24-year-old Paul (4-0, 3 KOs) is a world-renowned content creator. He began his professional boxing journey in January 2020 and has proven to be an influential participant in the sport’s landscape with his outsized personality and quickly developing skill set. The Cleveland-native is fighting out of Puerto Rico under the eye of former boxing cruiserweight contender and world title challenger B.J. Flores, who has been training Paul from his first professional fight. After knocking out British YouTube star AnEsonGib in his debut and defeating Robinson with a knockout heard around the world, Paul made quick work of former MMA champion Ben Askren in April with a first-round knockout. The win over Askren was Paul’s first victory over a seasoned professional fighter and he followed it up with an impressive performance against Woodley, arguably his most dangerous opponent to date.

Fighting out of Manchester, England, Fury started boxing at 12 years old. With 12 amateur bouts, he won two regional titles and reached the U.K. national final in 2016. Fury’s first professional fight came in 2018, a win by decision. From there he proceeded to knockout or TKO his next four opponents and put the boxing world on notice. He has fought three times in 2021, including his U.S. debut on Paul’s undercard in August, where the 22-year-old earned his seventh victory against Anthony Taylor. Paul is clearly facing his biggest challenge to date in the undefeated Fury (7-0, 4 KOs), who comes from a renowned family of boxers and has been trained by British star Ricky Hatton.

#PaulFury: One Will Fall is the second live sporting event co-produced by Most Valuable Promotions, a company founded by Paul and Nakisa Bidarian on the premise that content is king, and fighters are the content creators in combat sports. Paul and Bidarian serve as Executive Producers of the #PaulFury event.

Fury already embarrassed himself begging for this circus. Even if Fury knocks out Paul, nobody wins this stupidity.

It's a massive payday for Tommy though and it's not like he was going to make big waves otherwise in boxing.

There'll probably be a rematch also

If anyone should be blamed it's the greedy and shameless promoters and TV execs who've milked boxing dry along with the corrupt alphabet bodies.

They've made space for guys like Jake Paul to come in do the same.

Probably the hardest matchup for Paul. At least previous ones were either vs non-fighters or old fighters and Fury is an active young boxer, although not very experienced. Anyway, Fury gotta win this.

And guess what?

Those parasitic infestations don't care.

Neither do the various sanctioning (?) bodies.

Or even those fans who finance these theatrical pantomimes. They only want entertainment, and they want it now.

In fact, does anyone care about boxing being a serious sport?

Or does sport itself even matter post plandemic?

Or is it all now all about the biggest fastest cash grab in the shortest time?

Perhaps we should ask those head honchos at Pfizer?

I'm sure they'd only be happy to tell us... in about 10 years time.

Hopefully kids growing up today considering how they will make their way in the world will now have a much better understanding of how things really work than previous generations did.

Before too long 'Money' Mayweather might have statues erected in his honour. Unless of course he's caught giving the brush off to some enterprising weirdo with painted nails.

Quick, someone send for the spin doctors/publicists and 'fact checkers'.

There's a reputation to be saved, there might be money to be made...

I hope Tommy Fury wins, but he isn't much of a boxer either. 6 of his 7 opponents have a win percentage of 9% of less. He has one opponent with a winning record, 2-0 Jordan Grant, and Grant's wins up to that point had been an 0-8 opponent and an 0-4 opponent. Tommy hasn't really ever shared a ring with anyone who even kind of knows how to box, other than the 10-102-3 opponent.

Looking past his sh*t resume TF claims he "had 12 amateur fights, went to the nationals and got to the final, won the north regionals twice". He also regularly spars with Hughie Fury and for what it's worth is related to Andy Lee and Tyson Fury.
