WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. will face mandatory challenger and current interim champion Reymart "Assassin" Gaballo of Polomolok, South Cotabato, on December 11.

This was revealed by the 38-year-old Donaire in a news report by TFC News in Los Angeles, California.

"We are finalizing the negotiations... December 11, I think, is what they're saying, but again, all of it has to be finalized and signed," Donaire said in the interview.

Donaire said he is looking forward to his all-Filipino world title fight against the 25-year-old Gaballo, who has often referred to Donaire as his "boxing idol."

Donaire, on the other hand, described Gaballo as a "nice, really respectful kid. I really respect the kid."

"He's going to do his best... but I'm always going to be ready for it," said Donaire, who has captured world titles in four different weight classes.

Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) is now the most decorated active Filipino fighter following the recent official retirement of boxing legend Sen. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao.

Donaire, who hails from Talibon in Bohol, recently scored a four-round victory over Nordine Oubaali of France to win the WBC crown on May 29, 2021 in Carson, California.

Gaballo is undefeated in 24 professional fights with 20 knockouts.

Nonito Donaire-Reymart Gaballo Showtime’s Main Event 12/11 From Carson, California

Four months after he withdrew from a “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event versus John Riel Casimero, Nonito Donaire has been scheduled to fight another fellow Filipino on Showtime.

Boxing Scene has learned that Donaire will make a mandated defense of his WBC bantamweight championship against unbeaten Reymart Gaballo on December 11. Showtime will televise Donaire-Gaballo as the main event of a tripleheader from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) and Gaballo (24-0, 20 KOs) will fight for the WBC 118-pound crown Donaire won by knocking out previously undefeated French southpaw Nordine Oubaali (17-1, 12 KOs) on May 29 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Showtime also aired the Donaire-Oubaali bout.

Donaire, who will turn 39 on November 16, agreed to make a quick turnaround for a title unification fight with Casimero (31-4, 21 KOs), the WBO bantamweight champion, on August 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Donaire pulled out of that fight about a week after agreeing to it because he was dissatisfied with Casimero’s enrollment in the WBC’s “Clean Boxing Program,” which is administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

An agitated Donaire also took exception to comments Casimero’s promoter, Sean Gibbons, directed toward his wife/manager, Rachel Donaire, on social media.

Casimero instead defeated Cuban southpaw Guillermo Rigondeaux (20-2, 13 KOs, 1 NC) by split decision in a dreadfully dull, 12-round main event August 14.

Donaire later gave Casimero career advice after Probellum, which promotes Donaire, won the purse bid for the right to put on Casimero’s obligatory title defense against England’s Paul Butler (33-2, 15 KOs). The Casimero-Butler bout will not be part of Showtime’s tripleheader December 11.

The 25-year-old Gaballo, meanwhile, will challenge Donaire because he won the WBC interim bantamweight championship in controversial fashion over Emmanuel Rodriguez last December 19 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Judge David Sutherland scored their 12-round fight for Puerto Rico’s Rodriguez (19-2, 12 KOs, 1 NC) by a wide distance, 118-110. The other two judges, John McKaie (115-113) and Don Trella (116-112), saw a different fight entirely and scored it for Gaballo, who hasn’t boxed since he edged Rodriguez, a former IBF bantamweight champ.

Rodriguez replaced Oubaali, who battled COVID-19 before eventually facing Donaire, in that “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event 10 months ago. Oubaali was supposed to defend his title against Donaire, but Donaire also contracted COVID-19 and Gaballo substituted for him.

Nonito Donaire, Reymart Gaballo agree to December title fight, sources say

Nonito Donaire and Reymart Gaballo have agreed to a deal for a 118-pound title fight on Dec. 11 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, sources told ESPN.

Undefeated prospect Brandun Lee will meet Juan Heraldez at 140 pounds in another bout on the Showtime tripleheader, sources said.

Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) regained the 118-pound title with a fourth-round KO of Nordine Oubaali in May, nearly nine years after his last 118-pound bout. The future Hall of Famer will be 39 when he faces Gaballo, a fellow native of the Philippines.

In between 118-pound title reigns, Donaire claimed titles at 122 pounds and 126 and suffered a loss to Naoya Inoue in ESPN's 2019 fight of the year. He's currently ranked No. 2 at bantamweight by ESPN.

Gaballo (24-0, 20 KOs), 25, will be stepping up to the biggest challenge of his career. He is coming off a controversial decision win over Emmanuel Rodriguez in December.

Lee (23-0, 21 KOs) was ranked No. 20 on ESPN's list of the 25 best boxers under 25. The 22-year-old Southern Californian has shown immense power in his way up the ranks, with many of those devastating knockouts televised on Showtime's prospect-oriented series, "ShoBox."

Heraldez (16-1, 10 KOs), 31, of Las Vegas, hasn't won a fight since February 2019. He is coming off a third-round TKO loss to Regis Prograis.

Boxing Scene first reported news of the Donaire-Gaballo fight on Dec. 11.

Kudratillo Abdukakhorov takes on Cody Crowley while he waits for Errol Spence Jr.

It’s closing in on three-years since Kudratillo Abdukakhorov earned himself a seat at the welterweight table.

However, despite being the IBF mandatory to Errol Spence Jr. for the same amount of time, he has been unable to secure his title opportunity.

Abdukakhorov, who is rated No. 7 by The Ring at 147-pounds, is keen to get what he long ago earned, but he understands that he is stuck in a holding pattern due to Errol Spence Jr. having two lengthy injury lay-offs and the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the meantime, Abdukakhorov will face unbeaten Cody Crowley at Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California on Saturday.

“It has been frustrating but I am grateful my team are able to keep me active,” Abdukakhorov (18-0, 10 knockouts) told The Ring through his manager Vikram Sivapragasam. “I want to face the best in the division but it has been difficult over the last couple of years.

“I have to give Crowley my full attention because if I do not beat him, I won’t be able to face Spence. I am focused on this fight.”

The 28-year-old Uzbekistan-born fighter snapped a 17-month hiatus when he stopped fringe contender Javier Flores (RTD 8) in March.

“It was difficult not fighting for such a long time,” admitted Abdukakhorov. “I stayed positive and then won my fight. It was great to fight in America again. This time there will be fans which will help.”

“The Punisher” has spent five weeks training under the watchful eye of Manny Robles and strength and fitness guru Matias Erbin in southern California.

“It has been good training with Manny, I have learned new things,” he said. “Matias has got me in great shape and I want to show the boxing fans in California that I am someone to watch.”

He hopes this will be his final fight before facing one of the big names at welterweight.

“I don’t chase fights, I leave that to Vikram and Sampson,” he said. “They know the best way and I will follow what they say but I want to fight the big names in America next year.”

Sivapragasam hopes Abdukakhorov can be a part of the changing of the guard in the star-studded division.

“The division has changed a lot this year,” said Sivapragasam. “We have seen [Manny] Pacquiao and Shawn Porter retire this year and the emergence of young fighters like Vergil Ortiz and Jaron Ennis. I believe Kudratillo can be a big part of the division.”

His promoter Lewkowicz, a veteran famed for his work with former middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, among others, believes bigger fights are just around the corner.

“I am convinced that after this fight it will be time for a great opportunity,” said Lewkowicz. “We want a big name or a championship fight.”

Crowley turned professional in 2014. The 28-year-old Canadian has beaten Stuart McLellan (UD 12), Mian Hussain (UD 10) and, in his most recent fight, Josh Torres (UD 10). Crowley, who fights out of a southpaw stance, is (19-0, 9 KOs).

The Showtime event will be headlined by WBC bantamweight titleholder Nonito Donaire vs. Reymart Gaballo and also feature Brandun Lee vs. Juan Heraldez and Abdukakhorov vs. Crowley. The broadcast will begin at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT.

I don’t know who Gaballo is but we can assume Donaire needs a win after Inoue, his mgt located a decent tomato can with a record & the rest (won’t be important) history. I won’t take anything away from Nonito bc we may allow he’s had his wars. He deserves a lil break & a few extra bucks.
