Natasha Jonas joins BOXXER on long-term promotional deal as she resumes world title pursuit on Sky Sports

"I can't wait to get started in the BOXXER ring and get back challenging for a world title soon with my biggest fights ahead of me on Sky Sports," Natasha Jonas is ready to pursue more rival champions.

BOXXER, the next-generation boxing promotion, have announced the signing of British female boxing pioneer Natasha Jonas to an exclusive long-term promotional agreement

Born and raised in Liverpool, two-time world title challenger Jonas has proudly represented her city and her country in the course of an outstanding career which has seen her repeatedly set new records and raise the bar for British women's boxing.

As a standout amateur she won five national ABA Championships and made history in 2009 by becoming the first female boxer to compete for GB Boxing, where her haul of medals included a 2010 gold medal in the inaugural GB Amateur Boxing Championships in front of her home fans at Liverpool Arena.

The crowning glory of her amateur career came in 2012 when she made history for a second time by becoming the first female British boxer to compete at an Olympic Games, progressing easily to the quarter-finals before dropping a decision to eventual gold medal winner Katie Taylor and sparking a rivalry which persists to this day.

A professional since 2017, Jonas is the former WBA international super-featherweight champion and has become a firm fan-favourite, her ferocious firepower from her southpaw stance earning her a 77% stoppage rate in her victories thanks to explosive power.

She has twice challenged for major world titles, taking undisputed world lightweight champion Taylor the distance earlier this year in an even contest and being denied victory over WBC and IBO champion Terri Harper by way of a controversial draw in 2020.

Jonas joins a BOXXER stable stacked with outstanding female professional talent in a powerful movement for women's boxing that already includes world champion Savannah Marshall, the world's best female boxer Claressa Shields, Team GB Olympian and pro-debutant Caroline Dubois and top prospect Ebonie Jones.

"I'm so happy to have signed with BOXXER and to remain with Sky Sports who are the biggest and best platform for our sport in the UK," said Jonas.

"I can't wait to get started in the BOXXER ring and get back challenging for a world title soon with my biggest fights ahead of me on Sky Sports."

Ben Shalom, BOXXER Founder and CEO, said: "Natasha Jonas has made a significant impact for women's boxing in this country and has achieved such huge things for her sport, her city and her country.

"We are very proud to announce this signing here in Liverpool today and we look forward to working together to make her list of achievements even longer."

Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development on Sky Sports, said: "Natasha Jonas has been one of the trail blazers for women's boxing since her historic appearance at the London 2012 Games - and we're absolutely delighted that she has teamed up with BOXXER's exciting new stable of fighters.

"Tasha has produced some thrilling performances on Sky Sports, coming within touching distance of a world title in epic battles with Terri Harper and Katie Taylor. We hope the hugely popular Liverpudlian can fulfil that ambition with BOXXER.

We're getting ready for an exciting end to the year, with more big fights on the way, live on Sky Sports."

Joe Gallagher, Jonas' trainer, said: "The BOXXER and Sky Sports deal is fantastic for Natasha, it means that she will be really active and get that world title shot again in no time.

"Sky Sports is the home where she had two back-to-back world title fights against Terri Harper and Katie Taylor so her fanbase is there and her profile is sky high with the great 'Driving Force' documentary with Judy Murray.

"I'm delighted for her and she'll go from strength to strength."

I like Natasha and she's a good fighter but realistically she's 38 next year so not sure how long term this will be.
She probably should have took the Taylor rematch and the big purse Hearn claimed was offered. Who knows though Joe G and Hearn don't like each other it seems.

I mean who is she going to fight on Sky now? Not much point fighting subpar opposition at this stage really.

She and Joe wanted to fight subpar opposition so she may get what she wanted. The belts around her weight are pretty much tied up. There’s the tournament to unify at 140, Katie Taylor holds all the belts at 135 and there’s a tournament of sorts going on at 130 too to unify there.

Women's boxing, right now it's best to probably earn with Hearn.

I think it’s understandable to be honest. I can imagine Eddie watching the Joe Gallagher interview where he’s complaining about the way Johnson and Jonas have been dealt with and then he mentions racism because he thinks they should be paid more. And when he got challenged on it he changed his mind and said it was sexism and then tried to laugh it off.

I’m not surprised in the slightest that Hearn has almost fully stopped working with Gallagher’s fighters since then. Whether we like it or not Eddie did more to launch women’s boxing properly over here than anyone else, has almost certainly paid them more than they would have got elsewhere so to brand it as racism and then sexism isn’t good at all.

Yeah - I may well be in the minority but I quite like a well matched women’s fight at a decent level. I enjoyed the Cameron fight, loved the Taylor/Persoon fights and I’ve enjoyed the last few fights of Terri Harper too. Give me a good women’s fight over a complete mismatch men’s fight any day.

I’m not keen on Shannon Courtney’s level of fights and I hate a mismatch like we had with Marshall’s last fight. Agree that Sky need some quality control as so far with Boxxer it’s mainly been mismatches.

If what Edwardo has stated is fact -

First she turns down the Katie Taylor rematch for more money than she got in the first fight.

Then she turns down multiple opponents for a 'stay busy' fight on the Smith/Fowler undercard.

Then Jonas and Joe G try to draft in their own opponent, who Fast Car knocks back as they weren't up to scratch.

Can't really blame Eddie for not wanting to work with Gallagher, sounds like a nightmare.

Gallagher also had his problems with Frank W back in the day. I can’t remember why but I’m pretty sure Frank refused to work with him for a while.

The frustrating thing for me is that he’s not even some of these guys’ manager. He’s their trainer and should be solely focused on that. Leave the negotiation/match making to the people that are paid to do - their managers.

I understand he’s passionate about them but his talking has cost his fighters opportunities.

I think he may be on the precipice of a bit of a dry spell with Beefy and Mundo gone.

Jonas - 38 next and lacking opportunities

Johnson - 36 and looked bang average in what was supposed to be a 'showcase' fight.

Paul Butler - 33 this month and about to be zapped by Casimero.

Morrison - already shown his limitations at domestic level, might be on the the wrong end of his first stoppage loss against Zach Parker this weekend.

Has he still got Hosea Burton?

Might be a slight favourite against Azeez in the vacant British light heavyweight clash

Natasha Jonas joins Sky Sports Boxing as expert analyst ahead of an exciting schedule of shows, live on Sky Sports

"It's an amazing role, with a dream team," Natasha Jonas is newest addition to Sky Sports Boxing team ahead of a red-hot schedule of shows, continuing with The Boxxer Series, live on Sky Sports this Saturday

Natasha Jonas has joined Sky Sports Boxing's team of expert analysts as an exciting new era of events continues with Saturday's BOXXER Series in Liverpool.

The trailblazing fighter is the newest addition to Sky Sports Boxing ahead of a red-hot schedule of shows in Britain and America, which continues with the explosive eight-man tournament, live on Sky Sports from 8pm.

Jonas became the first British female boxer to compete at an Olympic Games, back in London 2012, then launched a thrilling pro career that has featured enthralling battles with Terri Harper and Katie Taylor.

The Liverpudlian will now start a fresh chapter of her career on Sky Sports after signing a promotional deal with BOXXER.

"I'm so happy to announce that I'm part of the Sky Sports Boxing team," said Jonas. "It's an amazing role, with a dream team.

I've always had a good relationship with the team from my amateur to my professional days.

"With massive cards coming up that I can't be on, I'll still be involved with them, live on Sky Sports."

Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development on Sky Sports, said: "Natasha Jonas joins our Sky Sports Boxing team, which is so exciting.

"Natasha is a fantastic analyst, she's so respected in the sport, and she's incredibly knowledgeable.

"She's going to be a fantastic pundit - and she'll also have a role on our commentary team.

"We're absolutely delighted to welcome Natasha Jonas as part of our Sky Sports Boxing team."

Watch The BOXXER Series, a dramatic one-night tournament on Saturday, live on Sky Sports from 8pm.

Just looking at the state of play in the divisions where Jonas can realistically fight - e.g. Super Feather / Light. I see the IBF title hasn't been defended in over 4 years! Really shows the lack of depth in women's boxing. The other champions look (on paper anyway) very decent but it would be nice to see Jonas in the mix and possibly with the IBF title in pocesssion could go bring something to the table.

The last occupant of the IBF title was the lass that Mick Hennessey used to promote, used to go by the name of "pink tyson" - so I would suggest an easy fight to make if she still has the title and unless she has improved a lot an easy nights work for Jonas - doesn't need any tune ups. The other champions including Harper are much closer and probably better if Jonas cashes in a bit if Sky want to take adventage of her "long term" deal.

That's not the proper IBF title Stu.
Maiva Hamadouche was the real IBF Super-Featherweight until Mayer beat her last night.

Katie Taylor is the Lightweight champion.

There is a seperate "Women's IBF title title" which you're referring to, but that's not the real one.
It's the equivalent to what the WBU/WBF etc was for the men.

Fair enough I was just checking boxrecs list of champions and they had that Pink Tyson as the champion.
