Top 10 preformances vs Canelo since Mayweather.

Post by gregregegg »

Heard a few people really rating how plant did. got me thinking howwell did he do compared to others in his position.....
Rank your order of top 10 best efforts vs the current top dog in boxing.

For me it goes.

1) GGG 1
2) Lara
3) GGG 2
4) Jacobs
5) Kov
6) Plant
7) Billy
8) Kahn
9) Cotto
10)Smith (cnt actualy decide which one).

This is my order of who went closet to beating canelo.... (i think top 2 did beat canelo).

Smith dilemma:
Liam was fighting to win, Callum was trying to survive. Make of that what you will. Personally I like the guy trying to win.

1. Golovkin II. The best scalp easily.
2. Jacobs. A proved top fighter.
3. Cotto. A proved top fighter of those period.
4. Kovalev. He was a belt-holder, but his conditions and reputation clearly were declined.
5. Callum Smith. He was arguably the best SMW at that point, but was coming off a lackluster performance.
6. Lara. On paper it should be higher, but it was a very dodgy decision.
7-8. BJS / Plant. Both were belt-holders with thin resumes.
9. Golovkin I. On paper should be higher, but he lost that.
10. Khan. More of a name on a resume, than an actual big win.

Think you read it backwards.

Oh indeed, I misread it as 'top performances of Canelo'.

Okay, now VS Canelo, not BY him.

1. Golovkin I. He won Canelo.
2. Lara. I lean more towards him than Canelo in their bout.
3. Golovkin II. Made a close fight.
4. Jacobs. Close, but here Canelo finally won without any doubts.
5. Cotto. Made it competetive and was able to last until the end.
6. Kovalev. Winning on points before getting KOed.
7. Khan. Winning on points before getting KOed too.
8. Plant. Made it competetive and almost lasted until the end.
9. Saunders. Made it relatively competetive, but not for long.
10. Callum. Simply survived, but better than his brother, because the bro didn't score a lot of success, just a bit more of it, while he was crushed evetually.

Interesting that people I talk to directly rate it as a 7thish best effort effort, yet I have seen considerable posts (social media) suggesting plant had canelo bamboozled and it’s almost rematch worthy…

Plant did well early, everyone but yildrum and fielding have done well early though…

Golovkin twice who beat Canelo twice obviously are #1 and #2. The rest are debatable.

X2
This.
My Smith preference is different but negligible.
