Manny Pacquiao vs Canelo Alvarez

Post by DrDuke »

150-152 lbs catchweight.

12 rounds.

Somewhere in the first half of the 2010s.

Who, how and why?

Manny Pacquiao never weighed above 147 for fights, so difficult to assess how he'd be at Junior Middleweight and Canelo hasn't been 154 since 2016  .... Are you asking Canelo, whose a super middleweight now to drop down to 152 to face prime Pacquiao, or are you pitting the 154 Canelo against prime Pacquiao?

If the latter, it'd of been a great fight. Canelo had beaten Trout, Mosley, Baldomir, Cintron, Cotto, Khan, and lost to Floyd Mayweather--- while Pacquiao defeated Cotto and Mosley, split wins with Bradley, split wins with Marquez, and lost to Mayweather.

Canelo fought older, slower versions of Mosley and Cotto and Baldomir--- when Pacquiao lost to Mayweather the scores were 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110. When Canelo lost to Mayweather the scores were 114-114, 116-112, 117-111 and that was when Mayweather was older.

All in all I would say it would be a very evenly matched contest, but I think Manny edges it out with people wanting to see a rematch.

I see Manny edging it vs a very young Canelo, in a hypo 150-152 catchweight scenario. Still would be a very tough test for Pacquiao. SD or MD win for Pac imo.

It's about Pac and Canelo of the early 2010s, not about current Canelo cutting down.

At that catchweight Pac probably wins. At 154 if it were the Canelo who faced Trout or Lara, he probably stops Pac.

Lets say Canelo and Pacman fought at 154, Canelo would not have the same power he use to have. Pacquiao moves like he is on springs and Canelo may struggle with someone with a style like that. Canelo has amazing head movement, angling, and still could posses some power. Early on I would see Pac-man stealing the rounds and causing trouble for canelo. But Canelo will soon find his rhythm and win a very close split decision 113-115 is the scorecard I believe canelo would win by

Canelo wasn't that polished counter-puncher back then. I can see Pac vastly outworking him, giving him troubles with speed and pace. It would be competetive and probably Pac would edge.
