I had it 98-94 into the 10th and then was generous to Plant with a couple 10 - 10 rounds. Not sure how people could have it much tighter or Plant winning on cards.
It wasn't a close fight, fairly one sided really. Think Canelo needs to move up to Light Heavy again. There isn't anyone lower than that poses much threat and deserves the fight.
Think Beterbiev and Ramirez would be the best next opponents. Jury's out on Bivol for me but I'm sure Eddie will want it. Joe Smith Jr don't think so.

Canelo and Caleb Plant's unexpected conversation in round nine overheard by microphones
"This is a good fight right here," Plant can be heard saying to his opponent during the ninth round, before Canelo responds: "I like it."
"I respect your skills," Plant responded, clearly harbouring much more positive feelings about his opponent than he did in the build up to their showdown – a comment about Alvarez's mother caused a violent brawl in their pre-bout press conference.
"I know," came the response from the Mexican, before the American asserted: "I'm pretty good for 21-0."

Kovalev/Canelo was an odd fight, and I'll just leave it at that. I don't think this one played similar as Plant, at his best, is levels below Kovalev at his worst.

At lot of people gave Plant scores for his pitty-pat stuff that didn't phase Canelo at all while ignoring Canelo's arsenal of body-work and more effective shots and ring-generalship. As I said, it wasn't close, and I'm always surprised at this forum having fights like this close. Reminds me of Ajagba/Sanchez a few weeks ago. That was another fight that wasn't close, but if you saw the cards here, you'd think it was a razor-close fight.peter barlow wrote: ↑07 Nov 2021, 15:34 I had it 98-94 into the 10th and then was generous to Plant with a couple 10 - 10 rounds. I wouldn't give Canelo Joe Smith Jr. It's one of those fights that is completely unnecessary and risky as hell. Joe Smith Jr. is the hardest puncher at LHW. One punch can end any fight, and I don't think Canelo's team would want that. They'd probably go with Bivol before they pick anyone else. Bivol doesn't have much power, and Canelo's been eating up mover's lately.

Entertaining fight.
Canelo looked fantastic, he did everything right.
His left hook was superb both upstairs and downstairs the entire fight, his speed chin stamina and strength were among his strongest attributes.
This was a good performance from Canelo, it was literally faultless, worse case he lost two rounds on the cards if that, Plant stayed in it physically as he appeared to be able to sustain the pressure put upon him.
From time to time early in the fight Plants jab scored him points and proved useful, problem was he didn't have much else to back it up with and had to rely on his legs to get him out of the danger zone.
Occasionally Plant would score with a shot but he never forced the action on Canelo and spent almost all of the fight in defence or on the back foot.
Canelo was never rattled shaken or gave off the appearance there was a swing in momentum about to occur, he was in control from start to finish.
The P4P No 1 King has spoken with a very impressive showing and maintains his good standing at the top as far as I'm concerned, he's worthy of his position.
