Canelo is the just the face needed to truly light up the WBC Bridgerweight Regular Interim Diamond belt.

I think there's an outside chance he could pull a Roy Jones, though Jones was a naturally bigger man, but he needs a weak belt holder, as for once he will be in with a much much bigger puncher.candyslim wrote: ↑09 Nov 2021, 05:07Whatever weight Canelo fights at, Light-heavy or even Cruiser, I would urge him not to bulk up. Maybe if cruiserweight was 190 again like when Roy Jones jumped to heavyweight (193) but to be 200+ is too much of a stretch. He'd get eaten alive by Joey Dawejko or something.
No, Canelo should just pursue 175 and go no farther than that. He's already did it once, so he can do it again.
He could probably beat a heavyweight but he'd need to choose carefully. I'd suggest someone slow of hand, foot and preferably thought. Someone who trades on toughness, durability, and stamina (they have to have a few things going for them or they are not going to be good enough to make beating them worthwhile) I might suggest he start with a Chazz Witherspoon and see how he fares with him.
I think we can forget Usyk, Fury, Joshua, all of those are too good.
Could he beat a Wilder? Well, there's an interesting one, Wilder has terrible technique, but he'd have so many physical advantages, height, weight, reach, power.

Sinko de Mayo?
Re: Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed
Some of the 175 Light Heavyweights are big Light Heavyweights if you know what I mean.
Bivol is possible to beat because Canelo could get by on a strength skill experience combo.
Beterbiev would be more of a strength issue.

Way too dangerous. Wilder's punching power would make him a non-starter as a potential opponent for anyone of Canelo's siza.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑09 Nov 2021, 10:37Wilder no way. Clenelo Alvarez can beat the NSAC, the WBC, WBA, IBF, the Mickey Mouse Club, WADA, VADA and most global boxng commissions/promoters/networks.
The PED poster boy of the sport can even win (or occasionally draw) the fights he loses.
The Mexican beef lover is a living testament to the eternal power of mammon.
All must bow before the mighty money machine.
Just don't mention Golovkin, Beterbiev, or Benavidez.
The mighty C doesn't enjoy the use of that kind of language in his beefed up royal presence.
Henry the Eight had nothing on this beef lover.

Would losing to Briedis lower Canelo's stock? Not for me it wouldn't anyway.

what's up with gongora's ibo belt? doesn't beef boi want his strap for real 'undisputed' status?
ibo not really worse than the other organisations, just little less known.
would be a nice little inbetween fight before steping up in an attempt to get the 175 belts.
which could be the end of canelo's unbelievable success story.
that's the reason why i don't think they will give it a go.
he and his camp are 100 percent professional to the core, which includes knowing whom you go after and whom you better leave alone.
i'd be very surprised if canelo takes on bivol or beterbiev. same time that's whom i wanna see him fight the most. and smith jr.
Re: Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed
Nor for me. Even if he lost badly I'd respect him for taking on not just a cruiserweight but an elite cruiserweight.H8Usernames wrote: ↑10 Nov 2021, 12:53 Would losing to Briedis lower Canelo's stock? Not for me it wouldn't anyway.
That's very unlikely to happen though. I mean no disrespect but Canelo selects his targets very carefully and will be smart enough to steer clear of Briedis.

How about Briedis vs your darling what his name Dillian Whyte? Not an easy fight to pick a winner for.candyslim wrote: ↑11 Nov 2021, 07:12Nor for me. Re: Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed
I would give Briedis a respectable chance. We all know Dillian can be caught, hurt, dropped, even knocked out, and we learned from the Charr fight that Briedis can really crack. If he were to catch Dillian right he could go.
On balance though I'd make Whyte a strong favourite because he is way bigger, more powerful, and boxes well enough that Briedis would be well advised not to mix it up with him or take liberties.

Too hard a jab. Reach advantage.
Given whyte brings a concentrated a game effort.
Briedis would think twice to step in if whyte just deliveres a 1-2, sitting down a tad on the 2.
But who really knows, could easily turn into a brawl.
Briedis is no pushover. If he lands an uppercut whyte steps into... well, that's the big man's game.
If the skills are there, frikkin everything can happen at any given moment.

No way that a broken down, ring rusty 38 year old Ward is beating Canelo.
Peak Ward against Canelo is one of my dream hypotheticals, but not an ageing and comebacking Ward.

Calzaghe. Too clever, too fast and too active/busy.

This thread is kind of funny!
People are being asked their opinions about the fighters that Canelo is capable of beating.
Instead, many of the responses are from posters commenting on whom they feel can beat Canelo!
I guess if you’re asking for specific feedback from the BoxRec community, you’ll have to employ reverse psychology to obtain it, by creating topics about the polar opposite!

Makabu is ranked #2 at cruiserweight and his frame is comparable to Kovalev, who Canelo stopped.
I'd love to see Makabu vs Canelo.

Ward quit because of recurring injuries, he'd get battered if he came out of retirement now.
I'd have favoured him in his prime no doubt, boring to watch, but a very special fighter.
